ObjectivesThe study aimed at examining the combined association of socioeconomic status (SES) and diet diversity (DD) with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and exploring whether DD played a mediating role in the relationship between varied SES and HRQoL among Chinese older persons.MethodA multi-stage random sampling method was conducted in Shanxi Province of China, with 3,250 older adults participating in this cross-sectional survey. SES was divided into groups by quartiles and DD by means, and these variable groups were combined in pairs to generate a total of eight combinations. The PROCESS macro developed by Hayes was employed for the simple mediation analysis.ResultsCompared with the reference group (those with both high SES and high DD), older adults who were classified to have lower SES or DD had elevated odds of having worse HRQoL: low SES/ low DD (OR = 1.65, 95% CI 1.41–2.92); low SES/ high DD (OR = 1.45, 95% CI 1.17–1.80); middle low SES/ low DD (OR = 1.43, 95% CI 1.24–1.65); middle low SES/ high DD (OR = 1.23, 95% CI 1.03–1.47); upper high SES/ low DD (OR = 1.41, 95% CI 1.21–1.65); and high SES/ low DD (OR = 1.30, 95%CI 1.10–1.53). The mediation analysis revealed that DD mediated the relationship between SES and HRQoL (B=0.011, 95% CI 0.008–0.013), with its indirect effects accounting for 39.29% of the total effects.ConclusionsThese findings highlighted the role of DD as a mediator of the relationship between SES and HRQoL. As DD could be protective, modifiable, and easy for older adults to understand and implement, village clinics and community health stations should work collaboratively to design proper DD intervention measures for better HRQoL

The research aimed to study an Avian polyomavirus strain that was isolated in Shandong, China. To study the pathogenicity of APV in SPF chickens, and provide references for epidemiological research and disease prevention and control of APV. The genetic characterization of APV strain (termed APV-20) was analyzed and the pathogenicity of APV was investigated from two aspects: different age SPF chickens, and different infection doses. The results revealed that the APV-20 exhibits a nucleotide homology of 99% with the other three APV strains, and the evolution of APV In China was slow. In addition, the APV-20 infection in chickens caused depression, drowsiness, clustering, and fluffy feathers, but no deaths occurred in the infected chickens. The main manifestations of necropsy, and Hematoxylin and Eosin staining (HE) showed that one-day-old SPF chickens were the most susceptible, and there was a positive correlation between viral load and infection dose in the same tissue. This study showed that SPF chickens were susceptible to APV, and an experimental animal model was established. This study can provide a reference for the pathogenic mechanism of immune prevention and control of APV

A Novel q-Rung Dual Hesitant Fuzzy Multi-Attribute Decision-Making Method Based on Entropy Weights

In this paper, a new multiple attribute decision-making (MADM) method under q-rung dual hesitant fuzzy environment from the perspective of aggregation operators is proposed. First, some aggregation operators are proposed for fusing q-rung dual hesitant fuzzy sets (q-RDHFSs). Afterwards, we present properties and some desirable special cases of the new operators. Second, a new entropy measure for q-RDHFSs is developed, which defines a method to calculate the weight information of aggregated q-rung dual hesitant fuzzy elements. Third, a novel MADM method is introduced to deal with decision-making problems under q-RDHFSs environment, wherein weight information is completely unknown. Finally, we present numerical example to show the effectiveness and performance of the new method. Additionally, comparative analysis is conducted to prove the superiorities of our new MADM method. This study mainly contributes to a novel method, which can help decision makes select optimal alternatives when dealing with practical MADM problems

Novel porphyrin Schiff bases were synthesized by a simple Schiff base condensation in refluxing toluene between 5-(4-aminophenyl)-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrin (ATTP) 3 and styryl aldehydes 4–6 or p-halobenzaldehydes 7–9. The newly synthesized porphyrin Schiff bases were characterized on the basis of their chemical properties and spectral data. A good intramolecular energy transfer from the styryl unit to the porphyrin moiety was found

The relationship between microsatellite polymorphism and body weight of captive bred Chinese sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus was investigated in two local populations in Dalian. Among ten loci discovered, nine show changes except for AJ07 loci. Seven loci were found highly polymorphic in both populations. For each locus in two populations, the average number of alleles is 6.428 6 and 6.285 7, the average observed heterozygosity at 0.225 7 and 0.245 9, the expected heterozygosity at 0.776 8 and 0.748 8, the polymorphism information content (PIC) at 0.709 2 and 0.674 6, respectively. Further analysis show significant correlation between A. japonicus body weight and occurrence markers AJ02 and AJ04. The findings of the relation may be helpful for molecular breeding, as well as the marker-assisted selection of sea cucumbers

NMR Detection and Structural Modeling of the Ethylene Receptor LeETR2 from Tomato

The gaseous plant hormone ethylene influences many physiological processes in plant growth and development. Plant ethylene responses are mediated by a family of ethylene receptors, in which the N-terminal transmembrane domains are responsible for ethylene binding and membrane localization. Until now, little structural information was available on the molecular mechanism of ethylene responses by the transmembrane binding domain of ethylene receptors. Here, we screened different constructs, fusion tags, detergents, and purification methods of the transmembrane sensor domain of ethylene receptors. However, due to their highly hydrophobic transmembrane domain (TMD), only a KSI-fused LeETR21–131 from tomato yielded a good-quality nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum in the organic solvent. Interestingly, a dimer model of LeETR21–131 built by the AlphaFold2 algorithm showed greatly converged structures. The interaction analysis of ethylene and LeETR21–131 using molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations demonstrated the potential binding sites of ethylene in LeETR21–131. Our exploration provides valuable knowledge for further understanding of the ethylene-perception process in ethylene receptors
