We present several iterations for preconditioners introduced by Tarazaga and Cuellar (2009), and study the convergence of the method for solving a linear system whose coefficient matrix is positive definite matrices, and we also find that they complete very well with the SOR iteration, which is shown through numerical examples

RD-Suite: A Benchmark for Ranking Distillation

The distillation of ranking models has become an important topic in both academia and industry. In recent years, several advanced methods have been proposed to tackle this problem, often leveraging ranking information from teacher rankers that is absent in traditional classification settings. To date, there is no well-established consensus on how to evaluate this class of models. Moreover, inconsistent benchmarking on a wide range of tasks and datasets make it difficult to assess or invigorate advances in this field. This paper first examines representative prior arts on ranking distillation, and raises three questions to be answered around methodology and reproducibility. To that end, we propose a systematic and unified benchmark, Ranking Distillation Suite (RD-Suite), which is a suite of tasks with 4 large real-world datasets, encompassing two major modalities (textual and numeric) and two applications (standard distillation and distillation transfer). RD-Suite consists of benchmark results that challenge some of the common wisdom in the field, and the release of datasets with teacher scores and evaluation scripts for future research. RD-Suite paves the way towards better understanding of ranking distillation, facilities more research in this direction, and presents new challenges.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2011.04006 by other author

Objective:To investigate the aspiration risk and the aspiration cognition of elderly inpatients. Method: A self-designed questionnaire about the aspiration risk and the aspiration cognition was applied to survey the hospitalized elderly. Result: The aspiration risk of the elderly was higher, up to 41.3%, characterized by coming up with various symptoms. The illnesses the elderly suffering from, types of medication, motion ability and the state of consciousness were the risk factors resulting in aspiration (P<0.05); and only 4.4% of the patients completely understood the knowledge of aspiration and aspiration pneumonitis. Conclusion: Elderly patients are at high risk of aspiration along with various symptoms coming up with, and they have poor knowledge about aspiration and aspiration pneumonitis relatively.

Percutaneous closure of postinfarct muscular ventricular septal defects: A multicenter study in China

AbstractBackgroundSurgical repair is an effective method to treat ventricular septal defect (VSD) complicating acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the mortality rate remains high. This study was designed to assess the immediate and mid-term results of transcatheter closure of postinfarct muscular VSDs.MethodsData were retrospectively collected from 42 AMI patients who underwent attempted transcatheter VSD closure between 2008 and 2012 in seven heart centers of China.ResultsNine patients underwent emergent VSD closure in the acute phase (within two weeks from VSD) while the others underwent elective closure. The time between VSD occurrence and closure in emergency group and elective group was 7.7±2.3 days and 35±14.5 days, respectively (p<0.01). The percentage of procedure success in the emergency group and elective group was 77.8% (7/9) and 97% (32/33), respectively (p=0.048). The hospital mortality was higher for emergent closure in comparison to elective closure (66.7% vs. 6.1%, p<0.01). During a median follow-up of 25 months (0–58 months), two patients died at 8 and 29 months, respectively, and no serious complications occurred in other patients.ConclusionInterventional postinfarct VSD closure is a safe and effective approach that can be performed with a high procedural success rate, with favorable outcomes if it can be undertaken >14 days postinfarct

Downregulation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α by RNA interference alleviates the development of collagen-induced arthritis in rats

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is the most common type of autoimmune arthritis. Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) as a transcription factor in response to hypoxia suggests that it could be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of RA. In this study, we assessed whether the HIF pathway blockade attenuates the manifestations of RA in the collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) rat model. We constructed a short hairpin RNA (shRNA) lentiviral expression vector targeting HIF-1α (pLVX-shRNA-HIF-1α) and to achieve HIF-1α RNA interference. Quantitative RT-PCR, immunofluorescence staining, and western blot were used to detect the expressions of HIF-1α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), phsopho (p)-p65, and p-IКBɑ mRNA and protein, respectively. Micro-computed tomography was used to investigate joint morphology at different time points after CIA induction. Moreover, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to monitor the expression of inflammatory cytokines. In vitro analyses revealed that pLVX-shRNA-HIF-1α effectively inhibited the expression of HIF-1α and VEGF and led to the activation of p-65 and p-IКBɑ, as well as decreased proinflammatory cytokine expression in cell culture. Inhibition of HIF-1α in rats decreased signs of a systemic inflammatory condition, together with decreased pathological changes of RA. Moreover, downregulation of HIF-1α expression markedly reduced the synovitis and angiogenesis. In conclusion, we have shown that pharmacological inhibition of HIF-1 may improve the clinical manifestations of RA

Single longitudinal mode narrow linewidth thulium-doped fiber laser based on an eye-shaped dual-ring filter

A single-longitudinal-mode (SLM) thulium-doped fiber laser, based on an eye-shaped passive dual-ring filter, is designed and constructed. The eye-shaped passive compound cavity consisting of four couplers is used to increase the longitudinal mode spacing, and its performance is numerically analyzed in detail. A homemade uniform fiber Bragg grating serves as a wavelength selection device and a saturable absorber is used to further suppress the intense longitudinal mode competition in the laser cavity, ensuring the single-longitudinal-mode output. The experimental results demonstrate a laser output with a center wavelength of 2,049.85 nm and an optical signal-to-noise ratio of 63 dB. Moreover, the power fluctuation is less than 0.6 dB, and the center wavelength fluctuation is less than 0.03 nm over a continuous measurement period of 60 min, demonstrating an excellent stability. The laser linewidth is measured using an unbalanced Michelson interferometer and β-separation line method, resulting in a linewidth of 11.22 kHz
