The aging population has become an issue that cannot be ignored, and research on aging is receiving increasing attention. PL 1-3 possesses diverse pharmacological properties including anti-oxidative stress, inhibits inflammatory responses and anti-apoptosis. This study showed that PL 1-3 could protect mice, especially the brain, against the aging caused by D-galactose (D-gal). D-gal could cause oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and tissue pathological injury and so on in aging mice. The treatment of PL 1-3 could increase the anti-oxidative stress ability in the serum, liver, kidney and brain of aging mice, via increasing the total antioxidant capacity and the levels of anti-oxidative defense enzymes (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase), and reducing the end product of lipid peroxidation (malondialdehyde). In the brain, in addition to the enhanced anti-oxidative stress via upregulating the level of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 and heme oxygenase 1, PL 1-3 could improve the dysfunction of the cholinergic system via reducing the active of acetylcholinesterase so as to increase the level of acetylcholine, increase the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptosis activities via downregulating the expressions of pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α) and pro-apoptosis proteins (Bcl-2 associated X protein and Caspase-3) in the D-gal-induced aging mice, to enhance the anti-aging ability via upregulating the expression of sirtuin 1 and downregulating the expressions of p53, p21, and p16. Besides, PL 1-3 could reverse the liver, kidney and spleen damages induced by D-gal in aging mice. These results suggested that PL 1-3 may be developed as an anti-aging drug for the prevention and intervention of age-related diseases

A lab-scale biofilter packed with mixed packing materials was used for degradation of toluene. Different empty bed residence times, 148.3, 74.2 and 49.4 s, were tested for inlet concentration ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 g/m3. The maximum elimination capacity of 36.0 g/(m3 h) occurred at an inlet loading rate of 45.9 g/(m3 h). The contribution of the lower layer was higher than other layers and always had the highest elimination capacity. The carbon dioxide production rate and distribution of micro-organisms followed toluene elimination capacities. The results of this study indicated that mixed packing materials could be considered as a potential biofilter carrier, with low pressure drop (less than 84.9 Pa/m), for treating air streams containing VOCs

Study on the Mechanism of SO2 Poisoning of MnOx/PG for Lower Temperature SCR by Simple Washing Regeneration

    No full text
Manganese oxide-supported palygorskite (MnOx/PG) catalysts are considered highly efficient for low-temperature SCR of NOx. However, the MnOx/PG catalyst tends to be poisoned by SO2. The effect of SO2 on activity of the SO2-pretreated poisoning catalysts under ammonia-free conditions was explored. It was determined that the MnOx/PG catalyst tends to be considerably deactivated by SO2 in the absence of ammonia and that water-washed regeneration can completely recover activity of the deactivated catalyst. Based on these results and characterizations of the catalysts, a reasonable mechanism for the deactivation of MnOx/PG catalyst by SO2 was proposed in this study. SO2 easily oxidized to SO3 on the surface of the catalyst, leading to the formation of polysulfuric acid, wrapping of the active component and blocking the micropores. The deactivation of the MnOx/PG catalyst is initially caused by the formation of polysulfuric rather than the deposition of ammonia sulfate, which occurs later

Since 2020, with in-depth research on the Shuangji structural belt in the Jimsar Depression, Junggar Basin and high-yield oil flow data obtained from the Triassic Jingjingzigou Formation in the Well Satan 1, it has been demonstrated that the Jimsar and Jinan depressions have promising potential for conventional oil and gas exploration. Objective To further study the geological characteristics and exploration potential of the Jimsar and Jinan depressions, Methods this paper comprehensively analyses data from core samples, logging, well logging, and seismic surveys; identifies regional unconformities; categorizes different tectonic stages; and establishes the correlation between tectonic and stratigraphic evolution. Based on this, the development process of each stratum is restored, and the coupling relationship between tectonics and the evolution of uplift and depression within the research area is established, and the prototype basin is restored. Results This study revealed five large unconformities in the Jimsar and Jinan depressions, which have undergone four episodes of tectonic activity. The stratigraphic evolution characteristics of the study area ranged from "north high and south low" in the Early Permian to "south high and north low" in the Palaeogene and Neogene. The original basin also changed from a "multiconvex and multiconcave" pattern in the Early Permian to a "few convex and large concave" structural pattern in the Palaeogene and Neogene. Conclusion The establishment of the coupling relationship between tectonics and the evolution of uplift and depression at different times and the restoration of the prototype basin during each period lays an important foundation for clarifying the basin characteristics of the Jimsar and Jinan depressions during different periods and helps to enhances oil and gas exploration in these areas

Enhanced extracellular production of laccase in Coprinopsis cinerea by silencing chitinase gene

Laccase, a copper-containing polyphenol oxidase, is an important green biocatalyst. In this study, Laccase Lcc5 was homologous recombinantly expressed in Coprinopsis cinerea and a novel strategy of silencing chitinase gene expression was used to enhance recombinant Lcc5 extracellular yield. Two critical chitinase genes, ChiEn1 and ChiE2, were selected by analyzing the transcriptome data of C. cinerea FA2222, and their silent expression was performed by RNA interference (RNAi). It was found that silencing either ChiEn1 or ChiE2 reduced sporulation and growth rate, and increased cell wall sensitivity, but had no significant effect on mycelial branching. Among them, the extracellular laccase activity of the ChiE2-silenced engineered strain Cclcc5-antiChiE2-5 and the control Cclcc5-13 reached the highest values (38.2 and 25.5 U/mL, respectively) at 250 and 150 rpm agitation speeds, corresponding to productivity of 0.35 and 0.19 U/mL·h, respectively, in a 3-L fermenter culture. Moreover, since Cclcc5-antiChiE2-5 could withstand greater shear forces, its extracellular laccase activity was 2.6-fold higher than that of Cclcc5-13 when the agitation speed was all at 250 rpm. To our knowledge, this is the first report of enhanced recombinant laccase production in C. cinerea by silencing the chitinase gene. This study will pave the way for laccase industrial production and accelerate the development of a C. cinerea high-expression system. KEY POINTS: • ChiEn1 and ChiE2 are critical chitinase genes in C. cinerea FA2222 genome. • Chitinase gene silencing enhanced the tolerance of C. cinerea to shear forces. • High homologous production of Lcc5 is achieved by fermentation in a 3-L fermenter
