Parton and Hadron Correlations in Jets

Correlation between shower partons is first studied in high pTp_T jets. Then in the framework of parton recombination the correlation between pions in heavy-ion collisions is investigated. Since thermal partons play very different roles in central and peripheral collisions, it is found that the correlation functions of the produced hadrons behave very differently at different centralities, especially at intermediate pTp_T. The correlation function that can best exhibit the distinctive features is suggested. There is not a great deal of overlap between what we can calculate and what has been measured. Nevertheless, some aspects of our results compare favorably with experimental data.Comment: 28 pages in Latex + 13 figures. A Critical Examination to the Unitarized ππ\pi\pi Scattering Chiral Amplitudes

We discuss the Pad\'e approximation to the ππ\pi\pi scattering amplitudes in 1--loop chiral perturbation theory. The approximation restores unitarity and can reproduce the correct resonance poles, but the approximation violates crossing symmetry and produce spurious poles on the complex ss plane and therefore plagues its predictions on physical quantities at quantitative level. However we find that one virtual state in the IJ=20 channel may have physical relevance.Comment: 13 pages + 4 eps figures submit to Commun. Theor. Phy

Identification of Soat1 as a Quantitative Trait Locus Gene on Mouse Chromosome 1 Contributing to Hyperlipidemia

We previously identified two closely linked quantitative trait loci (QTL) on distal chromosome 1 contributing to major variations in plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels in an intercross derived from C57BL/6 (B6) and C3H/HeJ (C3H) apolipoprotein E-deficient (apoE−/−) mice. Soat1, encoding sterol o-acyltransferase 1, is a functional candidate gene located underneath the proximal linkage peak. We sequenced the coding region of Soat1 and identified four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) between B6 and C3H mice. Two of the SNPs resulted in amino-acid substitutions (Ile147Val and His205Tyr). Functional assay revealed an increased enzyme activity of Soat1 in peritoneal macrophages of C3H mice relative to those of B6 mice despite comparable protein expression levels. Allelic variants of Soat1 were associated with variations in plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels in an intercross between B6.apoE−/− and C3H.apoE−/− mice. Inheritance of the C3H allele resulted in significantly higher plasma lipid levels than inheritance of the B6 allele. Soat1 variants were also significantly linked to major variations in plasma esterified cholesterol levels but not with free cholesterol levels. Trangenic expression of C3H Soat1 in B6.apoE−/− mice resulted in elevations of plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels. These results indicate that Soat1 is a QTL gene contributing to hyperlipidemia

Robust l2-l∞ Filtering for Discrete-Time Delay Systems

    Get PDF
The problem of robust l2-l∞ filtering for discrete-time system with interval time-varying delay and uncertainty is investigated, where the time delay and uncertainty considered are varying in a given interval and norm-bounded, respectively. The filtering problem based on the l2-l∞ performance is to design a filter such that the filtering error system is asymptotically stable with minimizing the peak value of the estimation error for all possible bounded energy disturbances. Firstly, sufficient l2-l∞ performance analysis condition is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for discrete-time delay systems by utilizing reciprocally convex approach. Then a less conservative result is obtained by introducing some variables to decouple the Lyapunov matrices and the filtering error system matrices. Moreover, the robust l2-l∞ filter is designed for systems with time-varying delay and uncertainty. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the filter design method
