In 1936-1948, Koyama−shoten published 8 books under the title of Sin−Hudoki Sosyo(New Chorography Series). Koyama had confidence that this series aiming at Heimatdichtung would gain popularity. Finally this series suffered a setback by the War. It is said that the series succeeded to a certain extent. This author survey the posession of public libraries to make clear whether the books of this series were read everywhere in Japan. The survey reveals that the distribution of the books has spatial partiality, but that the partiality is not so keen

In 1849-1854, a juvenile writer Mortimer, F. L. published two titles of geography book, Near home and Far off. Pruzan, T. abstracted severe description form these books and compiled his The clumsiest people in Europe. Pruzan neglected ordinary description and picked up eccentric one, and made up emotional style, which he ttributes to Mortimer, by gathering sentences from plural paragraphs into one paragraph. He even altered the original neutral captions of illustrations into sensational ones. His characterization of her books as superficial, obsolescent and unrealistic is in valid. In the prefaces of the books, Mortimer declared that books for infants should be superficial so as to inspire their desire to know, and that her books were preliminary to reports of missionary activities. She attached importance to secular knowledge, her books for them wrere not ‘sadistic’. Egocentricism of Mortimer, perhaps common in mid?19th century Britain, is backed up by civilized/savage discrimination and the idea of equality of souls in the sight of God. It was far from nationalism which prevailed from the latter half of 19th century. Pruzan failed to grasp this point and to examine it in the context. Rather he regarded her ‘racism’ as omnipresent in everyone and everytime, and forgave it in the same ‘scornful’ manner as Mortimer

Hayatori is a tale adapted as a textbook material of elementary school. In Japan, Hudoki is originally the title for chorographies or reports, which the central government ordered each province to present in 813. It got the status as a symbol of “lost antiquity” in pre−modern Japan. Thus the preference for “hudoki”, that is hudokiphilia, prevails in modern Japan. “Hudoki” is used for the title of books, musics, dramas, movies, TV−program, web−pages, and many goods with local tastes. This article examined the state of publication of books titled as hudoki. They have been published concentratedly in 1970-2000. The regions which these hudoki describe are mainly Japan. In his Globetrotter, A. Nakano checked travel writings by globtrotters, and attempted to clarify how their travels were in Meizi Japan and to classify globaltrotters according to their travel styles. His standard of selecting travel writings to be checked is vague. He tacitly supposes a true globtrotter to be professional adventurous travel writer. He showes some examples of globetrottrs’ travels, which are not peculiar to globetrotters. He classifies globetrotters into two types, one travels for itself, and one travels with multi purposes and is unhappy inevitably. The 4th quarter of the 19th cetury showed outbreak of travels among ordinary people. Examination of their travels and extensive comparison is necessary
