Hybrid reconfigurable architecture for low power digital signal processing system

    No full text
This paper presents an architecture for a hybrid re-configurable device which is specifically optimized for acoustic applications. In the proposed architecture, Finegrained units are used for implementing control logic and bit-oriented operations, while parameterised and reconfigurable word-based coarse-grained units incorporating word-oriented lookup tables and fast fourier transformation (FFT) are used to implement datapaths. In order to facilitate comparison with existing FPGA devices, the virtual embedded block (WEB) scheme is proposed to model embedded blocks using existing FPGA tools. This methodology involves adopting existing FPGA resources to model the size, position and delay of the embedded elements. We show significant power reduction when comparing with existing reconfigurable device implementing the same acoustic applications. © 2010 IEEE.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

Semi-definite programming based approaches for real-time tractor location in port container terminals

    No full text
In order to effectively manage and deploy internal tractors in a port container marine terminal, real-time information concerning the location of the tractors is required so that timely scheduling and planning of tractors control and dispatching can be derived. This paper propose a wireless sensor network-based Truck Flow Management System (TFMS) to help tracking the real-time location of internal tractors in a container terminal so as to streamline the management of the terminal operation. Focusing on the real-time localization, the semi-definite programming (SDP) based approaches are employed by introducing the terminal context information, including prior known road constraints and available time-serial data recorded in the network, into the traditional SDP formulation. Experimental results are presented to show that the proposed formulation and treatments to the problem can greatly decrease the estimated errors compared to the traditional formulation

A hybrid solution to collaborative decision-making in a decentralized supply-chain

    No full text
This paper considers a decentralized supply chain, where multiple independent manufacturing facilities manage some capital-intensive equipments or resources shared among them. In particular, these manufacturing facilities operate somewhat in isolation to serve their own customers, but coordinate closely with each other to ensure the shared resources are effectively utilized. Such cross-facility capacity management problems are common in high-tech industries, they are typical examples of collaborative decision-making in supply chain integration, and are critical to create a competitive edge in a more interconnected business environment. In this paper, a hybrid algorithm that integrates Lagrangian relaxation and immunity-inspired coordination scheme, known as LR-ICI, is proposed and investigated by extensive numerical experiments, and is shown to be competitive compared to similar algorithms. © 2011 Elsevier B.V.
