Seam-guided local alignment and stitching for large parallax images
Seam-cutting methods have been proven effective in the composition step of
image stitching, especially for images with parallax. However, the
effectiveness of seam-cutting usually depends on that images can be roughly
aligned such that there exists a local region where a plausible seam can be
found. For images with large parallax, current alignment methods often fall
short of expectations. In this paper, we propose a local alignment and
stitching method guided by seam quality evaluation. First, we use existing
image alignment and seam-cutting methods to calculate an initial seam and
evaluate the quality of pixels along the seam. Then, for pixels with low
qualities, we separate their enclosing patches in the aligned images and
locally align them by extracting modified dense correspondences via SIFT flow.
Finally, we composite the aligned patches via seam-cutting and merge them into
the original aligned result to generate the final mosaic. Experiments show that
compared with the state-of-the-art seam-cutting methods, our result is more
plausible and with fewer artifacts. The code will be available at

Diagnosis of covert coarctation of the aorta in adolescents
ObjectivesBy reviewing the diagnostic process for adolescents with coarctation of the aorta (CoA) in our institution, we analyzed the reasons for delayed diagnosis of CoA. We also proposed a diagnostic protocol to improve the detection rate of CoA.MethodsIn this retrospective study, we included 48 patients aged 12–18 years who were diagnosed with CoA in our hospital from January 2000 to November 2022. Clinical data from involved cases in local hospitals and our institution were collected.ResultsAll patients had blood pressure (BP) measurements in upper and lower extremities in our institution. They all had hypertension, 29 (60.4%) of whom had known histories of the same. BP in the upper limbs of 47 (97.9%) patients was ≥20 mmHg higher than that in the lower limbs, and BP in the upper limb of 1 (2.1%) patient was greater than 0 and less than 20 mmHg than that in the lower limb. Echocardiography (ECHO) was performed in all patients, computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in 44 patients (91.7%). There were 38 (79.2%) patients who visited local hospitals. Among them, a total of 20 (52.6%) patients had their right upper extremity BP measured, 18 (47.4%) only had their left upper extremity BP measured, and 16 (42.1%) had their lower extremity BP measured. ECHO was performed in 27 (56.2%) patients and CT/MRI was performed in 18 (37.5%) patients. The detection rate for CT/MRI was 100%, and those of ECHO were 72.9% and 18.5% at our institution and a local hospital, respectively. Forty-eight (100%) and 23 (60.5%) patients were detected in our institution and local hospitals (P < 0.0001).ConclusionWe recommend measuring BP in the bilateral upper extremities. Measurement of BP in the lower extremities is recommended if hypertension is diagnosed. MRI/CT is recommended when BP in the upper extremity is greater than that in the lower extremity
Enhanced Îł-Glutamyltranspeptidase Imaging That Unravels the Glioma Recurrence in Post-radio/Chemotherapy Mixtures for Precise Pathology via Enzyme-Triggered Fluorescent Probe
Accurate pathological diagnosis of gliomas recurrence is crucial for the optimal management and prognosis prediction. The study here unravels that our newly developed Îł-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) fluorescence probe (Figure 1A) imaging in twenty recurrent glioma tissues selectively recognizes the most malignant portion from treatment responsive tissues induced by radio/chemo-therapy (Figure 1B). The overexpression of GGT in recurrent gliomas and low level in radiation necrosis were validated by western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry. Furthermore, the ki-67 index evaluation demonstrated the significant increase of malignancy, aided by the GGT-responsive fluorescent probe to screen out the right specimen through fast enhanced imaging of enzyme activity. Importantly, our GGT-targeting probe can be used for accurate determination of pathologic evaluation of tumor malignancy, and eventually for guiding the following management in patients with recurrent gliomas
Ruddlesden-Popper chalcogenides push the limit of mechanical stiffness and glass-like thermal conductivity in crystals
Insulating materials featuring ultralow thermal conductivity for diverse
applications also require robust mechanical properties. Conventional thinking,
however, which correlates strong bonding with high atomic-vibration-mediated
heat conduction, led to diverse weakly bonded materials that feature ultralow
thermal conductivity and low elastic moduli. One must, therefore, search for
strongly-bonded materials in which heat transport is impeded by other means.
Here, we report intrinsic, glass-like, ultralow thermal conductivity and
ultrahigh elastic-modulus/thermal-conductivity ratio in single-crystalline,
BaZrS3-derived, Ruddlesden-Popper phases Ban+1ZrnS3n+1, n = 2, 3. Their key
features are strong anharmonicity and intra-unit-cell rock-salt blocks. The
latter produce strongly bonded intrinsic superlattices, impeding heat
conduction by broadband reduction of phonon velocities and mean free paths and
concomitant strong phonon localization. The present study initiates a paradigm
of "mechanically stiff phonon glasses"
Differences in soil physicochemical properties and rhizosphere microbial communities of flue-cured tobacco at different transplantation stages and locations
Rhizosphere microbiota play an important role in regulating soil physical and chemical properties and improving crop production performance. This study analyzed the relationship between the diversity of rhizosphere microbiota and the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco at different transplant times (D30 group, D60 group and D90 group) and in different regions [Linxiang Boshang (BS) and Linxiang ZhangDuo (ZD)] by high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that there were significant differences in the physicochemical properties and rhizosphere microbiota of flue-cured tobacco rhizosphere soil at different transplanting times, and that the relative abundance of Bacillus in the rhizosphere microbiota of the D60 group was significantly increased. RDA and Pearson correlation analysis showed that Bacillus, Streptomyces and Sphingomonas were significantly correlated with soil physical and chemical properties. PIGRUSt2 function prediction results showed that compared with the D30 group, the D60 group had significantly increased metabolic pathways such as the superpathway of pyrimidine deoxyribonucleoside salvage, allantoin degradation to glyoxylate III and pyrimidine deoxyribonucleotides de novo biosynthesis III metabolic pathways. The D90 group had significantly increased metabolic pathways such as ubiquitol-8 biosynthesis (prokaryotic), ubiquitol-7 biosynthesis (prokaryotic) and ubiquitol-10 biosynthesis (prokaryotic) compared with the D60 group. In addition, the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco in the BS region were significantly higher than those in the ZD region, and the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Bacillus in the rhizosphere microbiota of flue-cured tobacco in the BS region at the D60 transplant stage was significantly higher than that in the ZD region. In addition, the results of the hierarchical sample metabolic pathway abundance map showed that the PWY-6572 metabolic pathway was mainly realized by Paenibacillus, and that the relative abundance of flue-cured tobacco rhizosphere microbiota (Paenibacillus) participating in PWY-6572 in the D60 transplant period in the BS region was significantly higher than that in the ZD region. In conclusion, different transplanting periods of flue-cured tobacco have important effects on soil physical and chemical properties and rhizosphere microbial communities. There were significant differences in the rhizosphere microbiota and function of flue-cured tobacco in different regions, which may affect the performance and quality of this type of tobacco
The Sihailongwan Maar Lake, northeastern China as a candidate Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene Series
Sihailongwan Maar Lake, located in Northeast China, is a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) for demarcation of the Anthropocene. The lake’s varved sediments are formed by alternating allogenic atmospheric inputs and authigenic lake processes and store a record of environmental and human impacts at a continental-global scale. Varve counting and radiometric dating provided a precise annual-resolution sediment chronology for the site. Time series records of radioactive (239,240Pu, 129I and soot 14C), chemical (spheroidal carbonaceous particles, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, soot, heavy metals, δ13C, etc), physical (magnetic susceptibility and grayscale) and biological (environmental DNA) indicators all show rapid changes in the mid-20th century, coincident with clear lithological changes of the sediments. Statistical analyses of these proxies show a tipping point in 1954 CE. 239,240Pu activities follow a typical unimodal globally-distributed profile, and are proposed as the primary marker for the Anthropocene. A rapid increase in 239,240Pu activities at 88 mm depth in core SHLW21-Fr-13 (1953 CE) is synchronous with rapid changes of other anthropogenic proxies and the Great Acceleration, marking the onset of the Anthropocene. The results indicate that Sihailongwan Maar Lake is an ideal site for the Anthropocene GSSP
