Occlusion Aware Unsupervised Learning of Optical Flow
It has been recently shown that a convolutional neural network can learn
optical flow estimation with unsupervised learning. However, the performance of
the unsupervised methods still has a relatively large gap compared to its
supervised counterpart. Occlusion and large motion are some of the major
factors that limit the current unsupervised learning of optical flow methods.
In this work we introduce a new method which models occlusion explicitly and a
new warping way that facilitates the learning of large motion. Our method shows
promising results on Flying Chairs, MPI-Sintel and KITTI benchmark datasets.
Especially on KITTI dataset where abundant unlabeled samples exist, our
unsupervised method outperforms its counterpart trained with supervised
learning.Comment: CVPR 2018 Camera-read
An authoring tool for structuring and annotating on-line educational courses : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Computer Science at Massey University
This thesis studies the design and prototype implementation of a new web-based course authoring system for the Technology Integrated Learning Environment (TILE) project. The TILE authoring system edits the course structure and allows the author to annotate the course structure with meta-data. It makes extensive use of XML technology to communicate structured data across the Internet, as well as for both local and web-side databases. The Authoring tool is designed to support development by multiple authors and has check-in and check - out, as well as version control facilities. It also provides an interface for adopting other multimedia tools such as AudioGraph. The tool has an easy-to-use graphical user interface. The technical problems that have been solved in this project include issues such as cross-platform support, drag and drop functionality using JDK l.l.8, etc. System environments, such as relational database set up, XML database set up, Java swing set up in Mac also have been discussed. The authoring system interface analysis, database analysis and function analysis have been completed for the complete the system as specified. An intermediate system, designed to a reduced specification, has been implemented as a prototype and details of this system, which can work independently of the TILE delivery system, are included. The Full TILE authoring system including InstantDB database access also has been partially implemented. The prototype application has also has been tested on the PC platform
Heavy colored SUSY partners from deflected anomaly mediation
We propose a deflected anomaly mediation scenario from SUSY QCD which can
lead to both positive and negative deflection parameters (there is a smooth
transition between these two deflection parameter regions by adjusting certain
couplings). Such a scenario can naturally give a SUSY spectrum in which all the
colored sparticles are heavy while the sleptons are light. As a result, the
discrepancy between the Brookheaven experiment and LHC data can be
reconciled in this scenario. We also find that the parameter space for
explaining the anomaly at level can be fully covered by the
future LUX-ZEPLIN 7.2 Ton experiment.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure
Substitution Delone Sets
This paper addresses the problem of describing aperiodic discrete structures
that have a self-similar or self-affine structure. Substitution Delone set
families are families of Delone sets (X_1, ..., X_n) in R^d that satisfy an
inflation functional equation under the action of an expanding integer matrix
in R^d. This paper studies such functional equation in which each X_i is a
discrete multiset (a set whose elements are counted with a finite
multiplicity). It gives necessary conditions on the coefficients of the
functional equation for discrete solutions to exist. It treats the case where
the equation has Delone set solutions. Finally, it gives a large set of
examples showing limits to the results obtained.Comment: 34 pages, latex file; some results in Sect 5 rearranged and theorems
