Antiferromagnetic Correlation and the Pairing Mechanism of the Cuprates and Iron Pnictides : a View From the Functional Renormalization Group Studies
We compare the one-loop functional renormalization group results for the
cuprates and the iron pnictides. Interestingly a coherent picture suggesting
that antiferromagnetic correlation causes pairing for both materials emerges.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures. Proposal for detecting out of phase s-wave

Magnetoelectric properties of flexible BiFeO 3 /Ni tapes
We report ferroelectric (FE), ferromagnetic, and magnetoelectric (ME) properties of BiFeO 3 films directly deposited on flexible magnetic Ni tapes. Without use of metal-oxide and/or noble metal buffer layer between the BiFeO 3 and the Ni, both ferroelectric and magnetic properties of the film and the substrate are preserved. X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analyses confirm the formation of preferentially oriented (110) BiFeO 3 film on Ni tapes. The BiFeO 3 film has a saturation polarization and a piezoelectric d 33 coefficient of 69 μC/cm 2 and 52 pm/V, respectively. The BiFeO 3 /Ni tape shows a magnetoelectric coefficient of 3.5 mV/cm·Oe.Fil: Yan, L.. No especifíca;Fil: Zhuo, M.. No especifíca;Fil: Wang, Z.. Virginia Tech University; Estados UnidosFil: Yao, J.. Competitions of magnetism and superconductivity in FeAs-based materials
Using the numerical unrestricted Hartree-Fock approach, we study the ground
state of a two-orbital model describing newly discovered FeAs-based
superconductors. We observe the competition of a mode spin-density
wave and the superconductivity as the doping concentration changes. There might
be a small region in the electron-doping side where the magnetism and
superconductivity coexist. The superconducting pairing is found to be spin
singlet, orbital even, and mixed s + d wave (even
parity).Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer mission
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE), one of the four scientific space
science missions within the framework of the Strategic Pioneer Program on Space
Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a general purpose high energy
cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observatory, which was successfully launched on
December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The DAMPE
scientific objectives include the study of galactic cosmic rays up to
TeV and hundreds of TeV for electrons/gammas and nuclei respectively, and the
search for dark matter signatures in their spectra. In this paper we illustrate
the layout of the DAMPE instrument, and discuss the results of beam tests and
calibrations performed on ground. Finally we present the expected performance
in space and give an overview of the mission key scientific goals.Comment: 45 pages, including 29 figures and 6 tables. Published in Astropart.

Nernst effect of the new iron-based superconductor LaOFFeAs
We report the first Nernst effect measurement on the new iron-based
superconductor LaOFFeAs . In the normal state, the
Nernst signal is negative and very small. Below a large positive peak
caused by vortex motion is observed. The flux flowing regime is quite large
compared to conventional type-II superconductors. However, a clear deviation of
the Nernst signal from normal state background and an anomalous depression of
off-diagonal thermoelectric current in the normal state between and 50
K are observed. We propose that this anomaly in the normal state Nernst effect
could correlate with the SDW fluctuations.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; Latex file changed, references adde
Pressure Effect on the superconducting properties of LaO_{1-x}F_{x}FeAs(x=0.11) superconductor
Diamagnetic susceptibility measurements under high hydrostatic pressure (up
to 1.03 GPa) were carried out on the newly discovered Fe-based superconductor
LaO_{1-x}F_{x}FeAs(x=0.11). The transition temperature T_c, defined as the
point at the maximum slope of superconducting transition, was enhanced almost
linearly by hydrostatic pressure, yielding a dT_c/dP of about 1.2 K/GPa.
Differential diamagnetic susceptibility curves indicate that the underlying
superconducting state is complicated. It is suggested that pressure plays an
important role on pushing low T_c superconducting phase toward the main
(optimal) superconducting phase.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure
Direct detection of a break in the teraelectronvolt cosmic-ray spectrum of electrons and positrons
High energy cosmic ray electrons plus positrons (CREs), which lose energy
quickly during their propagation, provide an ideal probe of Galactic
high-energy processes and may enable the observation of phenomena such as
dark-matter particle annihilation or decay. The CRE spectrum has been directly
measured up to TeV in previous balloon- or space-borne experiments,
and indirectly up to TeV by ground-based Cherenkov -ray
telescope arrays. Evidence for a spectral break in the TeV energy range has
been provided by indirect measurements of H.E.S.S., although the results were
qualified by sizeable systematic uncertainties. Here we report a direct
measurement of CREs in the energy range by the
DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) with unprecedentedly high energy
resolution and low background. The majority of the spectrum can be properly
fitted by a smoothly broken power-law model rather than a single power-law
model. The direct detection of a spectral break at TeV confirms the
evidence found by H.E.S.S., clarifies the behavior of the CRE spectrum at
energies above 1 TeV and sheds light on the physical origin of the sub-TeV
CREs.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures, Nature in press, doi:10.1038/nature2447
Pan-genome analysis highlights the role of structural variation in the evolution and environmental adaptation of Asian honeybees.
The Asian honeybee, Apis cerana, is an ecologically and economically important pollinator. Mapping its genetic variation is key to understanding population-level health, histories and potential capacities to respond to environmental changes. However, most efforts to date were focused on single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) based on a single reference genome, thereby ignoring larger scale genomic variation. We employed long-read sequencing technologies to generate a chromosome-scale reference genome for the ancestral group of A. cerana. Integrating this with 525 resequencing data sets, we constructed the first pan-genome of A. cerana, encompassing almost the entire gene content. We found that 31.32% of genes in the pan-genome were variably present across populations, providing a broad gene pool for environmental adaptation. We identified and characterized structural variations (SVs) and found that they were not closely linked with SNP distributions; however, the formation of SVs was closely associated with transposable elements. Furthermore, phylogenetic analysis using SVs revealed a novel A. cerana ecological group not recoverable from the SNP data. Performing environmental association analysis identified a total of 44 SVs likely to be associated with environmental adaptation. Verification and analysis of one of these, a 330 bp deletion in the Atpalpha gene, indicated that this SV may promote the cold adaptation of A. cerana by altering gene expression. Taken together, our study demonstrates the feasibility and utility of applying pan-genome approaches to map and explore genetic feature variations of honeybee populations, and in particular to examine the role of SVs in the evolution and environmental adaptation of A. cerana
Change of rotation measure during eclipse of a black widow PSR J20510827
Black widows are millisecond pulsars ablating their companions. The material
blown from the companion blocks the radio emission, resulting in radio
eclipses. The properties of the eclipse medium are poorly understood. Here, we
present direct evidence of the existence of magnetic fields in the eclipse
medium of the black widow PSR J20510827 using observations made with the
Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). We detect a
regular decrease in rotation measure (RM) in the egress of eclipse, changing
from to . The RM gradually
changes back to normal when the line-of-sight moves away from the eclipse. The
estimated line-of-sight magnetic field strength in the eclipse medium is G. The RM reversal could be caused by a change of the magnetic field
strength along the line of sight due to binary orbital motion. The RM reversal
phenomenon has also been observed in some repeating fast radio bursts (FRBs),
and the study of spider pulsars may provide additional information about the
origin of FRBs.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, accept for publication in Ap
