Evolution of Surface Deformations of Weakly-Bound Nuclei in the Continuum

We study weakly-bound deformed nuclei based on the coordinate-space Skyrme Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approach, in which a large box is employed for treating the continuum and surface diffuseness. Approaching the limit of core-halo deformation decoupling, calculations found an exotic "egg"-like structure consisting of a spherical core plus a prolate halo in 38^{38}Ne, in which the resonant continuum plays an essential role. Generally the halo probability and the decoupling effect in heavy nuclei are reduced compared to light nuclei, due to denser level densities around Fermi surfaces. However, deformed halos in medium-mass nuclei are possible with sparse levels of negative parity, for example, in 110^{110}Ge. The surface deformations of pairing density distributions are also influenced by the decoupling effect and are sensitive to the effective pairing Hamiltonian.Comment: 5 pages and 5 figure

Quantum Doubles from a Class of Noncocommutative Weak Hopf Algebras

    Get PDF
The concept of biperfect (noncocommutative) weak Hopf algebras is introduced and their properties are discussed. A new type of quasi-bicrossed products are constructed by means of weak Hopf skew-pairs of the weak Hopf algebras which are generalizations of the Hopf pairs introduced by Takeuchi. As a special case, the quantum double of a finite dimensional biperfect (noncocommutative) weak Hopf algebra is built. Examples of quantum doubles from a Clifford monoid as well as a noncommutative and noncocommutative weak Hopf algebra are given, generalizing quantum doubles from a group and a noncommutative and noncocommutative Hopf algebra, respectively. Moreover, some characterisations of quantum doubles of finite dimensional biperfect weak Hopf algebras are obtained.Comment: LaTex 18 pages, to appear in J. Math. Phys. Punch-through jets in A+AA+A collisions at RHIC/LHC

High pTp_T single and dihadron production is studied within a NLO pQCD parton model with jet quenching in high energy A+AA+A collisions at the RHIC/LHC energy. A simultaneous χ2\chi^2-fit to both single and dihadron spectra can be achieved within a narrow range of energy loss parameter. Punch-through jets are found to result in the dihadron suppression factor slightly more sensitive to medium than the single hadron suppression factor at RHIC. Such jets at LHC are found to dominate high pTp_T dihadron production and the resulting dihadron spectra are more sensitive to the initial parton distribution functions than the single hadron spectra.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, proceedings for the 20th international conference on ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions (QM2008), Jaipur, India, February 4-10, 200

SU(4) Theory for Spin Systems with Orbital Degeneracy

The isotropic limit of spin systems with orbital degeneracy is shown to have global SU(4) symmetry. On many 2D lattices, the ground state does not posses long range order, which may explain the observed spin liquid properties of LiNiO2LiNiO_2. In the SU(4) Neel ordered state, spin-spin correlations can be antiferromagneitc between two neighboring sites with parallel magnetic moments.Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures. submitted to PR

Mott scattering at the interface between a metal and a topological insulator

We compute the spin-active scattering matrix and the local spectrum at the interface between a metal and a three-dimensional topological band insulator. We show that there exists a critical incident angle at which complete (100%) spin flip reflection occurs and the spin rotation angle jumps by π\pi. We discuss the origin of this phenomena, and systematically study the dependence of spin-flip and spin-conserving scattering amplitudes on the interface transparency and metal Fermi surface parameters. The interface spectrum contains a well-defined Dirac cone in the tunneling limit, and smoothly evolves into a continuum of metal induced gap states for good contacts. We also investigate the complex band structure of Bi2_2Se3_3.Comment: published versio
