    ShenZhen transportation system (SZTS): a novel big data benchmark suite

    Data analytics is at the core of the supply chain for both products and services in modern economies and societies. Big data workloads, however, are placing unprecedented demands on computing technologies, calling for a deep understanding and characterization of these emerging workloads. In this paper, we propose ShenZhen Transportation System (SZTS), a novel big data Hadoop benchmark suite comprised of real-life transportation analysis applications with real-life input data sets from Shenzhen in China. SZTS uniquely focuses on a specific and real-life application domain whereas other existing Hadoop benchmark suites, such as HiBench and CloudRank-D, consist of generic algorithms with synthetic inputs. We perform a cross-layer workload characterization at the microarchitecture level, the operating system (OS) level, and the job level, revealing unique characteristics of SZTS compared to existing Hadoop benchmarks as well as general-purpose multi-core PARSEC benchmarks. We also study the sensitivity of workload behavior with respect to input data size, and we propose a methodology for identifying representative input data sets

    Combination of microporous hollow carbon spheres and nafion for the individual metal-free stripping detectionof Pb2+ and Cd2+

    Here, the combination of Nafion with microporous hollow carbon spheres (MHCS) is first proposed to fabricate a disposable metal-free electrode for heavy metal stripping sensing. The MHCS-Nafion composite film electrode is prepared by drop-casting a mixture of MHCS and Nafion onto the lab-made screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE*). Results demonstrate that the interfusion of MHCS into Nafion offers enhanced performance for the electro-enrichment and stripping of lead and cadmium over the only Nafion film: 1) abundant MHCS immobilized on the electrode surface serve as effective nucleation sites for metal ion reduction; 2) the mixing of MHCS into Nafion enlarges the active surface of negative-charged Nafion for the electrostatic adsorption of metal cations. The proposed MHCS-Nafion/SPCE* provides linear responses for Pb2+ and Cd2+ in the range of 2 - 200 mu g/L, with a detection limit of 1.37 and 1.63 mu g/L, respectively. Practical applications of the sensor in water sample detection with good accuracy have also been confirmed

    Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers and one of themost frequent causes of cancer deaths worldwide. Early detection andaccurate preoperative staging of gastric cancer is essential for planning optimal therapy such as endoscopic mucosal resection or gastric resection and offers the best prognosis. With advanced technology in diagnostic instruments and the mass screening, early gastric cancer has been detected easier. One-point cancer of gastric is a special type of early gastric cancer[1]. Diagnosis of one-point cancer of gastric is important for both the immediate treatment and the prognosis. There is still no consensus on the operation extent and postoperative treatment for patients with one-point cancer of gastric. Learned from previous reports[2-5], we know that existed in the superfi cial layer of the gastric mucosa and the superfi cial ulcer is one of the important characteristics of one point cancer of gastric. Herein, we report a case of one point cancer of gastric with the appearance of a deep infi ltrating ulcer. To the best of our knowledge, no such type of one point cancer of gastric has been reported

    Structure of a Complete Integrin Ectodomain in a Physiologic Resting State and Activation and Deactivation by Applied Forces

    The complete ectodomain of integrin αIIbβ3 reveals a bent, closed, low-affinity conformation, the β knee, and a mechanism for linking cytoskeleton attachment to high affinity for ligand. Ca and Mg ions in the recognition site, including the synergistic metal ion binding site (SyMBS), are loaded prior to ligand binding. Electrophilicity of the ligand-binding Mg ion is increased in the open conformation. The β3 knee passes between the β3-PSI and αIIb-knob to bury the lower β leg in a cleft, from which it is released for extension. Different integrin molecules in crystals and EM reveal breathing that appears on pathway to extension. Tensile force applied to the extended ligand-receptor complex stabilizes the closed, low-affinity conformation. By contrast, an additional lateral force applied to the β subunit to mimic attachment to moving actin filaments stabilizes the open, high-affinity conformation. This mechanism propagates allostery over long distances and couples cytoskeleton attachment of integrins to their high-affinity state. © 2008 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

    Using a pig ear skin model, it is demonstrated that silica vesicles show higher skin safety compared to dense silica nanoparticles with similar sizes. A hydrophobic UV blocker is efficiently dispersed in silica vesicles in an amorphous state, leading to ultrahigh UV-attenuating efficiency and a sun protection factor of 100 in a sunscreen formulation

    Comparative antiseizure medications of adjunctive treatment for children with drug-resistant focal-onset seizures: A systematic review and network meta-analysis

    Purpose: In this study, we intended to compare and rank the efficacy and acceptability of antiseizure medications (ASMs) for adjunctive treatment of children with drug-resistant focal-onset seizures.Method: We conducted a computerized search of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Google Scholar to identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published before 31 May 2022. We included studies evaluating the efficacy and tolerability of antiseizure medications for children with drug-resistant focal-onset seizures. The efficacy and safety were reported in terms of responder and dropout rate along with serious adverse events, the outcomes were ranked with the surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA).Results: A total of 14 studies (16 trials) with 2,464 patients were included, involving 10 active antiseizure medications. For the primary endpoint of at least 50% reduction in focal-onset seizures, the surface under the cumulative ranking curve ranking suggested that lamotrigine and levetiracetam were more effective as compared with other antiseizure medications; moreover, levetiracetam had the highest probability of rank first for achieving seizure freedom. Concerning tolerability, oxcarbazepine and eslicarbazepine acetate were associated with higher dropout rates relative to other antiseizure medications and placebo, and topiramate was associated with higher occurrence of side effects. No significant differences were found between active antiseizure medications concerning dropout for side effects.Conclusion: According to the surface under the cumulative ranking curve ranking, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, and oxcarbazepine were more efficacious than other active antiseizure medications in terms of responder rate. Concerning tolerability, oxcarbazepine was more likely to lead to dropout and topiramate was associated with higher occurrence of side effects

    Study on rooting characteristics and occurrence model of adventitious roots in cuttage of Aronia melanocarpa

    Abstract [Objective] The aim of the study is to investigate the origin and development of the adventitious roots in cuttage of Aronia melanocarpa as well as to understand its mechanism. [Methods] Taking the semi-lignified cuttings of ‘Fukangyuan No.1’ as materials, the changes in internal structure and external morphology of the cuttings during the formation of adventitious roots were observed by hydroponic cutting technology and paraffin section method. [Results] The results showed that the rooting period of IBAtreated cuttings was 30-40 d under hydroponic conditions. During the cutting process, the adventitious roots were appeared at the lenticel at 10-15 d and at at the cutting incision 15-20 d, and the rooting speed, number, and root length were better than the control. The number of adventitious roots in the cuttings was the largest and the rooting was fast. Exogenous induction significantly improved rooting rate and quality. There was no latent root primordium in the cuttings before cutting, which was formed after cutting. The adventitious roots were formed into callus rooting type and internal meristem rooting type. The adventitious roots produced in the bark were originated from vascular cambium, phloem parenchyma cells, or cortex, while the adventitious roots produced by the callus were specialized by the parenchymal cells. Leaf gaps or branch gaps were the main areas for the formation of adventitious root primordia and the formation of callus. [Conclusion] The rooting of cuttings belongs to the multi-site mode and the induced rooting type

    Plastome Sequences Help to Resolve Deep-Level Relationships of Populus in the Family Salicaceae

    Populus, a core genus of Salicaceae, plays a significant ecological role as a source of pioneer species in boreal forests. However, interspecific hybridization and high levels of morphological variation among poplars have resulted in great difficulty in classifying species for systematic and comparative evolutionary studies. Here, we present phylogenetic analyses of 24 newly sequenced Populus plastomes and 36 plastomes from GenBank, which represent seven genera of Salicaceae, in combination with a matrix of eighteen morphological characters of 40 Populus taxa to reconstruct highly supported relationships of genus Populus. Relationships among the 60 taxa of Salicaceae strongly supported two monophyletic genera: Populus and Salix. Chosenia was nested within the genus Salix, and five clades within Populus were divided. Clade I included the three taxa P. euphratica, P. pruinosa, and P. ilicifolia. Clade II contained thirteen taxa [P. adenopoda, P. alba, P. bolleana, P. davidiana, P. hopeiensis, P. nigra, P. qiongdaoensis, P. rotundifolia, P. rotundifolia var. duclouxiana, P. tremula, P. tremula × alba, P. tomentosa, and P. tomentosa (NC)]. Clade III included the ten taxa P. haoana, P. kangdingensis, P. lasiocarpa, P. pseudoglauca, P. qamdoensis, P. schneideri, P. simonii, P. szechuanica, P. szechuanica var. tibetica, and P. yunnanensis. Clade IV included P. cathayana, P. gonggaensis, P. koreana, P. laurifolia, P. trinervis, P. wilsonii, and P. xiangchengensis. The last clade comprised P. angustifolia, P. balsamifera, P. deltoides, P. deltoides × nigra, P. fremontii, P. mexicana, and P. trichocarpa. This phylogeny is also supported by morphological traits, including bark smoothness, bud size, petiole shape, leaf inflorescence, male anther length and male anther tip

    Rechargeable aluminum–selenium batteries with high capacity

    Rechargeable aluminum (Al) batteries are emerging as a promising post lithium-ion battery technology. Herein, we demonstrate a conceptually new design of rechargeable aluminum-selenium (Al-Se) batteries by understanding the selenium chemistry and controlling the electrode reaction. The Al-Se battery consists of a composite cathode including selenium nanowires and mesoporous carbon (CMK-3) nanorods, an Al metal anode and chloroaluminate ionic liquid electrolyte. The working mechanism of the Al-Se battery is the reversible redox reaction of the SeCl/Se pair confined in the mesopores of CMK-3 nanorods. Al-Se batteries deliver a high reversible capacity of 178 mA h g (by Se mass), high discharge voltages (mainly above 1.5 V), and good cycling/rate performances
