    Event driven dynamic web pages

    Web technologies are among the most rapid developing areas. They continue to evolve from HTML, DHTML, JavaScript to CGI, ASP, JSP, Servlet. However the life of web developers is still not so easy as traditional GUI programmer. The web developers should very clear about communications between browsers and web servers, which puts a great burden on the web developers. In the project, an Event Driven Model is extended to web servers based on Servlet technology. With this Event Driven Model, the web developers are totally transparent to the communication details. The development of web pages becomes similar as GUI programming, describing the content of web pages and binding event handler functions to Html objects. The Event Driven Model is implemented by applying Document Object Model (DOM) and constructing HTML tree Objects on server side to server get and post requests from browsers. There are two approaches in this project. One is pure Java approach, which describes HTML contents and event handler functions in the same Java file. The other one separates the HTML contents in a XML file, while only event handler functions are defined in Java files. The whole project includes a forward servlet, coordinating between the web server and event driven web pages, and a Html Elements class library helping to construct Html tree

    Cyclin F Is Degraded during G2-M by Mechanisms Fundamentally Different from Other Cyclins

    Cyclin F, a cyclin that can form SCF complexes and bind to cyclin B, oscillates in the cell cycle with a pattern similar to cyclin A and cyclin B. Ectopic expression of cyclin F arrests the cell cycle in G2/M. How the level of cyclin F is regulated during the cell cycle is completely obscure. Here we show that, similar to cyclin A, cyclin F is degraded when the spindle assembly checkpoint is activated and accumulates when the DNA damage checkpoint is activated. Cyclin F is a very unstable protein throughout much of the cell cycle. Unlike other cyclins, degradation of cyclin F is independent of ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated pathways. Interestingly, proteolysis of cyclin F is likely to involve metalloproteases. Rapid destruction of cyclin F does not require the N-terminal F-box motif but requires the COOH-terminal PEST sequences. The PEST region alone is sufficient to interfere with the degradation of cyclin F and confer instability when fused to cyclin A. These data show that although cyclin F is degraded at similar time as the mitotic cyclins, the underlying mechanisms are entirely distinct

    Safety and efficacy of intracoronary artery administration of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells in STEMI of Lee-Sung pigs—A preclinical study for supporting the feasibility of the OmniMSC-AMI phase I clinical trial

    BackgroundThis study tested whether early left intracoronary arterial (LAD) administration of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMMSCs, called OmniMSCs) in acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) of Lee-Sung pigs induced by 90 min balloon-occluded LAD was safe and effective.Methods and resultsYoung male Lee-Sung pigs were categorized into SC (sham-operated control, n = 3), AMI-B (STEMI + buffer/21 cc/administered at 90 min after STEMI, n = 6), and AMI-M [acute myocardial infarction (AMI) + hBMMSCs/1.5 × 107/administered at 90 min after STEMI, n = 6] groups. By 2 and 5 months after STEMI, the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated that the muscle scar score (MSS) and abnormal cardiac muscle exercise score in the infarct region were significantly increased in the AMI-B than in the SC group that were significantly reversed in the AMI-M group, whereas the left ventricular ejection function by each month (from 1 to 5) displayed an opposite pattern of MSS among the groups (all p < 0.001). By 5 months, histopathological findings of infarct and fibrosis areas and isolectin-B4 exhibited an identical pattern, whereas the cellular expressions of troponin-I/troponin-T/von Willebrand factor exhibited an opposite pattern of MSS among the groups (all p < 0.001). The ST-segment resolution (>80%) was significantly earlier (estimated after 6-h AMI) in the AMI-M group than in the AMI-B group (p < 0.001). The protein expressions of inflammation (IL-1β/TNF-α/NF-κB)/oxidative stress (NOX-1/NOX-2/oxidized protein)/apoptosis (cleaved caspase-3/cleaved PARP)/DNA damage (γ-H2AX) displayed an identical pattern to MSS among the groups, whereas the protein expressions of angiogenesis factors (SDF-1α/VEGF) were significantly and progressively increased from SC, AMI-B, to AMI-M groups (all p < 0.001).ConclusionEarly intra-LAD transfusion of OmniMSC treatment effectively reduced the infarct size and preserved LV function in porcine STEMI

    Vision-Based Reactive Planning and Control of Quadruped Robots in Unstructured Dynamic Environments

    Quadruped robots have received increasing attention for the past few years. However, existing works primarily focus on static environments or assume the robot has full observations of the environment. This limits their practical applications since real-world environments are often dynamic and partially observable. To tackle these issues, vision-based reactive planning and control (V-RPC) is developed in this work. The V-RPC comprises two modules: offline pre-planning and online reactive planning. The pre-planning phase generates a reference trajectory over continuous workspace via sampling-based methods using prior environmental knowledge, given an LTL specification. The online reactive module dynamically adjusts the reference trajectory and control based on the robot's real-time visual perception to adapt to environmental changes

    A GPU-Parallelized Interpolation-Based Fast Multipole Method for the Relativistic Space-Charge Field Calculation

    The fast multipole method (FMM) has received growing attention in the beam physics simulation. In this study, we formulate an interpolation-based FMM for the computation of the relativistic space-charge field. Different to the quasi-electrostatic model, our FMM is formulated in the lab-frame and can be applied without the assistance of the Lorentz transformation. In particular, we derive a modified admissibility condition which can effectively control the interpolation error of the proposed FMM. The algorithms and their GPU parallelization are discussed in detail. A package containing serial and GPU-parallelized solvers is implemented in the Julia programming language. The GPU-parallelized solver can reach a speedup of more than a hundred compared to the execution on a single CPU core.Comment: 30 pages, 10 figure

    Variations in the East Asian summer monsoon over the past 1 millennium and their links to the Tropic Pacific and North 2 Atlantic oceans

    Variations of East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) during the last millennium could help enlighten the monsoonal response to future global warming. Here we present a precisely dated and highly resolved stalagmite δ18O record from the Yongxing Cave, central China. Our new record, combined with a previously published one from the same cave, indicates that the EASM has changed dramatically in association with the global temperature rising. In particular, our record shows that the EASM has intensified during the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA) and the Current Warm Period (CWP) but weakened during the Little Ice Age (LIA). We find that the EASM intensity is similar during the MCA and CWP periods in both northern and central China, but relatively stronger during the CWP in southern China. This discrepancy indicates a complicated regional response of the EASM to the anthropogenic forcing. The intensified and weakened EASM during the MCA and LIA matches well with the warm and cold phases of Northern Hemisphere surface air temperature, respectively. This EASM pattern also corresponds well with the rainfall over the tropical Indo-Pacific warm pool. Surprisingly, our record shows a strong association with the North Atlantic climate as well. The intensified (weakened) EASM correlates well with positive (negative) phases of North Atlantic Oscillation. In addition, our record links well with the strong (weak) Atlantic meridional overturning circulation during the MCA (LIA) period. All above-mentioned correlations indicate that the EASM tightly couples with oceanic processes in the tropical Pacific and North Atlantic oceans during the MCA and LIA
