Background and objective Patient whose carina is involved by carcinoma is difficult to treat by surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of left main bronchus root prolongation to cure these patients. Methods Three patients with lung carcinoma received tumor, right upper lung and carina excision. And then the trachea and the carina was rebuilt by continuous suture, so that the left main bronchus root was extended by 3 cm, then the middle and lower lobe bronchus were sutured to the right lateral wall of the moved up eminence. Results All the patients left hospital successfully after three-week treatment, without anastomotic stoma fistula. And they got good quality of life after 30, 21 and 11 months’ follow-up, no recurrence or metabasis was found. Conclusion The left main bronchus root prolongation can preserve the left lateral wall, however, part of the tracheal mucous membrane and arteria trachealis can be protected without injury. It’s benifit for making productive cough and lowering complications after operation. The new carinal reconstruction process has definite indication, which refer to patient with normal left main bronchus root and the right inferior segment trachea involved by carcinoma

Repeated misdiagnosis of small intestine bronchogenic cyst: a case report

Bronchogenic cysts are uncommon congenital malformations of the respiratory system. These cysts can be categorized as intrapulmonary, mediastinal, or ectopic. Ectopic bronchogenic cysts, which lack distinctive clinical and imaging features, are particularly challenging to diagnose. This study presents a 48-year-old woman having a small intestinal bronchogenic cyst. She was repeatedly misdiagnosed as having an ovarian chocolate cyst or a cystic mass of bladder origin three years ago. However, no cyst was found during the operation. Half a year prior to presenting at our hospital, the patient developed frequent urination, prompting her to seek further treatment. We eventually discovered a cyst in the small intestine. The histological evaluation of the specimen showed a bronchogenic cyst. Small intestine bronchogenic cysts are extremely rare and easily misdiagnosed. It should be considered as one of the differential diagnoses of pelvic cysts. Particularly, when intraoperative exploration of the pelvic cavity fails to detect any cysts, consideration should be given to the possibility of small intestine bronchogenic cysts

Research and development (R&D) of nanodrugs is a long, complex and uncertain process. Since the 1960s, computing has been used as an auxiliary tool in the field of drug discovery. Many cases have proven the practicability and efficiency of computing in drug discovery. Over the past decade, computing, especially model prediction and molecular simulation, has been gradually applied to nanodrug R&D, providing substantive solutions to many problems. Computing has made important contributions to promoting data-driven decision-making and reducing failure rates and time costs in discovery and development of nanodrugs. However, there are still a few articles to examine, and it is necessary to summarize the development of the research direction. In the review, we summarize application of computing in various stages of nanodrug R&D, including physicochemical properties and biological activities prediction, pharmacokinetics analysis, toxicological assessment and other related applications. Moreover, current challenges and future perspectives of the computing methods are also discussed, with a view to help computing become a high-practicability and -efficiency auxiliary tool in nanodrugs discovery and development

Objective. To assess the efficacy and short- and mid-term results of endovascular surgery and hybrid surgical procedures in treatment of complex aortic dissection. Methods. Clinical data of 90 patients with complex aortic dissection admitted from June 2012 to June 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. Among the patients, 60 cases were male and 30 cases were female, and their ages were ranged from 32 to 79, with an average age of 55 years old; different endovascular techniques and/or hybrid procedures were performed in these patients. Results. Technical success rate was 100% for the entire group of patients. Type I endoleak occurred in 8 patients immediately after stent-graft placement, which in 2 cases disappeared after a proximal Cuff placement, and the other cases received no special treatment. Follow-up was conducted from 1 month to 72 months, with an average of 36.3 months, and no stent-graft migration or organ ischemia was noted. In the follow-up patients, no type I endoleak occurred but type II endoleak was found in 2 cases, which were cured without treatment; no patient had paraplegia. Conclusion. Endovascular surgery and hybrid procedures have demonstrable mid- and long-term efficacy in treatment of complex aortic diseases. However, this conclusion still requires multicenter, large-sample studies to further confirm

Improved characterization of the relationship between long intergenic non‐coding RNA Linc00152 and the occurrence and development of malignancies

Abstract Linc00152, located on chromosome 2p11.2, is a long intergenic non‐coding RNA molecule with 828 nucleotides that is highly expressed in many types of human tumor tissues, especially in malignant tumors of the digestive system. Linc00152 promotes the occurrence and development of tumors by increasing tumor cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and apoptosis. Additionally, linc00152 contributes to the carcinogenesis of several cancers, including gastric cancer, liver cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, gallbladder cancer, clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and colorectal cancer, by disturbing various signaling pathways (eg PI3K/AKT, mTOR, IL‐1, and NOTCH 1 signaling pathways). High linc00152 expression levels are associated with chemoresistance as well as poor prognosis and shorter survival. Continual advances made in the relevant research have indicated that linc00152 may be useful as a new tumor molecular biomarker, applicable for tumor diagnosis, targeted therapy, and prognosis assessment. This review summarizes the progress in the research into the relationship between linc00152 and the occurrence and development of malignancies based on molecular functions, regulatory mechanisms, and clinical applications

Establishment of platelet donor registry improves the treatment of platelet transfusion refractoriness in Guangzhou region of China

Platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR) is the major complication of long-term platelet supportive care. To improve the effectiveness of platelet transfusion therapy in PTR patients, we aimed to establish a platelet donor registry in our region (Guangzhou, China) by typing the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) and human platelet antigen (HPA). Blood donors (n = 864) from our population were genotyped for HLA-A, HLA-B and HPA systems by polymerase chain reaction amplification with sequence-specific primer(PCR-SSP) techniques. Using this cohort, we compared the results of platelet transfusions (matched vs. random) in 23 patients with PTR. Matched platelets were selected either by HLA antigen matching or by HLA antibody matching, as predicted by antibody specificity prediction (ASP) analysis. Significantly higher platelet recovery (PPR) values were obtained with HLA-matched platelets in comparison with random platelets. No significant difference in PPR was observed between HLA matching and ASP methods. In two patients, platelet-specific alloantibodies (alloabs) (anti-HPA-3b and anti-HPA-5b) were detected besides HLA class I alloabs. Transfusion with HLA- and HPA-compatible platelets in both the patients resulted in significantly higher PPR when compared with HLA-compatible platelet transfusion alone. In this study, we demonstrated that the establishment of an HLA- and HPA-typed platelet aphaeresis donor registry is useful to improve the treatment outcome of PTR patients and to maintain a long-term platelet transfusion strategy. © 2010 British Blood Transfusion Society.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

Distribution of MICA haplotypes in a Chinese Han population

The MICA gene encodes nonclassical major histocompatibility complex class I molecules, centromeric to HLA-B and telomeric to HLA-DRB1. The MICA genes are polymorphic. The immune response against MICA may correlate with a decrease in graft survival after transplantation. However, data on the frequency of MICA polymorphisms in different populations are limited. In this study, we determined MICA allelic frequencies in a Han population living in Guangdong Province in south China. A total of 15 MICA alleles were identified using sequence-based typing. The most frequent allele was MICA*010 (22.22%), followed by MICA*002:01(18.56%), MICA*008:01(16.32%), and MICA*019(14.93%). The MICA null gene (MICA*Del) exhibited a frequency of 1.743% in this population. MICA and HLA, MICA-HLA-B, and MICA-HLA-A/HLA-B/HLA-DRB1 haplotype frequencies were estimated. The most common 2-, 3- and 4-locus haplotypes were HLA-B*40:01-MICA*008:01 (13.70%), HLA-A*11:01-B*40:01-MICA*008:01(8.25%), and HLA-A*33:03-B*58:01-DRB1*03:01-MICA*002:01(5.22%). A new MICA allele, MICA*061, was identified and appears to be evolutionarily related to MICA*012:01. This study provides high-resolution information on the distribution of haplotypes with MICA, HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DRB1 in China. This information should help determine the mechanisms underlying diseases and allotransplant rejection associated with MICA polymorphisms in the southern Chinese Han population. © 2012 American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics.link_to_subscribed_fulltex
