The International Decision-Making and Travel Behavior of Graduates Participating in Working Holiday
After graduation, most graduates find themselves at a significant stage in their life as they have to decide between âfurther studyâ and âworking.â When faced with this confusion and uncertainty, a âworking holidayâ combining travel and work has coincidentally becomes a third option. This study employed a qualitative approach through literature review, in-depth interviews, and semi-structured interviews. The research revealed that graduates are influenced by âinternal personal thinkingâ and âexternal driving forcesâ when they embark on a working holiday. The former includes negative obstructions and positive stimulus. The latter factorâs stimulus includes attraction of natural landscapes, history and culture, learning foreign languages, safety concerns, difficulties in visa application, and the opportunity to obtain a salaried job. The process of embarking on a working holiday was complex and unpredictable. The traveling behavior of working holiday destinations included short-distance leisure behavior and long-distance traveling behavior. In terms of the influences of short-distance leisure behavior, graduates preferred being employed by service industries that had less working hours, flexible work arrangements and included the purchase of preferential price tickets. Graduatesâ long-distance traveling behavior was affected by the work they performed. The travel time was different between various industries
Hydrodynamical Simulations of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC 1097
NGC 1097 is a nearby barred spiral galaxy believed to be interacting with the
elliptical galaxy NGC 1097A located to its northwest. It hosts a Seyfert 1
nucleus surrounded by a circumnuclear starburst ring. Two straight dust lanes
connected to the ring extend almost continuously out to the bar. The other ends
of the dust lanes attach to two main spiral arms. To provide a physical
understanding of its structural and kinematical properties, two-dimensional
hydrodynamical simulations have been carried out. Numerical calculations reveal
that many features of the gas morphology and kinematics can be reproduced
provided that the gas flow is governed by a gravitational potential associated
with a slowly rotating strong bar. By including the self-gravity of the gas
disk in our calculation, we have found the starburst ring to be gravitationally
unstable which is consistent with the observation in \citet{hsieh11}. Our
simulations show that the gas inflow rate is 0.17 M_\sun yr into the
region within the starburst ring even after its formation, leading to the

Synthesis and Characterization of Two-Dimensional Conjugated Polymers Incorporating Electron-Deficient Moieties for Application in Organic Photovoltaics
A series of novel p-type conjugated copolymers, PTTVBDT, PTTVBDT-TPD, and PTTVBDT-DPP, cooperating benzo[1,2-b:4,5-bâČ]dithiophene (BDT) and terthiophene-vinylene (TTV) units with/without thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) or pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4-dione (DPP) via Stille polymerization were synthesized and characterized. Copolymer PTTVBDT shows a low-lying HOMO energy level and ordered molecular-packing behavior. Furthermore, two terpolymers, PTTVBDT-TPD and PTTVBDT-DPP, display stronger absorption ability, alower-lying HOMO energy level, and preferred molecular orientation, due to the replacement TTV-monomer units with electron-deficient groups. Furthermore, bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells were fabricated using blends of the PTTVBDT-TPD, and PC_(61)BM gave the best power conversion efficiency of 5.01% under the illumination of AM 1.5G, 100 mW·cm^(â2); the short circuit current (J_(sc)) was 11.65 mA·cm^(â2) which displayed a 43.8% improvement in comparison with the PTTVBDT/PC_(61)BM device. These results demonstrate a valid strategy combining the two-dimensional molecular structure with random copolymerization strikes promising conjugated polymers to achieve highly efficient organic photovoltaics
Climatology and Change of Extreme Precipitation Events in Taiwan Based on Weather Types
Taiwan\u27s most significant natural hazards are caused by hydrological extremes resulting from excessive precipitation. The threat of extreme precipitation is posed by several different types of weather patterns that affect Taiwan. This study examined the biâdecadal changes in rainfall by defining an extreme precipitation occurrence (EPO) for a range of event durations from 1 to 24âhr. Three major weather types affecting EPO in Taiwan were identified from 1993 to 2015: the front type consisting of either a frontal zone or convective systems developing with an apparent Meiyu cloudband, diurnal rainfall events when no apparent synoptic features are present, and a tropical cyclone (TC) type according to the maximum sustained wind radius of a TC. Results show that TCâtype events have the greatest overall contribution to EPO at longer (\u3e6 hr) durations. Diurnal/afternoon convection events contribute most to the shorter (\u3c3 hr) duration EPO, while frontal/Meiyu systems prevail in the medium (3â6 hr) duration. EPO of almost all durations have experienced an increase, with the 3â and 12âhr EPO having increased by 4.6 days each over the 23âyears. However, apparent decadalâscale variability exists in these EPO associated with the decreasing tendency of EPO after the midâ2000s, particularly the longer duration (\u3e6 hr) EPO associated with the TCâtype events in summer. The distinction between EPO trends for the entire island of Taiwan and for the Taipei metropolitan area alone (northern Taiwan, population of 7 million) were compared, and an intriguing interannual variation is reported in the TCâtype EPO associated with the TC season 1âyear to a year and half just before an El NiñoâSouthern Oscillation event. The analysis here provides refined statistical distributions of extreme rainfall, and these can contribute to the revision of governmental definitions for weather disasters that are used in mitigation and response strategies
