Towards a Semantic Gas Source Localization under Uncertainty
Towards a Semantic Gas Source Localization under Uncertainty.Communications in Computer and Information Science book series (CCIS, volume 855), doi:10.1007/978-3-319-91479-4_42This work addresses the problem of efficiently and coherently
locating a gas source in a domestic environment with a mobile
robot, meaning efficiently the coverage of the shortest distance as possible
and coherently the consideration of different gas sources explaining
the gas presence. The main contribution is the exploitation, for the
first time, of semantic relationships between the gases detected and the
objects present in the environment to face this challenging issue. Our
proposal also takes into account both the uncertainty inherent in the
gas classification and object recognition processes. These uncertainties
are combined through a probabilistic Bayesian framework to provide a
priority-ordered list of (previously observed) objects to check. Moreover
the proximity of the different candidates to the current robot location
is also considered by a cost function, which output is used for planning
the robot inspection path. We have conducted an initial demonstration
of the suitability of our gas source localization approach by simulating
this task within domestic environments for a variable number of objects,
and comparing it with an greedy approach.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech
The topological AC effect on noncommutative phase space
The Aharonov-Casher (AC) effect in non-commutative(NC) quantum mechanics is
studied. Instead of using the star product method, we use a generalization of
Bopp's shift method. After solving the Dirac equations both on noncommutative
space and noncommutative phase space by the new method, we obtain the
corrections to AC phase on NC space and NC phase space respectively.Comment: 8 pages, Latex fil
Measures of Similarity Between Objects Based on Qualitative Shape Descriptions
A computational approach for comparing qualitative shape descriptions
(QSDs) of objects within digital images is presented. First, the dissimilarity
of qualitative features of shape is measured: (i) intuitively using conceptual
neighbourhood diagrams; and (ii) mathematically using interval distances.
Then, a similarity measure between QSDs is defined and tested using
images of different categories of the MPEG-7-CE-Shape-1 library, images
of tiles used to build mosaics, and a collection of Clipart images. The
results obtained show the effectiveness of the similarity measure defined,
which is invariant to translations, rotations and scaling, and which implicitly
manages deformation of shape parts and incompleteness
Quark zero modes in intersecting center vortex gauge fields
The zero modes of the Dirac operator in the background of center vortex gauge
field configurations in and are examined. If the net flux in D=2
is larger than 1 we obtain normalizable zero modes which are mainly localized
at the vortices. In D=4 quasi-normalizable zero modes exist for intersecting
flat vortex sheets with the Pontryagin index equal to 2. These zero modes are
mainly localized at the vortex intersection points, which carry a topological
charge of . To circumvent the problem of normalizability the
space-time manifold is chosen to be the (compact) torus \T^2 and \T^4,
respectively. According to the index theorem there are normalizable zero modes
on \T^2 if the net flux is non-zero. These zero modes are localized at the
vortices. On \T^4 zero modes exist for a non-vanishing Pontryagin index. As
in these zero modes are localized at the vortex intersection points.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, LaTeX2e, references added, treatment of ideal

Testing spatial noncommutativiy via the Aharonov-Bohm effect
The possibility of detecting noncommutative space relics is analyzed using
the Aharonov-Bohm effect. We show that, if space is noncommutative, the
holonomy receives non-trivial kinematical corrections that will produce a
diffraction pattern even when the magnetic flux is quantized. The scattering
problem is also formulated, and the differential cross section is calculated.
Our results can be extrapolated to high energy physics and the bound is found. If this bound holds, then noncommutative
effects could be explored in scattering experiments measuring differential
cross sections for small angles. The bound state Aharonov- Bohm effect is also
discussed.Comment: 16 pp, Revtex 4, 2 fig, new references added. To appear in PR
Extracting invariant characteristics of sketch maps: Towards place query-by-sketch
In geography, invariant aspects of sketches are essential to study because they reflect the human perception of real-world places. A person's perception of a place can be ex-pressed in sketches. In this article, we quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed the characteristics of single objects and characteristics among objects in sketches and the real world to find reliable invariants that can be used to establish references/correspondences between sketch and world in a matching process. These characteristics include category, shape, name, and relative size of each object. Moreover, quantity and spatial relationships—such as topological, or-dering, and location relationships—among all objects are also analyzed to assess consistency between sketched and actual places. The approach presented in this study extracts the reliable invariants for query-by-sketch and prioritizes their relevance for a sketch-map matching process
Exciton swapping in a twisted graphene bilayer as a solid-state realization of a two-brane model
It is shown that exciton swapping between two graphene sheets may occur under
specific conditions. A magnetically tunable optical filter is described to
demonstrate this new effect. Mathematically, it is shown that two turbostratic
graphene layers can be described as a "noncommutative" two-sheeted
(2+1)-spacetime thanks to a formalism previously introduced for the study of
braneworlds in high energy physics. The Hamiltonian of the model contains a
coupling term connecting the two layers which is similar to the coupling
existing between two braneworlds at a quantum level. In the present case, this
term is related to a K-K' intervalley coupling. In addition, the experimental
observation of this effect could be a way to assess the relevance of some
theoretical concepts of the braneworld hypothesis.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures, final version published in European Physical

Landau Analog Levels for Dipoles in the Noncommutative Space and Phase Space
In the present contribution we investigate the Landau analog energy
quantization for neutral particles, that possesses a nonzero permanent magnetic
and electric dipole moments, in the presence of an homogeneous electric and
magnetic external fields in the context of the noncommutative quantum
mechanics. Also, we analyze the Landau--Aharonov--Casher and
Landau--He--McKellar--Wilkens quantization due to noncommutative quantum
dynamics of magnetic and electric dipoles in the presence of an external
electric and magnetic fields and the energy spectrum and the eigenfunctions are
obtained. Furthermore, we have analyzed Landau quantization analogs in the
noncommutative phase space, and we obtain also the energy spectrum and the
eigenfunctions in this context.Comment: 20 pages, references adde
Casimir energy of massive MIT fermions in a Bohm-Aharonov background
We study the effect of a background flux string on the vacuum energy of
massive Dirac fermions in 2+1 dimensions confined to a finite spatial region
through MIT boundary conditions. We treat two admissible self-adjoint
extensions of the Hamiltonian and compare the results. In particular, for one
of these extensions, the Casimir energy turns out to be discontinuous at
integer values of the flux.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure
