    Atención estomatológica a menores de 19 años en la provincia Las Tunas, resultados de tres años

    Fundamento: la salud bucodental es un componente de la salud general, vital para un adecuado crecimiento y desarrollo del niño y adolescente, constituyendo una prioridad en el actual programa nacional de atención estomatológica.Objetivo: describir la atención estomatológica al menor de 19 años en la provincia Las Tunas, en el periodo comprendido de enero 2015 a diciembre 2017.Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo en un universo de todos los pacientes de la provincia Las Tunas, en el periodo ya señalado. La muestra fueron los menores de 19 años. Los datos se obtuvieron de los registros de información estadística de la dirección provincial de salud. Se analizaron los indicadores sobre la base de los establecidos en el programa nacional de atención estomatológica.Resultados: la cobertura de atención estomatológica a los pacientes menores de 19 años fue de más del 89 % en los tres años; los pacientes examinados por encima del 92 %; la atención curativa concluida fue mejor en el año 2016 (86,4 %). Las aplicaciones de laca flúor llegaron a las tres cuartas partes de la muestra en 2016 y en 2017 en las escuelas rurales, el resto fue menor. Los enjuagatorios de flúor solo fueron insuficientes en los adolescentes de 15 a 18 años. El municipio Amancio expuso los mejores resultados.Conclusiones: se caracterizó la atención estomatológica al menor de 19 años durante tres años en la provincia Las Tunas, mostrando avances alentadores en cuanto a los indicadores del país.</p

    Characterization of diabetic patients with oral diseases

    Background: diabetes mellitus is a risk factor associated with the development of oral diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis.Objective: to characterize the diabetic patients with oral diseases belonging to Doctor's Office # 36 of the “Heroes of Bolivia" Dental Clinic of the health district of "Manuel Piti Fajardo" University Polyclinic of Las Tunas, from April 2017 to February 2019.Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a population made up of the 118 diabetic patients of the aforementioned doctor's office. History taking and oral examination of each patient were performed. The level of knowledge was measured by means of a questionnaire.Results: in the study population the male sex (54,2 %) and the 65 and older age group prevailed (46,6 %). Gingival diseases were frequent (44,9 %), followed by tooth decay (30,5 %). The gingival diseases had more incidence in the female sex, the rest of the oral diseases appeared mostly in the male sex. 84,7 % of the patients presented stress, followed by poor oral hygiene (68,6 %), and smoking (31,4 %), all of them more frequent in the male sex.Conclusions: diabetic patients with oral diseases were characterized in the office where the research was carried out. The need to increase the patients' level of knowledge of the relationship of diabetes with oral health was evidenced.</p

    Self-perception of dentistry graduates in Las Tunas of their professional competences

    Background: the Cuban universities have, among their missions, the comprehensive training of health professionals with a high quality that makes it possible to satisfy social demands.Objective: to describe the self-perception that graduates of dentistry have, in the province of Las Tunas, of their professional competences.Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out during the year 2019. The study population consisted of 150 graduates from the aforementioned major, with less than three years of graduation, at the University of Medical Sciences of Las Tunas. A survey was applied.Results: according to the graduates, regarding their skills to carry out the tasks of their profession, there was a prevalence related to a comprehensive dental care and health education, where 62,7 and 64,7 %, respectively, consider that they are completely trained to carry them out; none of them reported not to be trained. In the administrative actions only 18 % proved to be fully trained. 54,7 % think that they are well trained during majoring. 92 % indicates as causes of difficulties in their performance the lack of material resources. 84,7 % states that they can demonstrate that the satisfaction of the population they attend is good.Conclusions: the graduates of the major of dentistry feel that they are well trained in different measures to carry out the tasks of their profession.</p
