Parallel processing area extraction and data transfer number reduction for automatic GPU offloading of IoT applications
For Open IoT, we have proposed Tacit Computing technology to discover the
devices that have data users need on demand and use them dynamically and an
automatic GPU offloading technology as an elementary technology of Tacit
Computing. However, it can improve limited applications because it only
optimizes parallelizable loop statements extraction. Thus, in this paper, to
improve performances of more applications automatically, we propose an improved
method with reduction of data transfer between CPU and GPU. We evaluate our
proposed offloading method by applying it to Darknet and find that it can

Baryons from instantons in holographic QCD
We consider aspects of dynamical baryons in a holographic dual of QCD that is
proposed on the basis of a D4/D8-brane configuration. We construct a soliton
solution carrying a unit baryon number and show that it is given by an
instanton solution of four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory with fixed size. The
Chern-Simons term on the flavor D8-branes plays a crucial role of protecting
the instanton from collapsing to zero size. By quantizing the collective
coordinates of the soliton, we work out the baryon spectra. Negative-parity
baryons as well as baryons with higher spins and isospins can be obtained in a

Dwarf males in the barnacle Alepas pacifica Pilsbry, 1907 (Thoracica, Lepadidae), a symbiont of jellyfish
In the pedunculate barnacle Alepas pacifica Pilsbry, 1907, a symbiont of jellyfish, several small individuals were found attached to conspecifics rather than directly to the host. We investigated whether these individuals act as dwarf males, as is known in some other species of barnacles. The conspecific-attached individuals had longer penes than juvenile hermaphrodites of similar sizes attached directly to the jellyfish, although there was no other morphological difference between these two types of individuals. Only the largest conspecific-attached individual was ovigerous. We conclude that the conspecific-attached individuals are dwarf males, which develop the male function at a smaller size than hermaphrodites do, with a small possibility of becoming hermaphroditic. This is the first report of dwarf males, and hence of the coexistence of males and hermaphrodites (androdioecy), in the family Lepadidae. In addition, the record of A. pacifica attached to Nemopilema nomurai Kishinouye, 1922, is reported herein as new to science
Colossal electroresistance and colossal magnetoresistive step in paramagnetic insulating phase of single crystalline bilayered manganite(LaPr)SrMnO
We report a significant decrease in the low-temperature resistance induced by
the application of an electric current on the -plane in the paramagnetic
insulating (PMI) state of
(LaPr)SrMnO. A colossal
electroresistance effect attaining -95% is observed at lower temperatures. A
colossal magnetoresistive step appears near 5T at low temperatures below 10K,
accompanied by an ultrasharp width of the insulator-metal transition. Injection
of higher currents to the crystal causes a disappearance of the steplike
transition. These findings have a close relationship with the presence of the
short-range charge-ordered clusters pinned within the PMI matrix of the crystal

Steplike Lattice Deformation of Single Crystalline (LaPr)SrMnO Bilayered Manganite
We report a steplike lattice transformation of single crystalline
(LaPr)SrMnObilayered manganite
accompanied by both magnetization and magnetoresistive jumps, and examine the
ultrasharp nature of the field-induced first-order transition from a
paramagnetic insulator to a ferromagnetic metal phase accompanied by a huge
decrease in resistance. Our findings support that the abrupt magnetostriction
is closely related to an orbital frustration existing in the inhomogeneous
paramagnetic insulating phase rather than a martensitic scenario between

Network optimization for enhanced resilience of urban heat island measurements
The urban heat island is a well-known phenomenon that impacts a wide variety of city operations. With greater availability of cheap meteorological sensors, it is possible to measure the spatial patterns of urban atmospheric characteristics with greater resolution. To develop robust and resilient networks, recognizing sensors may malfunction, it is important to know when measurement points are providing additional information and also the minimum number of sensors needed to provide spatial information for particular applications. Here we consider the example of temperature data, and the urban heat island, through analysis of a network of sensors in the Tokyo metropolitan area (Extended METROS). The effect of reducing observation points from an existing meteorological measurement network is considered, using random sampling and sampling with clustering. The results indicated the sampling with hierarchical clustering can yield similar temperature patterns with up to a 30% reduction in measurement sites in Tokyo. The methods presented have broader utility in evaluating the robustness and resilience of existing urban temperature networks and in how networks can be enhanced by new mobile and open data sources
Statistical Mechanics of the Chinese Restaurant Process: lack of self-averaging, anomalous finite-size effects and condensation
The Pitman-Yor, or Chinese Restaurant Process, is a stochastic process that
generates distributions following a power-law with exponents lower than two, as
found in a numerous physical, biological, technological and social systems. We
discuss its rich behavior with the tools and viewpoint of statistical
mechanics. We show that this process invariably gives rise to a condensation,
i.e. a distribution dominated by a finite number of classes. We also evaluate
thoroughly the finite-size effects, finding that the lack of stationary state
and self-averaging of the process creates realization-dependent cutoffs and
behavior of the distributions with no equivalent in other statistical

Automated synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals for positron emission tomography: an apparatus for labelling with [11C] methyl iodide (MIASA)
A fully automated apparatus for the routine synthesis and
formulation of short-lived 11C (t1/2 = 20 min) labelled radiopharmaceuticals
for positron emission tomography (PET) has
been developed. [11C]Carbon dioxide is converted to [11C]methyl
iodide, which can be used to label a wide variety of substrates by
methylation at C, N, O, or S electron rich centres. The apparatus,
MIASA (methyl iodide automated synthesis apparatus), was
designed to operate as part of an automated labelling system in a
shielded ‘hot’ laboratory. The apparatus was designed without the
size constraints of typical instrumentation used in hot cells, although
it is compact where necessary. Ample use of indicators and sensors,
together with compact design of the reaction flasks for small dead
space and efficient evaporation, led to good reliability and
performance. The design of the hardware and software is described
in this paper, together with a preparation of 3-N-[11C]methylspiperone
as a sterile injectable solution in physiological saline
