    Generation of cluster states

We propose two schemes for the generation of the cluster states. One is based on cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) techniques. The scheme only requires resonant interactions between two atoms and a single-mode cavity. The interaction time is very short, which is important in view of decoherence. Furthermore, we also discuss the cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission case. The other is based on atomic ensembles. The scheme has inherent fault tolerance function and is robust to realistic noise and imperfections. All the facilities used in our schemes are well within the current technology.Comment: Complete rewite version, adding the main results of quant-ph/0511045. 7 pages and 3 figure

Semantic Communications with Explicit Semantic Base for Image Transmission

Semantic communications, aiming at ensuring the successful delivery of the meaning of information, are expected to be one of the potential techniques for the next generation communications. However, the knowledge forming and synchronizing mechanism that enables semantic communication systems to extract and interpret the semantics of information according to the communication intents is still immature. In this paper, we propose a semantic image transmission framework with explicit semantic base (Seb), where Sebs are generated and employed as the knowledge shared between the transmitter and the receiver with flexible granularity. To represent images with Sebs, a novel Seb-based reference image generator is proposed to generate Sebs and then decompose the transmitted images. To further encode/decode the residual information for precise image reconstruction, a Seb-based image encoder/decoder is proposed. The key components of the proposed framework are optimized jointly by end-to-end (E2E) training, where the loss function is dedicated designed to tackle the problem of nondifferentiable operation in Seb-based reference image generator by introducing a gradient approximation mechanism. Extensive experiments show that the proposed framework outperforms state-of-art works by 0.5 - 1.5 dB in peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) w.r.t. different signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)

Optimized Design on the Width and Spacing of the Cross Passageway in Tunnels

    Get PDF
AbstractCross passageways have been commonly applied in the evacuation system of tunnels, and the width and spacing of the cross passageways decide the evacuation capacity of the tunnel. In design, increasing the width of the cross passageways and reducing their spacing can improve the evacuation ability of tunnels. However, it will certainly increase the cost of the project. Under the precondition of meeting evacuation requirements, an optimization model was established in this article, which aimed at reducing the cost of the project. Finally, discussions on the application of this optimization model were carried on, and this method may provide reference for designing cross passageways
