Calculation of cyclic voltammetric responses for the reductive formation of catalyst-substrate adducts on electrode surfaces

    Get PDF
Electrocatalysts based on monolayers of transition-metal complexes attached to electrode surfaces frequently follow mechanisms in which a chemical step is interposed between the first and subsequent electron-transfer steps. The cyclic voltammetric responses to be anticipated for such systems were calculated using finite difference procedures to solve the relevant differential equation. The calculated variation of the peak currents and peak potentials with the kinetic parameters governing the three steps in the mechanistic scheme are presented in graphical form. Application of the results to a specific experimental system, the catalysis of the electroreduction of O_2 by a macrocyclic complex of Co^(III) adsorbed on graphite electrodes, produced reasonable agreement between calculated and observed cyclic voltammograms

Regulation, Targets and Functions of CHK

    Get PDF
Src family kinases (SFKs) play pivotal roles in multiple signaling pathways (Yeatman, 2004). SFK activity is inhibited by phosphorylation at its C-terminal tyrosine, by CSK (C-terminal Src kinase) and CHK (CSK-homologous kinase). CHK expression is restricted to normal hematopoietic cells, brain, and colon tissues. Downregulation of CHK in brain and colon tumors contributes to tumorigenicity in these tissues. CHK does not phosphorylate Src efficiently, however, in contrast to CSK, CHK inhibits Src kinase activity allosterically. Although the functions of CHK are still largely unknown, potential substrates of CHK including Ī²-synuclein, Ī±-tubulin, Ī±-spectrin, 14-3-3, and Hsp90 have been identified. CHK is regulated epigenetically via promoter methylation. As the unknown roles of CHK are beginning to be revealed, current knowledge of regulation, molecular targets and functions of CHK is summarized, and important topics for future CHK research are discussed

Leveraging Historical Medical Records as a Proxy via Multimodal Modeling and Visualization to Enrich Medical Diagnostic Learning

Simulation-based Medical Education (SBME) has been developed as a cost-effective means of enhancing the diagnostic skills of novice physicians and interns, thereby mitigating the need for resource-intensive mentor-apprentice training. However, feedback provided in most SBME is often directed towards improving the operational proficiency of learners, rather than providing summative medical diagnoses that result from experience and time. Additionally, the multimodal nature of medical data during diagnosis poses significant challenges for interns and novice physicians, including the tendency to overlook or over-rely on data from certain modalities, and difficulties in comprehending potential associations between modalities. To address these challenges, we present DiagnosisAssistant, a visual analytics system that leverages historical medical records as a proxy for multimodal modeling and visualization to enhance the learning experience of interns and novice physicians. The system employs elaborately designed visualizations to explore different modality data, offer diagnostic interpretive hints based on the constructed model, and enable comparative analyses of specific patients. Our approach is validated through two case studies and expert interviews, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing medical training.Comment: Accepted by IEEE VIS 202
