A two-layer data envelopment analysis model for sustainable performance evaluation

Data envelopment analysis is a popular method of evaluating the performance of almost all types of organizations. The aim of this paper is to construct a twolayer DEA model which can be utilized to evaluate the sustainable performance of a manufacturing company based on its degree of leanness. The lean indices are treated as virtual inputs while the sustainability indices are considered as virtual outputs. Empirical results indicated that efficient companies scored high in Human Resources and Supplier and Customer Relationships as well as in Economic and Social Performance. This paper highlights the positive effects of adopting lean manufacturing practices on a company\u27s sustainable performance. © 2018 IEEE

Development of a quadruple bottom line-based composite sustainability index to measure sustainable performance

Manufacturing companies worldwide are faced with the critical issue of sustainable development. The aim of this paper is to develop a quadruple bottom line-based composite sustainability index which can be used by manufacturing firms in measuring their sustainable performance. The proposed index simultaneously considers a firm\u27s economic performance, social performance, environmental performance, and corporate governance. Field study results indicated that an index having a value from 0 to 1 can indeed be computed based on several sustainability indicators expressed in varying units. The index can be employed for performance evaluation to monitor the sustainable performance of a manufacturing company through the years. It can also be utilized for benchmarking to compare sustainable performance with other firms. © 2019 IEEE

Development of a composite lean index to measure lean implementation in Philippine manufacturing companies

Lean manufacturing has been gaining worldwide popularity as a means of reducing waste, improving quality, and increasing the competitiveness of manufacturing firms. This paper aims to develop a composite lean index (CLI) which can be used to measure the degree of lean adoption in Philippine manufacturing companies. The lean index employs actual quantitative data, rather than subjective assessment, which is more prevalent in the literature. Fifteen performance indicators divided into process and equipment, manufacturing planning and control, human resources, and supplier and customer relationships are proposed and then validated using empirical data. Results showed that a CLI, which yields a single value from 0 to 1, can be computed from the 15 metrics formulated using multi-attribute value theory. Manufacturing companies can utilize this index for monitoring progress of lean implementation through the years as well as for benchmarking purposes with other firms. On the other hand, academicians can benefit from this index since most statistical analyses in researches require numerical values as inputs. © 2018 by De La Salle University
