    Course profiling system

Course Profiling System (CPS) is a document management system for self-evaluation of first degree programmes at Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs). The framework provides systematic compliancy-checking of curriculum design with the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)Minimal Standards; and a more holistic view of the programme and its constituent courses. The novelty is the system’s design that reduces efforts and errors inherent in manual process.Apart of serving as a repository and retrieval of course profiles, CPS is also a platform for managing and monitoring the quality of PHEI’s programme for application and upkeep of MQA accreditation or renewa

How Confident are we With Polarisation Based Diagnostics for Transformer Condition Assessment?

    Get PDF
Preventative diagnosis of transformers has become an important issue in recent times in order to improve the reliability of electric power systems. A number of diagnostic techniques such as Return Voltage (RV), Polarization/Depolarisation Current (PDC) and Dielectric Dissipation Factor (tan .) measurements at low frequency are currently available for practicing engineers. This paper outlines the summary of these techniques and a case study with all these measurements. Then the difficulties with the interpretation techniques are highlighted along with the recommendation of an expert system previously developed by the first author of this paper

Experience With Dielectric Response Measurements On Oil-Paper Insulated Cables

Deterioration of the underground power cables insulation has been established to be caused by electrical, thermal and environmental stresses. With the degradation of dielectric strength of the insulation, the underground cables will not be able to function optimally or as planned. As a supplement to the existing dissipation factor and other conventional cable diagnostic measurements, the Decay Voltage (DV) and the Return Voltage (RV) measurement technologies are currently being proposed for nondestructive diagnosis of cable insulation. The main purpose of this paper is to present results from laboratory measurements of DV, RV and Polarisation and Depolarisation Current (PDC) on a number of samples of oil-impregnated paper insulated cables. Comparison of these results has also been made with the conventional dissipation factor measurement data for the same cables

Fire Propagation Performance of Intumescent Fire Protective Coatings Using Eggshells as a Novel Biofiller

This paper aims to synthesize and characterize an effective intumescent fire protective coating that incorporates eggshell powder as a novel biofiller. The performances of thermal stability, char formation, fire propagation, water resistance, and adhesion strength of coatings have been evaluated. A few intumescent flame-retardant coatings based on these three ecofriendly fire retardant additives ammonium polyphosphate phase II, pentaerythritol and melamine mixed together with flame-retardant fillers, and acrylic binder have been prepared and designed for steel. The fire performance of the coatings has conducted employing BS 476: Part 6-Fire propagation test. The foam structures of the intumescent coatings have been observed using field emission scanning electron microscopy. On exposure, the coated specimens’ B, C, and D had been certified to be Class 0 due to the fact that their fire propagation indexes were less than 12. Incorporation of ecofriendly eggshell, biofiller into formulation D led to excellent performance in fire stopping (index value, (I)=4.3) and antioxidation of intumescent coating. The coating is also found to be quite effective in water repellency, uniform foam structure, and adhesion strength

An Analysis of Individual Tax Morale for Russia: Before and After Flat Tax Reform

    Get PDF
This paper examines individual tax morale in Russia before and after the introduction of flat tax reform in 2001. The World Values (WVS) and European Values Survey (EVS) are used to compare individual tax morale in 1999, 2006 and 2011. An ordered probit regression model is applied to study the effects of socio-demographic and institutional variables on individual tax morale. A new variable for employment sector that appeared in 2006 and 2011 values surveys is included in our model. The probit regression results revealed significant coefficients for income scale and the employment sector variables with negative marginal effects on tax morale. Socio-demographic variables have varying effects on tax morale while institutional variables are positively related to individual tax morale for the three years. To detect linear trend associations, Mantel-Haenszel hypothesis test results indicate that individual tax morale for Russia has not changed in the years before and after flat tax reform

Scaffolds and design factors to increase creative outcomes in teaching Software Design and Testing

Graduates are expected to be able to provide holistic solutions, capable of meeting diverse objectives simultaneously. We aim to investigate how students would conceptualize, make sense, desire to know, find solutions and subsequently progress to collaborate, communicate and create new artefacts. We hypothesize that there would be a higher likelihood of better quality design process, explanations as well as modelling outcomes if first, students can relate between the ability to analyse problems with the ability to conceptualize/model and second, the design of the task focuses on not only functional but more importantly sustaining positive user experience. Findings highlight the importance of key design factors contributing to more creative outcomes
