A CASE STUDY OF THROWING MOTION OF A MALE PARA- SHORT STATURE JAVELIN THROWER
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the throwing motion of a male para- short stature javelin thrower (F41) in a real competition using the 3D DLT method, compared with male able-bodied javelin throwers as reference. At the 119th Nippon Sport Science University Athletic Meet (March 27, 2021), one para- athlete who participated in the men\u27s javelin throw was videotaped with two video cameras. The release parameters of javelin such as the initial velocity and projection angle at the release, and body segments angle were calculated for the only one trial, the best. The features of para-athlete were clarified by comparing them with the able-bodied javelin throwers (n=13) as reference. The release parameters of javelin showed that there was large difference in the horizontal velocity of javelin between the para-athlete and the reference throwers (12.59 and 19.35 m/s). The para-athlete of short stature in the present study showed the delayed withdrawal of the left leg at R-on, the delayed initiation of the rotation of the hips and trunk during throwing phase, and the left foot pointing to the right at L-on
The Second Survey of the Molecular Clouds in the Large Magellanic Cloud by NANTEN I: Catalog of Molecular Clouds
The second survey of the molecular clouds in 12CO (J = 1-0) was carried out
in the Large Magellanic Cloud by NANTEN. The sensitivity of this survey is
twice as high as that of the previous NANTEN survey, leading to a detection of
molecular clouds with M_CO > 2 x 10^4 M_sun. We identified 272 molecular
clouds, 230 of which are detected at three or more observed positions. We
derived the physical properties, such as size, line width, virial mass, of the
164 GMCs which have an extent more than the beam size of NANTEN in both the
major and minor axes. The CO luminosity and virial mass of the clouds show a
good correlation of M_VIR propto L_CO^{1.1 +- 0.1} with a Spearman rank
correlation of 0.8 suggesting that the clouds are in nearly virial equilibrium.
Assuming the clouds are in virial equilibrium, we derived an X_CO-factor to be
~ 7 x 10^20 cm^-2 (K km s^-1)^-1. The mass spectrum of the clouds is fitted
well by a power law of N_cloud(>M_CO) proportional to M_CO^{-0.75 +- 0.06}
above the completeness limit of 5 x 10^4 M_sun. The slope of the mass spectrum
becomes steeper if we fit only the massive clouds; e.g., N_cloud (>M_CO) is
proportional to M_CO^{-1.2 +- 0.2} for M_CO > 3 x 10^5 M_sun.Comment: 54 pages in total, 18 figures (21 files) and 4 tables, to appear in

食育プログラムの教育効果 : 食育プログラム実施前後の給食残量の変化
The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of a dietary education program implemented in the general studies classes of third-grade elementary school students. The amount of school lunch left over by all students at the school( N = 1,047) was measured. Then, the amounts left over by the 187 third-grade students who participated in the program( dietary education group) and the 860 students in grades 1, 2, 4,5, and 6 who did not participate in the program( non-dietary education group) were compared. Students in the dietary education group also completed a self-administered questionnaire about their awareness of leftover food and a survey in which they freely described their goals for the future following the dietary education program. The results showed that after the program, the proportion of school lunch that was left over was significantly lower for the dietary education group compared to the non-dietary education group. Among the students’ goals for the future, the most frequently mentioned goal was “Eat,” which had a strong concurrent relationship with “School lunch,” ”No leftovers,” and “Value.” The results suggested that the dietary education program effectively fostered an attitude of valuing food and encouraged students to reduce the amount of leftover food
Inactivation of Vibrio vulnificus hemolysin through mutation of the N- or C-terminus of the lectin-like domain
Vibrio vulnificus is an etiological agent causing serious systemic infections in the immunocompromised humans or cultured eels. This species commonly produces a hemolytic toxin consisting of the cytolysin domain and the lectin-like domain. For hemolysis, the lectin-like domain specifically binds to cholesterol in the erythrocyte membrane, and to form a hollow oligomer, the toxin is subsequently assembled on the membrane. The cytolysin domain is essential for the process to form the oligomer. Three-dimensional structure model revealed that two domains connected linearly and the C-terminus was located near to the joint of the domains. Insertion of amino acid residues between two domains was found to cause inactivation of the toxin. In the C-terminus, deletion, substitution or addition of an amino acid residue also elicited reduction of the activity. However, the cholesterol-binding ability was not affected by the mutations. These results suggest that mutation of the C- or N-terminus of the lectin-like domain may result in blockage of the toxin assembly

Disruption of entire Cables2 locus leads to embryonic lethality by diminished Rps21 gene expression and enhanced p53 pathway
In vivo function of CDK5 and Abl enzyme substrate 2 (Cables2), belonging to the Cables protein family, is unknown. Here, we found that targeted disruption of the entire Cables2 locus (Cables2d) caused growth retardation and enhanced apoptosis at the gastrulation stage and then induced embryonic lethality in mice. Comparative transcriptome analysis revealed disruption of Cables2, 50% down-regulation of Rps21 abutting on the Cables2 locus, and up-regulation of p53-target genes in Cables2d gastrulas. We further revealed the lethality phenotype in Rps21-deleted mice and unexpectedly, the exon 1-deleted Cables2 mice survived. Interestingly, chimeric mice derived from Cables2d ESCs carrying exogenous Cables2 and tetraploid wild-type embryo overcame gastrulation. These results suggest that the diminished expression of Rps21 and the completed lack of Cables2 expression are intricately involved in the embryonic lethality via the p53 pathway. This study sheds light on the importance of Cables2 locus in mouse embryonic development.Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research(B), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS KAKENHI 17H03568)
