AutoCycle-VC: Towards Bottleneck-Independent Zero-Shot Cross-Lingual Voice Conversion
This paper proposes a simple and robust zero-shot voice conversion system
with a cycle structure and mel-spectrogram pre-processing. Previous works
suffer from information loss and poor synthesis quality due to their reliance
on a carefully designed bottleneck structure. Moreover, models relying solely
on self-reconstruction loss struggled with reproducing different speakers'
voices. To address these issues, we suggested a cycle-consistency loss that
considers conversion back and forth between target and source speakers.
Additionally, stacked random-shuffled mel-spectrograms and a label smoothing
method are utilized during speaker encoder training to extract a
time-independent global speaker representation from speech, which is the key to
a zero-shot conversion. Our model outperforms existing state-of-the-art results
in both subjective and objective evaluations. Furthermore, it facilitates
cross-lingual voice conversions and enhances the quality of synthesized speech
Deep Imbalanced Time-series Forecasting via Local Discrepancy Density
Time-series forecasting models often encounter abrupt changes in a given
period of time which generally occur due to unexpected or unknown events.
Despite their scarce occurrences in the training set, abrupt changes incur loss
that significantly contributes to the total loss. Therefore, they act as noisy
training samples and prevent the model from learning generalizable patterns,
namely the normal states. Based on our findings, we propose a reweighting
framework that down-weights the losses incurred by abrupt changes and
up-weights those by normal states. For the reweighting framework, we first
define a measurement termed Local Discrepancy (LD) which measures the degree of
abruptness of a change in a given period of time. Since a training set is
mostly composed of normal states, we then consider how frequently the temporal
changes appear in the training set based on LD. Our reweighting framework is
applicable to existing time-series forecasting models regardless of the
architectures. Through extensive experiments on 12 time-series forecasting
models over eight datasets with various in-output sequence lengths, we
demonstrate that applying our reweighting framework reduces MSE by 10.1% on
average and by up to 18.6% in the state-of-the-art model.Comment: Accepted at European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles

Remote health monitoring services in nursing homes
Aged people are challenged by serious complications from chronic diseases, such as mood disorder, diabetes, heart disease, and infectious diseases, which are also the most common causes of death in older people. Therefore, elderly care facilities are more important than ever. The most common causes of death in elderly care facilities were reported to be diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and pneumonia. Recently, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic have a great impact on blind spots of safety where aged people were isolated from society. Elderly care facilities were one of the blind spots in the midst of the pandemic, where major casualties were reported from COVID-19 complications because most people had one or two mortality risk factors, such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Therefore, medical governance of public health center and hospital, and elderly care facility is becoming important issue of priority. Thus, remote health monitoring service by the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) sensors is more important than ever. Recently, technological breakthroughs have enabled healthcare professionals to have easy access to patients in medical blind spots through the use of IoT sensors. These sensors can detect medically urgent situations in a timely fashion and make medical decisions for aged people in elderly care facilities. Real-time electrocardiogram and blood sugar monitoring sensors are approved by the medical insurance service. Real-time monitoring services in medical blind spots, such as elderly care facilities, has been suggested. Heart rhythm monitoring could play a role in detecting early cardiovascular disease events and monitoring blood glucose levels in the management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, in aged people in elderly care facilities. This review presents the potential usefulness of remote monitoring with IoMT sensors in medical blind spots and clinical suggestions for applications
The dispensability of VH-VL pairing and the indispensability of VL domain integrity in the IgG1 secretion process
Introduction: The CH1 domain of IgG antibodies controls assembly and secretion, mediated by the molecular chaperone BiP via the endoplasmic reticulum protein quality control (ERQC) mechanism. However, it is not clear whether the variable domains are necessary for this process. Methods: Here, we generated IgG1 antibodies in which the V domain (VH and/or VL) was either removed or replaced, and then assessed expression, assembly, and secretion in HEK293 cells. Results: All Ig variants formed a covalent linkage between the CÎł1 and CÎș, were successfully secreted in an assembled form. Replacement of the cognate VÎș with a non-secretory pseudo VÎș (ÏVÎș) hindered secretion of individual or assembled secretion of neither heavy chains (HCs) nor light chains (LCs). The ÏLC (ÏVÎș-CÎș) exhibited a less folded structure compared to the wild type (wt) LC, as evidenced by enhanced stable binding to the molecular chaperone BiP and susceptibility to proteolytic degradation. Molecular dynamics simulation demonstrated dramatic alterations in overall structure of ÏFab (Fd-ÏLC) from wt Fab.Discussion: These findings suggest that V domains do not initiate HC:LC assembly and secretion; instead, the critical factor governing IgG assembly and secretion is the CH-CL pairing. Additionally, the structural integrity of the VL domain is crucial for IgG secretion. These data offer valuable insight into the design of bioactive molecules based on an IgG backbone
Patterns of Paternal Involvement of Korean Fathers: A Person-Centered Approach
Given roles and expectations of father involvement in South Korea are in transition from traditional breadwinner to an involved caregiver to children, it is plausible that Korean fathers show diverse involvement behaviors in the contexts of work, family, and parenting. Using a person-centered approach, we explored if there were groupings of Korean fathers who could be identified from their involvement with their children. We also examined if those subgroup memberships were related to various factors in work, family, and parenting domains. With a sample of 212 married working fathers and the 12 items of involvement behaviors, we found four heterogeneous subgroups of people: low-involved, accessibility-focused, involved-but-less-accessible, and highly involved fathers. Significant differences among the four profiles were also found regarding various factors such as job stress, work and family conflict, work schedule, maternal employment, parenting satisfaction, and perceived level of involvement. Suggestions for future research, practitioners, and policymakers were discussed
Exploring dopantâenhanced ionic conductivity of AgClâdoped Li7P3S11 solid electrolytes:Integrating synchrotron Rietveld analysis, DFT, and ANNâbased molecular dynamics approaches
The effectiveness of dualâdoping as a method of improving the conductivity of sulfide solid electrolytes (SEs) is not in doubt; however, the atomicâlevel mechanisms underpinning these enhancements remain elusive. In this study, we investigate the atomic mechanisms associated with the high ionic conductivity of the Li7P3S11 (LPS) SE and its response to Ag/Cl dual dopants. Synthesis and electrochemical characterizations show that the 0.2 M AgClâdoped LPS (Li6.8P3Ag0.1S10.9Cl0.1) exhibited an over 80% improvement in ionic conductivity compared with the undoped LPS. The atomicâlevel structures responsible for the enhanced conductivity were generated by a set of experiment and simulation techniques: synchrotron Xâray diffractometry, Rietveld refinement, density functional theory, and artificial neural networkâbased molecular dynamics simulations. This thorough characterization highlights the role of dual dopants in altering the structure and ionic conductivity. We found that the PS4 and P2S7 structural motifs of LPS undergo transformation into various PSx substructures. These changes in the substructures, in conjunction with the paddleâwheel effect, enable rapid Li migration. The dopant atoms serve to enhance the flexibility of PS4âP2S7 polyhedral frameworks, consequently enhancing the ionic conductivity. Our study elucidates a clear structureâconductivity relationship for the dualâdoped LPS, providing a fundamental guideline for the development of sulfide SEs with superior conductivity
AdipoRon, adiponectin receptor agonist, improves vascular function in the mesenteric arteries of type 2 diabetic mice.
BACKGROUND:An orally active synthetic adiponectin receptor agonist, AdipoRon has been suggested to ameliorate insulin resistance, and glucose tolerance. However, the chronic effect of AdipoRon in the vascular dysfunction in type 2 diabetes has not been studied yet. Thus, in this study, we examined whether AdipoRon improves vascular function in type 2 diabetes. METHODS:Type 2 diabetic (db-/db-) mice were treated with AdipoRon (10 mg/kg/everyday, by oral gavage) for 2 weeks. Body weight and blood glucose levels were recorded every other day during the experimental period. Diameter of mesenteric arteries was measured. And western blot analysis was performed with mesenteric arteries. RESULTS:Pressure-induced myogenic response was significantly increased while endothelium-dependent relaxation was reduced in the mesenteric arteries of db-/db- mice. Treatment of AdipoRon normalized potentiated myogenic response, whereas endothelium-dependent relaxation was not affected by treatment of AdipoRon. The expression levels of AdiR1, AdiR2, APPL1, and APPL 2 were increased in the mesenteric arteries of db-/db- mice and treatment of AdipoRon did not affect them. Interestingly, AdipoRon treatment increased the phospho-AMPK and decreased MYPT1 phosphorylation in db-/db- mice while there was no change in the level of eNOS phosphorylation. CONCLUSION:The treatment of AdipoRon improves vascular function in the mesenteric arteries of db-/db- mice through endothelium-independent mechanism. We suggest that MLCP activation through reduced phosphorylation of MYPT1 might be the dominant mechanism in the AdipoRon-induced vascular effect
Minimizing the number of IGMP report messages for receiver-driven layered video multicasting
International audienceTo manage multicast group in wired or wireless domain, the hosts need to send internet group management protocol (IGMP) report message when they are queried by the multicast routers. In fact, the bandwidth of wireless domain and mobile nodes' battery power are scarce resources; therefore, it can be big burden for the receiver-driven layered video multicasting (RLVM) receiving mobile hosts to follow the conventional report sending phenomenon, where a host needs to send a report message for subscribing each of the video layers. In this paper, we propose a mechanism for reducing the number of IGMP report messages for RLVM receiving hosts. The protocol overhead and efficiency are evaluated, and compared with conventional IGMPs. Our results show that applying proposed idea in IGMP the number of report messages can be minimized significantly for RLVM service
Vasodilatory Effect of Phellinus linteus Extract in Rat Mesenteric Arteries
Phellinus linteus is a well-known medicinal mushroom that is widely used in Asian countries. In several experimental models, Phellinus linteus extracts were reported to have various biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, hepatoprotective, anti-diabetic, neuroprotective, and anti-angiogenic activity. In the present study, several bioactive compounds, including palmitic acid ethyl ester and linoleic acid, were identified in Phellinus linteus. The intermediate-conductance calcium-activated potassium channel (IKCa) plays an important role in the regulation of the vascular smooth muscle cells’ (VSMCs) contraction and relaxation. The activation of the IKCa channel causes the hyperpolarization and relaxation of VSMCs. To examine whether Phellinus linteus extract causes vasodilation in the mesenteric arteries of rats, we measured the isometric tension using a wire myograph. After the arteries were pre-contracted with U46619 (a thromboxane analogue, 1 µM), Phellinus linteus extract was administered. The Phellinus linteus extract induced vasodilation in a dose-dependent manner, which was independent of the endothelium. To further investigate the mechanism, we used the non-selective K+ channel blocker tetraethylammonium (TEA). TEA significantly abolished Phellinus linteus extract-induced vasodilation. Thus, we tested three different types of K+ channel blockers: iberiotoxin (BKca channel blocker), apamin (SKca channel blocker), and charybdotoxin (IKca channel blocker). Charybdotoxin significantly inhibited Phellinus linteus extract-induced relaxation, while there was no effect from apamin and iberiotoxin. Membrane potential was measured using the voltage-sensitive dye bis-(1,3-dibutylbarbituric acid)-trimethine oxonol (DiBAC4(3)) in the primary isolated vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). We found that the Phellinus linteus extract induced hyperpolarization of VSMCs, which is associated with a reduced phosphorylation level of 20 KDa myosin light chain (MLC20)
