Development of the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms‐Japanese version: Pilot study

There is currently no reliable and valid multidimensional instrument for measuring psychological symptoms among Japanese university students. The purpose of this pilot study was to translate the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms‐62 (CCAPS‐62) into Japanese and evaluate its validity and reliability. Following robust translation procedures, the CCAPS‐Japanese was created. In the validation study, 2,758 undergraduate students from 11 universities (mean age = 19.08 ± 1.85 years) completed the CCAPS‐Japanese. The results of confirmatory factor analysis supported the theoretical eight‐factor structure model of the CCAPS‐Japanese with the exclusion of seven items. The decision to retain/remove items was made by evaluating factor loadings and model fit indices while considering cultural equivalence and structural validity. Using the finalized 55‐item CCAPS‐Japanese, further analyses demonstrated that the eight subscales had acceptable to good internal consistencies (α = .61–.89). Thus, the tool’s validity and reliability were established. The CCAPS‐Japanese may be appropriate for assessing the psychological concerns of Japanese university students.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/153629/1/cpp2412_am.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/153629/2/cpp2412.pd

Blood concentrations of small extracellular vesicles are determined by a balance between abundant secretion and rapid clearance

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are important mediators of cell–cell communication with respect to diverse physiological processes. To further understand their physiological roles, understanding blood sEV homoeostasis in a quantitative manner is desired. In this study, we propose novel kinetic approaches to estimate the secretion and clearance of mouse plasma–derived sEVs (MP-sEVs) based on the hypothesis that blood sEV concentrations are determined by a balance between the secretion and clearance of sEVs. Using our specific and sensitive sEV labelling technology, we succeeded in analysing MP-sEV clearance from the blood after intravenous administration into mice. This revealed the rapid disappearance of MP-sEVs with a half-life of approximately 7 min. Moreover, the plasma sEV secretion rate, which is presently impossible to directly evaluate, was calculated as 18 μg/min in mice based on pharmacokinetic (PK) analysis. Next, macrophage-depleted mice were prepared as a model of disrupted sEV homoeostasis with retarded sEV clearance. MP-sEV concentrations were increased in macrophage-depleted mice, which probably reflected a shift in the balance of secretion and clearance. Moreover, the increased MP-sEV concentration in macrophage-depleted mice was successfully simulated using calculated clearance rate constant, secretion rate constant and volume of distribution, suggesting the validity of our PK approaches. These results demonstrate that blood sEV concentration homoeostasis can be explained by the dynamics of rapid secretion/clearance

Exfoliated graphene sheets decorated with metal / metal oxide nanoparticles: simple preparation from cation exchanged graphite oxide

We produced carbon hybrid materials of graphene sheets decorated with metal or metal oxide nanoparticles of gold, silver, copper, cobalt, or nickel from cation exchanged graphite oxide. Measurements using powder X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray absorption spectra revealed that the Au and Ag in the materials (Au-Gr and Ag-Gr) existed on graphene sheets as metal nanoparticles, whereas Cu and Co in the materials (Cu-Gr and Co-Gr) existed as a metal oxide. Most Ni particles in Ni-Gr were metal, but the surfaces of large particles were partly oxidized, producing a core-shell structure. The Ag-Gr sample showed a catalytic activity for the oxygen reduction reaction in 1.0 M KOH aq. under an oxygen atmosphere. Ag-Gr is superior as a cathode in alkaline fuel cells, which should not be disturbed by the methanol cross-over problem from the anode. We established an effective approach to prepare a series of graphene-nanoparticle composite materials using heat treatment

Pregnancy outcomes of women who received conservative therapy for endometrial carcinoma or atypical endometrial hyperplasia

Case: Approximately 3%‐25% of cases of endometrial carcinoma (EC) or atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AH) occur in women aged <40 years and conservative treatment with high‐dose medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is administered to women who wish to preserve their fertility. Here is reported the pregnancy outcomes of patients with EC or AH who received MPA therapy at Tokushima University Hospital, Tokushima, Japan. The frequency of pregnancy and live births among the patients with EC or AH who received conservative treatment, followed by fertility treatment, were analyzed retrospectively. Outcome: Twelve patients underwent fertility examinations and received fertility treatment immediately after the completion of conservative treatment for EC or AH. One patient had the complication of severe diabetes and total embryo cryopreservation was performed before her diabetes was treated. Among the other 11 patients, 8 (72.7%) became pregnant at least once and 6 (54.5%) experienced at least 1 live birth. Three patients (25.0%) suffered disease recurrence during or after the infertility treatment and all of the recurrences occurred in the EC cohort. Conclusion: When patients with EC or AH wish to preserve their fertility, it is recommended that prompt and effective fertility treatment, including assisted reproductive technology, should be initiated just after conservative treatment because EC and AH exhibit relatively high recurrence rates among conservatively treated patients
