The circus is an artistic-cultural manifestation capable of embracing different social spheres such as artistic, therapeutic, social, leisure, educational, physical conditioning, and has been attracting the attention of professionals from multiple areas. At this juncture, circus education has been taking place in different social contexts, including early childhood education, with the participation of an increasingly larger and more diverse audience. Therefore, this research aims to understand how schools and teachers in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, organize the knowledge of the circus and how they are applied into their work plan. To this end, we intend to carry out a field research that will include direct observation and recording of both classes and activities in Field Journal as well as semi-structured interviews with the leading teachers and coordinators of the schools. The information obtained was interpreted in a qualitative way, using the Thematic Categorical Analysis methodology. We noticed the presence of games and playfulness, storytelling and artistic presentations in all participating schools, important strategies that show us specificities with the approach, material, spaces and circus contente for this age group.O circo é uma manifestação artístico-cultural que pode abranger diferentes âmbitos sociais como o artístico, terapêutico, social, lazer, educativo e condicionamento físico, além disso vem atraindo a atenção de profissionais de diferentes áreas, incluindo pedagogos em geral.
Azuki Bean Juice Lowers Serum Triglyceride Concentrations in Healthy Young Women
Effects of azuki bean juice supplementation, prescribed according to a Kanpo medicine regimen, on serum lipid concentrations were studied. Healthy young Japanese women were recruited and were randomly assigned to one of the three groups using a parallel-group design. Control (n = 10), azuki (n = 11) and Concentrated azuki (CA) (n = 12) juice groups consumed 150 g daily of the isocaloric assigned juice for one menstrual cycle with their usual diet. Triglyceride concentrations were decreased in the azuki juice group (p<0.05) and tended to be decreased in the CA juice group (p = 0.055). Triglyceride concentrations in the azuki and CA juice groups decreased by 0.170 mmol/liter (15.4%) and 0.159 mmol/liter (17.9%), respectively (p<0.05). The azuki and CA juice used in this study inhibited pancreatic lipase activity 29.2% and 56.9%, respectively, in vitro. Lipid peroxide changes, based on ANCOVA with the initial level and α-tocopherol changes as covariates, did not differ among the three groups. Serum low density lipoprotein-cholesterol and high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL) cholesterol concentrations did not change. Thus, azuki bean juice intake, as a traditional Kampo prescription, might be beneficial for preventing hypertriglyceridemia
The purpose of this study is to determine the current state of dietary consciousness and habits and food intake in relation to living style. A survey on these three factors was administered to 165 college students enrolled in a nutrition course in Tokyo. Compared with students living alone, students living at home often brought their own lunches although they cooked less often. In addition, the intake of nutrients by students living at home was significantly higher. Students living with their family were also found to consume significantly more quantities of rice, potatoes, vegetables, mushrooms, and seaweed. In general, the students were found to consume less than the number of servings for each food group (except for main dishes) recommended in the Japanese Food Guide Spinning Top, with students living alone consuming even less. Students who were in control of their dietary habits made up 15.4% of those living alone, and this percentage was significantly lower than of those living at home. Most of the students wanted to follow ideal dietary habits, but could not afford the money and time to do so. The results suggest that the cultivation of an environment that matches participants\u27 characteristics could improve their dietary habits
Axenic culture of Brachionus plicatilis using antibiotics
The rotifer Brachionus plicatilis culture is composed of complex microcosms including bacteria, protozoans, algae, and fungi. Previous studies reported methods to establish axenic rotifer cultures, but further refinement of these techniques is needed, for molecular biological research which requires pure culture to isolate nucleic acids from rotifers only. In order to render rotifer culture axenic, we tested five antibiotics: ampicillin (Amp), chloramphenicol (Cp), kanamycin (Km), nalidixic acid (Na), and streptomycin (Sm) at 30-100 μg/ml. Except for Cp, which reduces rotifer reproduction, all other antibiotics at the tested concentrations did not affect rotifer reproduction or show any toxic effects. A rotifer disinfection method was finally established by treating the resting eggs with 0.25% (w/v) sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for 3 min, washing with sterilized sea water, and then exposing the neonates to an Amp, Km, Na, and Sm mixture. Using four nutrient media, we confirmed that this protocol renders the rotifer culture bacterial and fungus free. The axenic rotifer culture generated here is useful not only for genetic analysis of Brachionus plicatilis, but for studying the rotifer life cycle without bacterial influence
