Observation on the adverse reactions of different concentrations of povidone-iodine applied before cataract surgery
AIM: To evaluate the efficiency and safety of 50g/L povidone-iodine solution in preventing postoperative endophthalmitis through comparing the incidence of postoperative endophthalmitis and adverse reactions after conjunctival sac washing with povidone-iodine of different concentrations.
METHODS: Totally 500 cataract patients were divided into 50g/L povidone-iodine group and 25g/L povidone-iodine group. All the operated eyes were observed during and after surgery. The patients' subjective discomfort was inquired and their signs of eyes were recorded.
RESULTS: The eye irritation of 50g/L povidone-iodine group was more significant than 25g/L povidone-iodine group. No significant difference in the corneal epithelial loss and endophthalmitis was observed between two groups.
CONCLUSION:Conjunctival sac washing with 50g/L povidone-iodine is an effective and safe measure to prevent endophthalmitis after cataract surgery
Application of anastomosis with dacryocystotomy and retrograde intubation in treatment of traumatic lacrimal canaliculi laceration
AIM: To discuss the application of anastomosis in traumatic lacrimal canaliculi laceration.
METHODS: Totally 21 patients of which nasal end can not be found out were treated with anastomosis combined dacryocystotomy and retrograde intubation.
RESULTS: All the patients were followed up postoperatively for 1 year to 2 years. The total effective rate was 95.2%.
CONCLUSION: The anastomosis with dacryocystotomy and retrograde intubation is a affirmative and available method in treatment of traumatic lacrimal canaliculi laceration
Inhibition of Arterial Allograft Intimal Hyperplasia Using Recipient Dendritic Cells Pretreated with B7 Antisense Peptide
Background. Low expression or absence of dendritic cell (DC) surface B7 molecules can induce immune tolerance or hyporesponse. Whether DCs could induce indirect allogeneic-specific cross-tolerance or hyporesponse to recipient T cells remains unclear. Methods. Generated from C3H/He mice bone marrow cells pulsed with donor antigen from C57BL/6 mice, recipient DCs were incubated with B7 antisense peptide (B7AP). Immune regulatory activities were examined in vitro by a series of mixed lymphocyte reactions. Murine allogeneic carotid artery orthotopic transplantation was performed from C57BL/6 to C3H/He. Recipients were given B7AP-treated DCs 7 days before transplantation. Allograft pathological analysis was done 2 months after transplantation. Results. B7AP-pretreated DCs markedly inhibited T-cell proliferation compared with untreated group. Pretreated T cells exhibited markedly reduced response to alloantigen versus third-party antigen. Pathological analysis of arterial allografts demonstrated significant reduction of intimal hyperplasia in B7-AP pretreated group versus control. Conclusion. Blockade of B7 molecules by B7AP could induce indirect allogeneic-specific hyporesponse and inhibit arterial allograft intimal hyperplasia, which may be involved in future strategies for human allograft chronic rejection
Possible Influences on Ammonia Nitrogen Determination by Nessler's Reagent Spectrophotometry
Nessler's reagent spectrophotometry is the traditional method for ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) determination, which is adopted in the national standard of the People's Republic of China (HJ 535-2009). In order to improve the accuracy of such method, possible influences, Nessler's Reagent preparation, pH value of the solution, metal ions, organic solvents and natural organic matters, on NH3-N determination were discussed. The results suggested that the method B, employing KI, HgI2 and NaOH, is preferred in Nessler's Reagent preparation. And the Nessler's Reagent Spectrophotometry may be executed over a wide pH range (4-11). The metal ions, organic solvents and natural organic matters have significant influences in NH3-N detection. Potassium zinc borate, KZnB3O6
The title compound, KZnB3O6 contains a remarkable [B6O12]6− group ( symmetry) formed by two rings linked by edge-sharing BO4 tetrahedra, a feature that has only been observed previously under high pressure conditions. These borate groups are connected through distorted ZnO4 tetrahedra in edge-shared pairs ( symmetry), forming a three-dimensional network whose cavities are filled by K+ cations
