    末梢血多核白血球の酸素消費能および付着能におよぼすノイロトロピンの影響

Effect of neurotropin (NSP) was studied on the oxygen consumption and adherence capacity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes of peripheral blood. Its therapeutic doses were found not to affect the phagocytic and adherent ability of leukocytes of healthy adults. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the respiration of leukocytes ceases much earlier in the presence of NSP than in its absence in a dose-dependent fashion, although the initial velocity of oxygen consumption associated with phagocytosis was unchanged. The fact that respiration tended to become normal when dialyzed neurotropin was used suggested that some inhibitory factors, which are dialyzable, are present in this preparation

In evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of gammaglobulin preparations in patients with agammaglobulinemia, opsonic activity of patients' sera in terms of oxygen consumption capacity of normal leukocytes is advocated as a useful index. Although the serum IgG level is a commonly used indicator, its determination alone was found out not always to reflect antibody levels in such sera. The method described here is simple and gives quantitative results and deserves a wider trial in controlling gammaglobulin replacement therapy. This work was supported in part by a Grant-in-Aid from the Japan Medical Research Foundation and Grants-in-Aid (Projects NO. 157253 and 544050) from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Japan

    Possible eosinophilic pneumonia from Alternaria

We reported a 15-year-old Japanese girl with possible eosinophilic pneumonia (EP) from inhaled Alternaria. She presented with a fever, cough and general fatigue and with a moderate infiltrate in the right lower to middle lung fields on a chest roentgenogram one week previously. On admission, the above infiltrate had disappeared, while a left upper infiltrate had appeared. Eosinophilic pneumonia (EP) was diagnosed by a cytological study of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and histology of a transbronchial lung biopsy. Skin test to and specific serum IgE antibody against Alternaria were both positive. An inhaled Alternaria challenge test showed both immediate and late phase allergic reactions as evidenced by %FEV1. In addition, Alternaria was significantly detected in all places of the patient's house. Alternaria could be a causative organism of EP and should always be considered one of its etiologic agents

Anti-allergic effect of apple polyphenol on patients with atopic dermatitis: A pilot study

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antiallergic effect of apple condensed tannins (ACT) in patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) as a pilot study. An ACT supplement given to the patients at oral doses of 10 mg/kg per day for 8 weeks reduced the inflammation, lichenification, cracking, itching, sleep disturbance and peripheral blood eosinophil counts. Itching and sleep disturbance scores after ACT supplement even for 2 weeks were significantly decreased compared with the control group. The results suggest that ACT has an anti-allergic effect and that its use improved the symptoms of AD
