3β,11α-Dihydroxy-12-ursen-3-yl palmitate
In the title compound, C46H80O3, a natural ursane-type triperpenoid, four of the five six-membered rings adopt chair conformations; the fifth, which has a C=C double bond, adopts an approximate half-boat conformation. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [010]
Null Genotypes of GSTM1 and GSTT1 Contribute to Risk of Cervical Neoplasia: An Evidence-Based Meta-Analysis
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are multifunctional enzymes that play a key role in the detoxification of varieties of both endogenous products of oxidative stress and exogenous carcinogens. METHODS: In this meta-analysis, twenty-five studies were identified by searching PubMed, EMBASE, ISI Web of Science and CBM databases: 23 evaluated GSTM1 and 19 evaluated GSTT1. Crude odds ratios with corresponding 95% confidence intervals were used to estimate the association between GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms and risk of cervical neoplasia. Subgroup analyses were conducted by pathological history, ethnicity, source of DNA for genotyping, quality score, and matching variable. RESULTS: The null genotypes of GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms were associated with a significantly increased risk of cervical neoplasia (for GSTM1: OR = 1.40; 95%CI, 1.19-1.65; for GSTT1: OR = 1.30; 95%CI, 1.05-1.62, respectively). Subgroup analyses showed that the null genotype of GSTM1 increased the risk of cervical neoplasia in Asians, studies with DNA isolation from white blood cells and tissue samples, both high and low quality studies, and matched studies. In GSTM1-GSTT1 interaction analysis, individuals with dual null genotype were associated with a significantly increased risk of cervical neoplasia (OR = 1.72; 95%CI, 1.18-2.51). CONCLUSION: These findings indicate that GSTM1 and GSTT1 polymorphisms, particularly GSTM1-GSTT1 interaction, may play critical roles in the development of cervical neoplasia. A conservative manner should be adopted to interpret these results because of obvious heterogeneity between-study, unadjusted data, and relatively small sample size in this meta-analysis. Well designed studies with larger sample size are of great value to confirm these results
Yin-Cold
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies should be tailored according to the different syndrome types. In order to identify the relationship between the TCM Yin-cold (YC) or Yang-heat (YH) syndrome types and the EGFR gene status, we prospectively studied 310 NSCLC patients. TCM YH or YC was diagnosed by three TCM experts. TCM symptoms and signs were entered into a binary cluster analysis. The relationships between the EGFR gene status, YH or YC syndrome types, and classification by cluster analysis were analyzed using the chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression. In the 299 patients who had their EGFR gene tested, 45.24% YC (76/168) and 25.95% YH (34/131) patients had EGFR mutations (p=0.001). Among the 292 patients entered into the cluster analysis, 132 were classified into group A, with signs and symptoms similar to YC, whereas 160 group B patients were similar to YH. In the 281 patients with EGFR tested, 45.67% group A (58/127) and 28.57% group B patients (44/154) had EGFR mutations (p=0.003). The EGFR status was independently correlated with TCM syndrome type and classification by cluster analysis on multivariate logistic regression. NSCLC patients with YC were more likely to have EGFR gene mutations
The LAMOST Survey of Background Quasars in the Vicinity of the Andromeda and Triangulum Galaxies -- II. Results from the Commissioning Observations and the Pilot Surveys
We present new quasars discovered in the vicinity of the Andromeda and
Triangulum galaxies with the LAMOST during the 2010 and 2011 observational
seasons. Quasar candidates are selected based on the available SDSS, KPNO 4 m
telescope, XSTPS optical, and WISE near infrared photometric data. We present
509 new quasars discovered in a stripe of ~135 sq. deg from M31 to M33 along
the Giant Stellar Stream in the 2011 pilot survey datasets, and also 17 new
quasars discovered in an area of ~100 sq. deg that covers the central region
and the southeastern halo of M31 in the 2010 commissioning datasets. These 526
new quasars have i magnitudes ranging from 15.5 to 20.0, redshifts from 0.1 to
3.2. They represent a significant increase of the number of identified quasars
in the vicinity of M31 and M33. There are now 26, 62 and 139 known quasars in
this region of the sky with i magnitudes brighter than 17.0, 17.5 and 18.0
respectively, of which 5, 20 and 75 are newly-discovered. These bright quasars
provide an invaluable collection with which to probe the kinematics and
chemistry of the ISM/IGM in the Local Group of galaxies. A total of 93 quasars
are now known with locations within 2.5 deg of M31, of which 73 are newly
discovered. Tens of quasars are now known to be located behind the Giant
Stellar Stream, and hundreds behind the extended halo and its associated
substructures of M31. The much enlarged sample of known quasars in the vicinity
of M31 and M33 can potentially be utilized to construct a perfect astrometric
reference frame to measure the minute PMs of M31 and M33, along with the PMs of
substructures associated with the Local Group of galaxies. Those PMs are some
of the most fundamental properties of the Local Group.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figures, AJ accepte
Susceptibilities of Yersinia pestis to Twelve Antimicrobial Agents in China
Streptomycin is the preferred choice for therapy of plague in China and other countries. However, Yersinia pestis exhibiting plasmid-mediated antimicrobial agent–resistant traits had been reported in Madagascar. In this study, we evaluated the susceptibility of traditional or newer antimicrobial agents used for treatment and/or prophylaxis of plague. Following Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) recommendations, the susceptibility of 12 antimicrobial agents was evaluated by the agar microdilution method in 1,012 strains of Y. pestis isolated from 1943 to 2017 in 12 natural plague foci in China. One clinical Y. pestis isolate (S19960127) was found to be highly resistant to streptomycin, while the strain was still sensitive to other 11 antibiotics, that is, ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, kanamycin, chloramphenicol, ampicillin, ceftriaxone, cefuroxime, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, spectinomycin and moxifloxacin. The remaining 1,011 Y. pestis strains in this study demonstrated susceptibility to the above-mentioned 12 antimicrobial agents. Antimicrobial sensitivity surveillance of Y. pestis isolates, including dynamic monitoring of streptomycin resistance during various clinical plague treatments, should be carried out routinely
