Correlation functions and emission time sequence of light charged particles from projectile-like fragment source in E/A = 44 and 77 MeV 40Ar + 27Al collisions
Two-particle correlation functions, involving protons, deuterons, tritons,
and alpha-particles, have been measured at very forward angles (0.7 deg <
theta_lab < 7 deg), in order to study projectile-like fragment (PLF) emission
in E/A = 44 and 77 MeV 40Ar + 27Al collisions. Peaks, originating from
resonance decays, are larger at E/A = 44 than at 77 MeV. This reflects the
larger relative importance of independently emitted light particles, as
compared to two-particle decay from unstable fragments, at the higher beam
energy. The time sequence of the light charged particles, emitted from the PLF,
has been deduced from particle-velocity-gated correlation functions (discarding
the contribution from resonance decays). Alpha-particles are found to have an
average emission time shorter than protons but longer than tritons and

Neutron reflection study of the adsorption of the phosphate surfactant NaDEHP onto alumina from water.
The adsorption of a phosphorus analogue of the surfactant AOT, sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (NaDEHP), at the water/alumina interface is described. The material is found to adsorb as an essentially water-free bilayer from neutron reflection measurements. This is similar to the behavior of AOT under comparable conditions, although AOT forms a thicker, more hydrated layer. The NaDEHP shows rather little variation with added salt, but a small thickening of the layer on increasing the pH, in contrast to the behavior of AOT.We thank BP plc and EPSRC for financial support for this work as well as the ISIS and ILL staff and scientists for the allocation of beam time and technical assistance with NR measurements. Polarized Neutron Reflectometry of Nickel Corrosion Inhibitors.
Polarized neutron reflectometry has been used to investigate the detailed adsorption behavior and corrosion inhibition mechanism of two surfactants on a nickel surface under acidic conditions. Both the corrosion of the nickel surface and the structure of the adsorbed surfactant layer could be monitored in situ by the use of different solvent contrasts. Layer thicknesses and roughnesses were evaluated over a range of pH values, showing distinctly the superior corrosion inhibition of one negatively charged surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate) compared to a positively charged example (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide) due to its stronger binding interaction with the surface. It was found that adequate corrosion inhibition occurs at significantly less than full surface coverage.X-ray photoelectron spectra were obtained at the National Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) XPS User’s Service (NEXUS) at Newcastle University, an EPSRC midrange facility. NR data were obtained on the D17 instrument, and samples were treated in the laboratories of the Partnership for Soft Condensed Matter (PSCM) at the Institut Laue-Langevin. The Effect of the Alcoholic Extract of Walnut on the Testis Tissue of Adult Male Rats
Background & aim: Given the widespread use of walnut in the cooking and medical applications, in the present study, the possible effects of the alcoholic extract of walnut on the testis and reproductive activity of adult male rats were studied.
Methods: In the present experimental study, forty adult male Wistar rats weighing 250-300 grams were divided into five groups. The control group did not receive any treatment. Normal saline was intraperitoneally injected to the control group. Experimental groups received three different doses of alcoholic extract of walnut: 10, 20 and 50 mg/ kg intraperitoneally/daily, respectively. The testes were removed from the abdomen and the tissue sections were studied. The gathered data were analyzed using One-way Analysis of variance and Tukey's range test.
Results: Results indicated that walnut extract affect the development and maintenance of spermatogenesis to its final stages, and increased the number of sperms and interstitial cells in the testis. Alcoholic extract of walnut during the test instrument did not have much impact on the structure of the sperm tube tissue.
Conclusion: The alcoholic extract of walnut led to the increased activity of the testis and interstitial cells, followed by an increase in sperm cells and reproductive activity of male rats
