Stable, Environmental Specific and Novel QTL Identification as Well as Genetic Dissection of Fatty Acid Metabolism in Brassica napus
Fatty acid (FA) composition is the typical quantitative trait in oil seed crops, of which study is not only closely related to oil content, but is also more critical for the quality improvement of seed oil. The double haploid (DH) population named KN with a high density SNP linkage map was applied for quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis of FA composition in this study. A total of 406 identified QTL were detected for eight FA components with an average confidence interval (CI) of 2.92 cM, the explained phenotypic variation (PV) value ranged from 1.49 to 45.05%. Totally, 204 consensus and 91 unique QTL were further obtained via meta-analysis method for the purpose of detecting multiple environment expressed and pleiotropic QTL, respectively. Of which, 74 stable expressed and 22 environmental specific QTL were also revealed, respectively. In order to make clear the genetic mechanism of FA metabolism at individual QTL level, conditional QTL analysis was also conducted and more than two thousand conditional QTL which could not be detected under the unconditional mapping were detected, which indicated the complex interrelationship of the QTL controlling FA content in rapeseed. Through comparative genomic analysis and homologous gene annotation, 61 candidates related to acyl lipid metabolism were identified underlying the CI of FA QTL. To further visualize the genetic mechanism of FA metabolism, an intuitive and meticulous network about acyl lipid metabolism was constructed and some closely related candidates were positioned. This study provided a more accurate localization for stable and pleiotropic QTL, and a deeper dissection of the molecular regulatory mechanism of FA metabolism in rapeseed
Multiple influence of immune cells in the bone metastatic cancer microenvironment on tumors
Bone is a common organ for solid tumor metastasis. Malignant bone tumor becomes insensitive to systemic therapy after colonization, followed by poor prognosis and high relapse rate. Immune and bone cells in situ constitute a unique immune microenvironment, which plays a crucial role in the context of bone metastasis. This review firstly focuses on lymphatic cells in bone metastatic cancer, including their function in tumor dissemination, invasion, growth and possible cytotoxicity-induced eradication. Subsequently, we examine myeloid cells, namely macrophages, myeloid-derived suppressor cells, dendritic cells, and megakaryocytes, evaluating their interaction with cytotoxic T lymphocytes and contribution to bone metastasis. As important components of skeletal tissue, osteoclasts and osteoblasts derived from bone marrow stromal cells, engaging in ‘vicious cycle’ accelerate osteolytic bone metastasis. We also explain the concept tumor dormancy and investigate underlying role of immune microenvironment on it. Additionally, a thorough review of emerging treatments for bone metastatic malignancy in clinical research, especially immunotherapy, is presented, indicating current challenges and opportunities in research and development of bone metastasis therapies
Palliative care for patients with glioma: A recent scientometric analysis of the Web of Science in 2022
BackgroundPatients with glioma present with complex palliative care needs throughout their disease trajectory. A scientometric analysis is effective and widely used to summarize the most influential studies within a certain field. We present the first scientometric analysis of palliative care for patients with glioma.MethodsBased on a Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) principle, we conducted a generalized search for articles on palliative care for glioma in the Web of Science database and evaluated the top 100 most frequently cited articles among 2,542 articles.ResultsThe number of citations for the top 100 cited articles on palliative care for glioma ranged from 10 to 223. We have a narrative conclusion, as follows: most of these articles were published in oncology-specific journals (n = 53) and palliative-specific journals (n = 22). The United States, Australia, and the Netherlands were the top three countries contributing most of the articles (n = 59). Most of the research methods were quantitative analyses, qualitative analyses, and systematic reviews and meta-analyses (n = 70). In quantitative studies, 66 scales were used, and the top three scales used included the following: the Distress Thermometer, Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Brain Index (FACT-Br), and Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS). The articles were classified into six major categories based on research subjects, including patients (n = 44), caregivers (n = 16), patients and caregivers (n = 20), literature (n = 19), and healthcare providers (n = 1). Articles were classified into seven major categories based on research themes: quality of life (n = 11); end-of-life symptoms and care (n = 16); palliative and supportive care needs (n = 35); advance care planning and decision making (n = 4); psychological, social, and spiritual needs (n = 12); hospice utilization and referral (n = 3); and others (n = 19). The studies of the primary topic are correlated with the number of citations.ConclusionsThe results of the analysis indicated that patients diagnosed with glioma present a high variety of palliative care needs, including physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. The caregiver’s burden and needs are important as well. The proportion of quantitative analyses, qualitative analyses, and systematic reviews and meta-analyses is relatively high, but the number of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was low. End-of-life care and supportive care needs appeared frequently. Thus, palliative care is an urgent need to be addressed in glioma management. The appropriate scales should be selected for patients with glioma and meet their palliative needs
A Physiology-based Mathematical Model for the Selection of Appropriate Ventilator Controls for Lung and Diaphragm Protection
Mechanical ventilation is used to sustain respiratory function in patients with acute respiratory failure. To aid clinicians in consistently selecting lung- and diaphragm-protective ventilation settings, a physiology-based decision support system is needed. To form the foundation of such a system, the Lung- and Diaphragm-Protective Ventilation (LDPV) model has been developed. It centers around respiratory drive and uses patient-specific parameters as inputs and outputs predictions of a patient's transpulmonary and esophageal driving pressures as well as their blood pH. Ventilation and sedation parameters were demonstrated to modulate the model outputs in accordance with what is currently known in literature. The model was also proven to be able to provide robust predictions of model outputs for patient parameters with realistic variability. The usability of the model was improved by applying machine learning methods to the system inputs, allowing several patient-specific input parameters to be inferred.M.A.S
The Indoor Localization of a Mobile Platform Based on Monocular Vision and Coding Images
With the extensive development and utilization of urban underground space, coal mines, and other indoor areas, the indoor positioning technology of these areas has become a hot research topic. This paper proposes a robust localization method for indoor mobile platforms. Firstly, a series of coding graphics were designed for localizing the platform, and the spatial coordinates of these coding graphics were calculated by using a new method proposed in this paper. Secondly, two spatial resection models were constructed based on unit weight and Tukey weight to localize the platform in indoor environments. Lastly, the experimental results show that both models can calculate the position of the platform with good accuracy. The space resection model based on Tukey weight correctly identified the residuals of the observations for calculating the weights to obtain robust positioning results and has a high positioning accuracy. The navigation and positioning method proposed in this study has a high localization accuracy and can be potentially used in localizing practical indoor space mobile platforms
Structural equation modeling analysis of determinants of barriers to breast self-examination among Eastern Chinese women.
BackgroundThis study aimed to establish a structural equation model to determine the associations among knowledge of breast cancer, beliefs about breast self-examination (BSE), BSE practice, socio-economic status (SES), and barriers to BSE among Eastern Chinese women.MethodsAn online cross-sectional correlational survey of 2026 women from Eastern China was undertaken by a self-administered questionnaire in 2020. Structural equation modeling was utilized for examining the interrelationships between BSE barriers and other variables.ResultsOur results suggested that BSE barriers were significantly and negatively related to SES, BSE beliefs, and BSE practices (β = -0.176, p ConclusionsBSE barriers were influenced by SES, breast cancer knowledge, BSE beliefs and BSE practices. Our results warn that breast cancer prevention education should strengthen knowledge of practical methods rather than general knowledge. Therefore, intervention strategies designed to develop BSE and breast cancer prevention should take into account multiple factors, in particular finding more effective ways for the public to turn knowledge into a motivator rather than a barrier
