Properties of the scalar mesons f0(1370)f_0(1370), f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710)

In the three-state mixing framework, considering the possible glueball components of η\eta and η\eta^\prime, we investigate the hadronic decays of f0(1370)f_0(1370), f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710) into two pseudoscalar mesons. The quarkonia-glueball content of the three states is determined from the fit to the new data presented by the WA102 Collaboration. We find that these data are insensitive to the possible glueball components of η\eta and η\eta^\prime. Furthermore, we discuss some properties of the mass matrix describing the mixing of the isoscalar scalar mesons.Comment: Latex 14 pages including 1 eps figur

Transcribing Content from Structural Images with Spotlight Mechanism

Transcribing content from structural images, e.g., writing notes from music scores, is a challenging task as not only the content objects should be recognized, but the internal structure should also be preserved. Existing image recognition methods mainly work on images with simple content (e.g., text lines with characters), but are not capable to identify ones with more complex content (e.g., structured symbols), which often follow a fine-grained grammar. To this end, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical Spotlight Transcribing Network (STN) framework followed by a two-stage "where-to-what" solution. Specifically, we first decide "where-to-look" through a novel spotlight mechanism to focus on different areas of the original image following its structure. Then, we decide "what-to-write" by developing a GRU based network with the spotlight areas for transcribing the content accordingly. Moreover, we propose two implementations on the basis of STN, i.e., STNM and STNR, where the spotlight movement follows the Markov property and Recurrent modeling, respectively. We also design a reinforcement method to refine the framework by self-improving the spotlight mechanism. We conduct extensive experiments on many structural image datasets, where the results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of STN framework.Comment: Accepted by KDD2018 Research Track. A proposal on the search for the hybrid with IG(JPC)=1(1+)I^G(J^{PC})=1^-(1^{-+}) in the process J/ψρωππJ/\psi\to\rho\omega\pi\pi at upgraded BEPC/BES

The moment expressions for the boson resonances X with spin-parity 0++, 1-+, 1++, and 2++ possibly produced in the process J/ψρXJ/\psi\to\rho X, Xb1(1235)πX\to b_1(1235)\pi, b1ωπb_1\to \omega \pi are given in terms of the generalized moment analysis method. The 1-+ resonance can be distinguished from other resonances by means of these moments except for some rather special cases. The suggestion that the search for the 1-+ hybrid can be performed in the above decay channel at upgraded BEPC/BES is presented.Comment: Latex 13 pages, no figur

Gas-phase Silicon Etching With Bromine Trifluoride

    Get PDF
We report the first study of gas phase silicon micromachining using pure bromine trifluoride (BrF/sub 3/) gas at room temperature. This work includes both the design of a new apparatus and etching characterization. Consistent etching results and high molecular etching efficiency (80%) have been achieved by performing the etching in a controlled pulse mode. This pure gaseous BrF/sub 3/ etching process is isotropic and has a high etch rate with superb selectivity over silicon dioxide (3000:1), silicon nitride (400-800:1) and photoresist (1000:1). Moreover, gaseous BrF/sub 3/ etching has also been demonstrated in surface micromachining process, where silicon nitride channels and membranes using polysilicon as the sacrificial layer have been successfully fabricated

Surface micromachined leakage proof Parylene check valve

We report here a surface micromachined leakage proof Parylene MEMS check valve that has nearly ideal performance. This new check valve has a unique design that its valve membrane has a sealing ring directly deposited on, and hence in direct contact with, the gold-coated valve seat. The adhesion between Parylene and gold is studied along with the reduction of adhesion of the sealing ring to the valve seat when self-assembled monolayer (SAM) coatings are used on gold. Testing results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of SAM coating. Experiments show that the valves have no observable leakage in the reverse flow direction up to 30 psi and a cracking pressure less than 1 psi in the forward flow direction. Integration of this valve with microchannels in a microfluidic system is also demonstrated. Testing shows the in-channel check valve also has nearly ideal performance under both forward and reverse flow

Expression and role of fibroblast activation protein-alpha in microinvasive breast carcinoma

Abstract

Background

Diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) in breast cancer cases is challenging for pathologist due to a variety of in situ patterns and artefacts, which could be misinterpreted as stromal invasion. Microinvasion is detected by the presence of cytologically malignant cells outside the confines of the basement membrane and myoepithelium. When malignant cells invade the stroma, there is tissue remodeling induced by perturbed stromal-epithelial interactions. Carcinoma-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are main cells in the microenvironment of the remodeled tumor-host interface. They are characterized by the expression of the specific fibroblast activation protein-alpha (FAP-α), and differ from that of normal fibroblasts exhibiting an immunophenotype of CD34. We hypothesized that staining for FAP-α may be helpful in determining whether DCIS has microinvasion.

Methods

349 excised breast specimens were immunostained for smooth muscle actin SMA, CD34, FAP-α, and Calponin. Study material was divided into 5 groups: group 1: normal mammary tissues of healthy women after plastic surgery; group 2: usual ductal hyperplasia (UDH); group 3: DCIS without microinvasion on H & E stain; group 4: DCIS with microinvasion on H & E stain (DCIS-MI), and group 5: invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). A comparative evaluation of the four immunostains was conducted.

Results

Our results demonstrated that using FAP-α and Calponin adjunctively improved the sensitivity of pathological diagnosis of DCIS-MI by 11.29%, whereas the adjunctive use of FAP-α and Calponin improved the sensitivity of pathological diagnosis of DCIS by 13.6%.

Conclusions

This study provides the first evidence that immunostaining with FAP-α and Calponin can serve as a novel marker for pathologically diagnosing whether DCIS has microinvasion.</p

    Poly[[(μ3-5,6-dicarboxybicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-ene-2,3-dicarboxylato)(1,10-phenanthroline)copper(II)] monohydrate]

In the title compound, {[Cu(C12H10O8)(C12H8N2)]·H2O}n, the CuII ion is five-coordinated by two N atoms from one phenanthroline ligand and three O atoms from three different H2 L 2− anions (H4 L is bicyclo[2.2.2]oct-7-ene-2,3,5,6-tetracarboxylic acid) in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Each H2 L 2− ion bridges three CuII atoms to form a zigzag sheet parallel to the ab plane. The crystal structure is consolidated by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds
