    Investigation of split injection in a single cylinder optical diesel engine

However, in order to meet future emissions legislations, Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and particulate matters’ (PM) emissions will need to be reduced simultaneously. Nowadays researchers are focused on different combustion modes which can have a great potential for both low soot and low NOx. In order to achieve this, different injection strategies have been investigated. This study investigates the effects of split injection strategies with high levels of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) on combustion performance and emissions in a single cylinder direct injection optical diesel engine. The investigation is focused on the effects of injection timing of split injection strategies. A Ricardo Hydra single cylinder optical engine was used in which conventional experimental methods like cylinder pressure data, heat release analysis and exhaust emissions analysis were applied. Optical techniques like direct spray and combustion visualization were applied by means of a high speed imaging system with a copper vapor laser illumination system and a high-speed two-color system was applied to obtain in-cylinder diesel combustion temperature and soot measurements distributions

    The Maximum Optical Depth Towards Bulge Stars From Axisymmetric Models of the Milky Way

    It has been known that recent microlensing results towards the bulge imply mass densities that are surprisingly high given dynamical constraints on the Milky Way mass distribution. We derive the maximum optical depth towards the bulge that may be generated by axisymmetric structures in the Milky Way, and show that observations are close to surpassing these limits. This result argues in favor of a bar as a source of significantly enhanced microlensing.     A Generalization of Mathieu Subspaces to Modules of Associative Algebras

    We first propose a generalization of the notion of Mathieu subspaces of associative algebras A\mathcal A, which was introduced recently in [Z4] and [Z6], to A\mathcal A-modules M\mathcal M. The newly introduced notion in a certain sense also generalizes the notion of submodules. Related with this new notion, we also introduce the sets σ(N)\sigma(N) and τ(N)\tau(N) of stable elements and quasi-stable elements, respectively, for all RR-subspaces NN of A\mathcal A-modules M\mathcal M, where RR is the base ring of A\mathcal A. We then prove some general properties of the sets σ(N)\sigma(N) and τ(N)\tau(N). Furthermore, examples from certain modules of the quasi-stable algebras [Z6], matrix algebras over fields and polynomial algebras are also studied.Comment: A new case has been added; some mistakes and misprints have been corrected.     An ecological approach to problems of Dark Energy, Dark Matter, MOND and Neutrinos

    Modern astronomical data on galaxy and cosmological scales have revealed powerfully the existence of certain dark sectors of fundamental physics, i.e., existence of particles and fields outside the standard models and inaccessible by current experiments. Various approaches are taken to modify/extend the standard models. Generic theories introduce multiple de-coupled fields A, B, C, each responsible for the effects of DM (cold supersymmetric particles), DE (Dark Energy) effect, and MG (Modified Gravity) effect respectively. Some theories use adopt vanilla combinations like AB, BC, or CA, and assume A, B, C belong to decoupled sectors of physics. MOND-like MG and Cold DM are often taken as opposite frameworks, e.g. in the debate around the Bullet Cluster. Here we argue that these ad hoc divisions of sectors miss important clues from the data. The data actually suggest that the physics of all dark sectors is likely linked together by a self-interacting oscillating field, which governs a chameleon-like dark fluid, appearing as DM, DE and MG in different settings. It is timely to consider an interdisciplinary approach across all semantic boundaries of dark sectors, treating the dark stress as one identity, hence accounts for several "coincidences" naturally.Comment: 12p, Proceedings to the 6-th Int.     Using transfer ratio to evaluate EMC design of adjustable speed drive systems

    This paper proposes a way to evaluate the conducted electromagnetic compatibility performance of variable speed drive systems. It is considered that the measured noise level is determined by two factors, the level of the noise source and the conversion efficiency of the propagation path from the source to the measurement equipments. They are corresponding to the two roles played by the converter. On the one hand, a converter provides the noise source and generates the noise current and voltage on the motor side with the cable and the motor. On the other hand, it acts as the propagation path with the DC bus and the rectifier to spread the noise generated on the motor side to the line side. The transfer ratio is defined as the ratio between the CM current on the motor side and the CM current on the line side. It can be used to evaluate the EMC design of a converter because it is independent of the cable and the motor. A simplified model is used to explain this characteristic. It can be measured when the converter is powered off. Verification is carried out by experimental results obtained from a 12-kVA laboratory system.\u
