Sepsis and sepsis-associated lung inflammation significantly contribute to the morbidity and mortality of critical illness. Here, we examined the hypothesis that neuronal guidance proteins could orchestrate inflammatory events during endotoxin-induced lung injury. Through a targeted array, we identified netrin-1 as the top upregulated neuronal guidance protein in macrophages treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Furthermore, we found that netrin-1 is highly enriched in infiltrating myeloid cells, particularly in macrophages during LPS-induced lung injury. Transcriptional studies implicate hypoxia-inducible factor HIF-1α in the transcriptional induction of netrin-1 during LPS treatment. Subsequently, the deletion of netrin-1 in the myeloid compartment (Ntn

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α-dependent induction of miR122 enhances hepatic ischemia tolerance

Hepatic ischemia and reperfusion (IR) injury contributes to the morbidity and mortality associated with liver transplantation. microRNAs (miRNAs) constitute a family of noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression at the posttranslational level through the repression of specific target genes. Here, we hypothesized that miRNAs could be targeted to enhance hepatic ischemia tolerance. A miRNA screen in a murine model of hepatic IR injury pointed us toward the liver-specific miRNA miR122. Subsequent studies in mice with hepatocyte-specific deletion of miR122 (miR122loxP/loxP Alb-Cre+ mice) during hepatic ischemia and reperfusion revealed exacerbated liver injury. Transcriptional studies implicated hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1α) in the induction of miR122 and identified the oxygen-sensing prolyl hydroxylase domain 1 (PHD1) as a miR122 target. Further studies indicated that HIF1α-dependent induction of miR122 participated in a feed-forward pathway for liver protection via the enhancement of hepatic HIF responses through PHD1 repression. Moreover, pharmacologic studies utilizing nanoparticle-mediated miR122 overexpression demonstrated attenuated liver injury. Finally, proof-of-principle studies in patients undergoing orthotopic liver transplantation showed elevated miR122 levels in conjunction with the repression of PHD1 in post-ischemic liver biopsies. Taken together, the present findings provide molecular insight into the functional role of miR122 in enhancing hepatic ischemia tolerance and suggest the potential utility of pharmacologic interventions targeting miR122 to dampen hepatic injury during liver transplantation

Application of Ultra Narrow Band Modulation in Enhanced Loran System

No full text
The Enhanced Loran (eLoran) system is valued for its important role in the positioning, navigation, and timing fields; however, with its current modulation methods, low data rate restricts its development. Ultra narrow band (UNB) modulation is a modulation method with extremely high spectrum utilization. If UNB modulation can be applied to the eLoran system, it will be very helpful. The extended binary phase shift keying modulation in UNB modulation is selected for a detailed study, parameters and application model are designed according to its unique characteristics of signal time and frequency domains, and it is verified through simulation that the application of this modulation not only meets the design constraints of the eLoran system but also does not affect the reception of the respective signals of both parties. Several feasible schemes are compared, analyzed, and selected. Studies have revealed that application of UNB modulation in the eLoran system is feasible, and it will increase the data rate of the system by dozens of times

Lignocellulose-Based Superabsorbent Polymer Gel Crosslinked with Magnesium Aluminum Silicate for Highly Removal of Zn (II) from Aqueous Solution

Lignocellulose (LCE) was ultrasonically treated and intercalated into magnesium aluminum silicate (MOT) clay to prepare a nano-lignocellulose magnesium aluminum silicate polymer gel (nano-LCE-MOT) for the removal of Zn (II) from aqueous solution. The product was characterised using nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm measurements, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The conditions for the adsorption of Zn (II) on nano-LCE-MOT were screened, and adsorption kinetics and isotherm model analysis were carried out to explore the adsorption mechanism and achieve the optimal adsorption of Zn (II). Optimal adsorption was achieved at an initial Zn (II) concentration of 800 mg/L at 60 °C in 160 min at a pH of 4.52. The adsorption kinetics were explored using a pseudo-second-order model, with the isotherm adsorption equilibrium found to conform to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity of the nano-LCE-MOT polymer gel toward Zn (II) is 513.48 mg/g. The materials with adsorbed Zn (II) were desorbed using different media, with HCl found to be the most ideal medium to desorb Zn (II). The optimal desorption of Zn (II) was achieved in 0.08 mol/L HCl solution at 65 °C in 60 min. Under these conditions, Zn (II) was almost completely desorbed from the adsorbents, with the adsorption effect after cycling being slightly different from that of the initial adsorption

Evaluation of Aerogel Spheres Derived from Salix psammophila in Removal of Heavy Metal Ions in Aqueous Solution

Heavy metal wastewater treatment is a huge problem facing human beings, and the application degree of Salix psammophila resources produced by flat stubble is low. Therefore, it is very important to develop high-value products of Salix psammophila resources and apply them in the removal heavy metal from effluent. In this work, we extracted the cellulose from Salix psammophila, and cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were prepared through TEMPO oxidation/ultrasound. The aerogel spheres derived from Salix psammophila (ASSP) were prepared with the hanging drop method. The experimental results showed that the Cu(II) adsorption capacity of the ASSP composite (267.64 mg/g) doped with TOCNF was significantly higher than that of pure cellulose aerogel spheres (52.75 mg/g). The presence of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in ASSP enhanced the adsorption capacity of heavy metals. ASSP is an excellent heavy metal adsorbent, and its maximum adsorption values for Cu(II), Mn(II), and Zn(II) were found to be 272.69, 253.25, and 143.00 mg/g, respectively. The abandoned sand shrub resource of SP was used to adsorb heavy metals from effluent, which provides an important reference value for the development of forestry in this sandy area and will have a great application potential in the fields of the adsorption of heavy metals in soil and antibiotics in water
