AIM: To research the application of scleral flap suture in trabeculectomy. <p>METHODS: Totally 114 primary angle-closure glaucoma patients, aged from 36-72 years old, were selected as the objects, and randomly divided into research group and control group. The two groups received different administration methods. Traditional sewing method of sclera flap was used in research group and improved sewing method of sclera flap was used in control group. <p>RESULTS: There was statistical differences between postoperative intraocular pressure of the patients in the observation group and the control group after 1d; 2wk; 1, 3mo(<i>P</i><0.05). There was no statistical difference in intraocular pressure between the two groups. There was statistical differences between incidence of shallow anterior chamber of the patients in the observation group and the control group postoperatively early stage(<i>P</i><0.05). After 6mo, the filtering bleb formation in observation group was no significantly better than control group(<i>P</i>>0.05).<p>CONCLUSION: It is safe and effective that the improved sewing method of sclera flap for trabeculectomy of acute angle-closure glaucoma, and it is a better method to avoid the occurrence of shallow anterior chamber than the traditional sewing method in the early stage after operation

Physical Origin of Current Partition at a Topological Trifurcation

In gated bilayer graphene, topological zero-line modes (ZLMs) appear along lines separating regions with opposite valley Hall topologies. Although it is experimentally difficult to design the electric gates to realize ZLMs due to the extremely challenging techniques, twisted bilayer graphene provides a natural platform to produce ZLMs in the presence of uniform electric field. In this Letter, we develop a set of wavepacket dynamics, which can be utilized to characterize various gapless edge modes and can quantitatively reproduce the electronic transport properties at topological intersections. To our surprise, in the minimally twisted bilayer graphene where a topological trifurcation intersection naturally arises, we show that the counterintuitive current partition (i.e., the direct transport propagation) originates from the microscopic mechanism "bypass jump". Our method can be applied to understand the microscopic pictures of the electronic transport features of all kinds of topological states

Urine Organic Acids as Potential Biomarkers for Autism-Spectrum Disorder in Chinese Children

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that lacks clear biological biomarkers. Existing diagnostic methods focus on behavioral and performance characteristics, which complicates the diagnosis of patients younger than 3 years-old. The purpose of this study is to characterize metabolic features of ASD that could be used to identify potential biomarkers for diagnosis and exploration of ASD etiology. We used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) to evaluate major metabolic fluctuations in 76 organic acids present in urine from 156 children with ASD and from 64 non-autistic children. Three algorithms, Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), were used to develop models to distinguish ASD from typically developing (TD) children and to detect potential biomarkers. In an independent testing set, full model of XGBoost with all 76 acids achieved an AUR of 0.94, while reduced model with top 20 acids discovered by voting from these three algorithms achieved 0.93 and represent a good collection of potential ASD biomarkers. In summary, urine organic acids detection with GC/MS combined with XGBoost algorithm could represent a novel and accurate strategy for diagnosis of autism and the discovered potential biomarkers could be valuable for future research on the pathogenesis of autism and possible interventions

A Leaf Recognition Algorithm for Plant Classification Using Probabilistic Neural Network

In this paper, we employ Probabilistic Neural Network (PNN) with image and data processing techniques to implement a general purpose automated leaf recognition algorithm. 12 leaf features are extracted and orthogonalized into 5 principal variables which consist the input vector of the PNN. The PNN is trained by 1800 leaves to classify 32 kinds of plants with an accuracy greater than 90%. Compared with other approaches, our algorithm is an accurate artificial intelligence approach which is fast in execution and easy in implementation.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 2 table

Intraoperative Neuromonitoring During Resection of Gliomas Involving Eloquent Areas

    Get PDF
In the case of resection of gliomas involving eloquent areas, equal consideration should be given to maintain maximal extent of resection (EOR) and neurological protection, for which the intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) proves an effective and admirable approach. IONM techniques applied in clinical practice currently consist of somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP), direct electrical stimulation (DES), motor evoked potential (MEP), electromyography (EMG), and electrocorticography (ECoG). The combined use of DES and ECoG has been adopted widely. With the development of technology, more effective IONM tactics and programs would be proposed. The ultimate goal would be strengthening the localization of eloquent areas and epilepsy foci, reducing the incidence of postoperative dysfunction and epilepsy improving the life quality of patients

    Monopole-charged pulsars and relevant issues

The aligned pulsars whose rotation axes and magnetic dipole axes are parallel should be positively charged. The total charge of pulsars is calculated after considering the electromagnetic field in and out the star under a specific condition. The statistical relation between the pulsar's rotation energy loss rate (or the period derivative) and the period may hint that the millisecond radio pulsars with small periods could be low-mass bare strange stars.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figures, and 1 tabl
