Estimating private provision of public goods with heterogenous participants: a structural analysis

This paper estimates a structural model of private provision of public goods to provide some new empirical evidence on individuals' strategic contributing behaviors. In the model, individuals' contributing behaviors are allowed to be heterogenous and time-varying. We show that all the main components of the model including the number of different contributing strategies, functional form for each strategy, and how individuals adjust their strategies are identified from the revealed contribution choices of individuals. Further, the structural model is estimated using the data collected in a threshold public good experiment. The empirical results suggest that subjects in our experiment employ three contributing strategies, and they strategically respond to provision history by adjusting their preceding behavior. In addition, the response is heterogenous and dependent on subjects' contributing strategies

In order to explore the relationship between the critical bearing capacity and settlement of closed pile tip pierced into the soil, based on the Boussinesq solution and the Kelvin solution, the analytical solution between the critical bearing capacity and the critical settlement of the closed pile tip is derived by combining the stress distribution function. The analytical solution of critical bearing capacity and settlement of pile tip is verified by field test of static pressure pile penetrating into layered soil with a full-section pressure sensor installed at pile tip. The results show that during the penetration process, the bearing capacity increase stage of the pile tip is divided into linear steepening section and nonlinear slow increasing section. The soil in the linear steep increase section behaves as an elastic state. The bearing capacity of the pile tip before the punctured soil layer is linear with the settlement, and the final value of the linear steep increase section is the elastic limit value and the critical bearing capacity of the piercing pile tip. When the residual pile tip force is not considered, the critical settlement of the pile tip is between 0.095-0.119d; when considering the residual pile tip force, the critical settlement is between 0.091-0.105d. In particular, when the Poisson's ratio is 0.5, the analytical solution of the semi-infinite space is equivalent to the analytical solution of the infinite space

Interest-aware content discovery in peer-to-peer social networks.

With the increasing popularity and rapid development of Online Social Networks (OSNs), OSNs not only bring fundamental changes to information and communication technologies, but also make extensive and profound impact on all aspects of our social life. Efficient content discovery is a fundamental challenge for large-scale distributed OSNs. However, the similarity between social networks and online social networks leads us to believe that the existing social theories are useful for improving the performance of social content discovery in online social networks. In this paper, we propose an interest-aware social-like peer-to-peer (IASLP) model for social content discovery in OSNs by mimicking ten different social theories and strategies. In the IASLP network, network nodes with similar interests can meet, help each other and co-operate autonomously to identify useful contents. The presented model has been evaluated and simulated in a dynamic environment with an evolving network. The experimental results show that the recall of IASLP is 20% higher than the existing method SESD while the overhead is 10% lower. The IASLP can generate higher flexibility and adaptability and achieve better performance than the existing methods.UK-China Knowledge Economy Education Partnershi
