    Evidence for B^(*)_s bar{B}^(*)_s Production at the Upsilon(5S)

    Full text link
    Using data collected by the CLEO III detector at CESR, we started a series of investigations on the Upsilon(5S) resonance decay properties. The data sample used for this analysis consists of 0.42 fb-1 of data taken on the Upsilon(5S) resonance, 6.34 fb-1 of data collected on the Upsilon(4S) and 2.32 fb-1 of data taken in the continuum below the Upsilon(4S). B_s mesons are expected to decay predominantly into D_s meson, while the lighter B mesons decay into D_s only about 10% of the time. We exploit this difference to make a preliminary model dependent estimate of the ratio of B_s(*) anti-B_s(*) to the total b anti-b quark pair production at the Upsilon(5S) energy to be (21 +- 3 +- 9)%.Comment: 17 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CONF/2004/, Presented at ICHEP Aug 16-22,2004, Beijing, Chin

    Measurement of \cal{B}(D^+ --> mu^+ nu) and the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+f_{D^+}

    Full text link
    In 60 pb-1 of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector, we find 8 D+ to mu+ nu event candidates that are mostly signal, containing only 1 estimated background. Using this statistically compelling sample, we measure preliminary values of B(D+ to mu+ nu) = (3.5 +- 1.4 +- 0.6)*10^{-4}, and determine f_{D+} =(201+- 41+- 17) MeV.Comment: 17 pages postscript, also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CONF/2004/, Presented at ICHEP Aug 16-22,2004, Beijing, Chin

    Branching Fraction Measurements of psi(2S) Decay to Baryon-Antibaryon Final States

    Full text link
    Using 3.08 million psi(2S) decays observed in e^+e^- collisions by the CLEO detector, we present the results of a study of the psi(2S) decaying into baryon-antibaryon final states. We report the most precise measurements of the following eight modes: proton-antiproton, lambda-antilambda, Xi^- antiXi^-, Xi^0-antiXi^0 (first observation), Sigma+-antiSigma^+ (first observation), and Sigma^0-antiSigma^0, and place upper limits for the modes, Xi^0*-antiXi^0* and Omega^- antiOmega^-.Comment: 8 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, submitted to PR

    Improved Measurement of cal{B}(D^+ --> mu^+ nu) and the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant f_{D^+}

    Full text link
    We extract a relatively precise value for the decay constant of the D+ meson by measuring B(D+ -> mu+ nu)=(4.40 +/- 0.66 {+0.09}{-0.12}) x 10^{-4}, using 281 inverse-pb of data taken on the psi(3770) resonance with the CLEO-c detector. We find fD+=(222.6 +/- 16.7 {+2.8}{-3.4}) MeV, and compare with current theoretical calculations. We also set a 90% confidence upper limit on B(D+ -> e+ nu)<2.4 x 10^{-5} which limits contributions from non-standard model physics.Comment: 9 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, Submitted to PR

    New Measurements of Upsilon(1S) Decays to Charmonium Final States

    Full text link
    Using substantially larger data samples collected by the CLEO III detector, we report on new measurements of the decays of Upsilon(1S) to charmonium final states, including J/Psi, psi(2S), and chi_cJ. The latter two are first observations of these decays. We measure the branching fractions as follows: B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=(6.4+-0.4+-0.6)x10^-4, B(Y(1S)--> psi(2S)+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.41+-0.11+-0.08, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c1+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.35+-0.08+-0.06, B(Y(1S)--> chi_c2+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)=0.52+-0.12+-0.09, and B(Y(1S)--> chi_c0+X)/B(Y(1S)--> J/Psi+X)<7.4% at 90% confidence level. We also report on the momentum and angular spectra of J/Psi's in Upsilon(1S) decay. The results are compared to predictions of the color octet and color singlet models.Comment: 27 pages postscript,also available through http://w4.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/, submitted to PR

    Observation of psi(3770)--> pi pi J/psi and Measurement of Gamma_{ee}[psi(2S)]

    Full text link
    We observe signals for the decays psi(3770)--> X J/psi from data acquired with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e^+e^- collider with sqrt{s}=3773 MeV. We measure the following branching fractions B(psi(3770)--> XJ/psi) and significances: (189 +- 20 +- 20) x 10^-5 (11.6sigma) for X=pi^+pi^-, (80 +- 25 +- 16) x 10^-5 (3.4sigma) for X=pi^0pi^0, and (87 +- 33 +- 22) x 10^-5 (3.5sigma) for X=eta, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The radiative return process e^+e^- -->gamma psi(2S) populates the same event sample and is used to measure Gamma_{ee}[psi(2S)]=(2.54 +- 0.03 +- 0.11) keV.Comment: 13 ages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2005/, Submitted to PR

    Measurement of Interfering K^*+K^- and K^*-K^+ Amplitudes in the Decay D^0 --> K^+K^-pi^0

    Full text link
    We have studied the Cabibbo-suppressed decay mode D^0 into K^+ K^- pi^0 using a Dalitz plot technique and find the strong phase difference delta_D [defined as delta_(K*^- K^+) - delta_(K*^+ K^-)] = 332 degrees +- 8 degrees +- 11 degrees and relative amplitude r_D [defined as a_(K*^- K^+) / a_(K*^+ K^-)] = 0.52 +- 0.05 +- 0.04. This measurement indicates significant destructive interference between D^0 into K^+ (K^- pi^0)_K*^- and D^0 into K^- (K^+ pi^0)_K*^+ in the Dalitz plot region where these two modes overlap. This analysis uses 9.0 fb^(-1) of data collected at s^(1/2) of approximately 10.58 GeV with the CLEO III detector.Comment: 10 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2006/, Submitted to Phys. Confirmation of the Y(4260) Resonance Production in ISR

    Get PDF
    Using 13.3 fb^-1 of e+e- collision data taken in the Upsilon(1S-4S) region with the CLEO III detector at the CESR collider, a search has been made for the new resonance Y(4260) recently reported by the BaBar Collaboration. The production of Y(4260) in initial state radiation (ISR), and its decay into pi+pi-J/psi are confirmed. A good quality fit to our data is obtained with a single resonance. We determine M(Y(4260))=(4284+17-16(stat)+-4(syst)) MeV/c^2, Gamma(Y(4260))=(73+39-25(stat)+-5(syst)) MeV/c^2, and Gamma_ee(Y(4260))xBr(Y(4260)->pi+pi-J/psi)=(8.9+3.9-3.1(stat)+-1.9(syst)) eV/c^2.Comment: 8 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2006/, Submitted to PRD (Rapid Comm.

    Update of the measurement of the cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons

    Full text link
    We have updated our measurement of the cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons, our publication "Measurement of sigma(e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons) at E_{c.m.} = 3773 MeV", arXiv:hep-ex/0512038, Phys.Rev.Lett.96, 092002 (2006). Simultaneous with this arXiv update, we have published an erratum in Phys.Rev.Lett.104, 159901 (2010). There, and in this update, we have corrected a mistake in the computation of the error on the difference of the cross sections for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> hadrons and e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> DDbar. We have also used a more recent CLEO measurement of cross section for e^+e^- -> psi(3770) -> DDbar. From this, we obtain an upper limit on the branching fraction for psi(3770) -> non-DDbar of 9% at 90% confidence level.Comment: 3 pages, 0 figures. This is an erratum to Phys.Rev.Lett.96:092002,2006. Search for X(3872) in gamma gamma Fusion and ISR at CLEO

    Full text link
    We report on a search for the recently reported X(3872) state using 15.1 fb^{-1} e+ e- data taken in the \sqrt{s} = 9.46-11.30 GeV region. Separate searches for the production of X(3872) in untagged gamma-gamma fusion and e+ e- annihilation following initial state radiation (ISR) are made by taking advantage of the unique correlation of J/psi -> l+ l- in X(3872) decay to pi+ pi- J/psi. No signals are observed in either case, and 90% confidence upper limits are established as (2J+1)\Gamma_{\gamma\gamma}B(X -> pi+ pi- J/psi) < 12.9 eV and \Gamma_{ee}B(X -> pi+ pi- J/psi) < 8.3 eV.Comment: 8 pages postscript,also available through http://www.lns.cornell.edu/public/CLNS/2004/, submitted to PR
