Abstract. In the framework of the HIPPI project a 3D linac code comparison and benchmarking program have been initiated. Particular attention is devoted to the validation of the space charge solvers, comparing the calculated electric field of a common initial distribution with a semi-analytical solution. In order to study the effects of numerical noise on the single particle dynamics, also the calculated single particle tune is compared with an analytical prediction. Particle tracking is eventually compared using the lattice of UNILAC DTL section, in preparation of validation with experimental emittance measurements to be carried out in the next two years
