    Baryon spectrum in a finite-temperature AdS/QCD model

    We propose a model for baryons at finite temperature using AdS/QCD correspondence. In this model, we modify the AdS spacetime into the AdS-Schwarzchild spacetime and consider a couple of bulk spinors in this background. Solving this model, we get an eigenvalue equation for the baryon masses. We then investigate the effects of temperature on the baryon masses numerically, and find an interesting temperature dependence. Our result is consistent with the results from lattice QCD and other phenomenological models.Comment: 6 Latex pages, 2 figures. Final version to appear in PR

    Towards Constraining Parity-Violations in Gravity with Satellite Gradiometry

    Parity violation in gravity, if existed, could have important implications, and it is meaningful to search and test the possible observational effects. Chern-Simons modified gravity serves as a natural model for gravitational parity-violations. Especially, considering extensions to Einstein-Hilbert action up to second order curvature terms, it is known that theories of gravitational parity-violation will reduce to the dynamical Chern-Simons gravity. In this letter, we outline the theoretical principles of testing the dynamical Chern-Simons gravity with orbiting gravity gradiometers, which could be naturally incorporated into future satellite gravity missions. The secular gravity gradient signals, due to the Mashhoon-Theiss (anomaly) effect, in dynamical Chern-Simons gravity are worked out, which can improve the constraint of the corresponding Chern-Simons length scale ξcs14\xi^{\frac{1}{4}}_{cs} obtained from such measurement scheme. For orbiting superconducting gradiometers or gradiometers with optical readout, a bound ξcs14≤106 km\xi^{\frac{1}{4}}_{cs}\leq 10^6 \ km (or even better) could in principle be obtained, which will be at least 2 orders of magnitude stronger than the current one based on the observations from the GP-B mission and the LAGEOS I, II satellites.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1606.0818

Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki had been described or misidentified as several different species in China based on measurement characteristics. In this paper, the synonyms of C. formosanus from China are listed, and it is proposed that C. guizhouensis is a new junior synonym of C. formosanus

    Development and Isolation of 17 polymorphic Microsatellite Loci in Coptoterms formosanus (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

    Seventeen polymorphic microsatellite DNA loci for Copototermes formosanus were isolated and characterized. Polymorphism of these loci was assessed in a sample of 32 unrelated C. formosanus individuals. An average of 4.6 alleles per locus (3-8 alleles) was detected. Observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.2500 to 1.0000 and from 0.5591 to 0.8562, respectively. Six loci were found to have deviated from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the sampled population after Bonferroni correction. No significant linkage disequilibrium was detected. These markers will be useful in population genetics, phylogenies and other relevant studies of C. formosanus

    Heterogeneous Multi-task Learning for Human Pose Estimation with Deep Convolutional Neural Network

    We propose an heterogeneous multi-task learning framework for human pose estimation from monocular image with deep convolutional neural network. In particular, we simultaneously learn a pose-joint regressor and a sliding-window body-part detector in a deep network architecture. We show that including the body-part detection task helps to regularize the network, directing it to converge to a good solution. We report competitive and state-of-art results on several data sets. We also empirically show that the learned neurons in the middle layer of our network are tuned to localized body parts
