Schwarzschild-de Sitter Metric and Inertial Beltrami Coordinates
Under consideration of coordinate conditions, we get the
Schwarzschild-Beltrami-de Sitter (S-BdS) metric solution of the Einstein field
equations with a cosmological constant . A brief review to the de
Sitter invariant special relativity (dS-SR), and de Sitter general relativity
(dS-GR, or GR with a ) is presented. The Beltrami metric
provides inertial reference frame for the dS-spacetime. By examining the
Schwarzschild-de Sitter (S-dS) metric existed in literatures
since 1918, we find that the existed S-dS metric describes
some mixing effects of gravity and inertial-force, instead of a pure gravity
effect arisen from "solar mass" in dS-GR. In this paper, we solve the
vacuum Einstein equation of dS-GR, with the requirement of gravity-free metric
. In this way we find S-BdS
solution of dS-GR, written in inertial Beltrami coordinates. This is a new form
of S-dS metric. Its physical meaning and possible applications are discussed.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figur
From Ethnocentrism to Intercultural Communication: The Hundred-Foot Journey
This study intends to use the lens of ethnocentrism to analyze how people from different ethnic cultures—in this case, the French culture and Indian culture—fail to communicate with each other and experience a collision of culture related to ethnocentrism. The hundred-foot journey is not just the distance between two restaurants. It is the distance of two ethnic groups and two cultures. To be more culturally relative, there is a need for intercultural communication competence to help people transform themselves from being ethnocentric to culturally relativistic, a journey to remove one’s own cultural superiority and to understand the cultural practices of other ethnic groups in terms of their own ethnic cultural contexts. Induced CSF-1 Production and its Effects on C-FMS Transfected Monoblastic U937 Cells
This study examined how the monoblast-like human histiocytic lymphoma cell line U937 can be induced by phorbol 12-myristrate 13-acetate (PMA) to undergo differentiation. In order to study the mechanism of action of CSF-1, a CSF-1 receptor gene (c-fms) was transfected into U937 cells. Exogenous CSF-1 treatment induced an autocrine response in this CSF-1 was determined and all events were shown to be time dependent. CSF-1 stimulation also enhanced proto-oncogene c-jun and c-myc gene expression. Complementary DNA coding for Jun or Fos was introduced into U937 cells by transfection. The transfection did not generate a high level of CSF-1 gene expression which suggests that Fos and Jun alone are insufficient to induce CSF-1 synthesis
Efficacy and Safety of Emricasan in Liver Cirrhosis and/or Fibrosis
This study aimed to perform a meta-analysis to determine the efficacy and safety of emricasan.
Nine databases were searched for clinical trials investigating the efficacy of emricasan treatment in patients with liver cirrhosis or fibrosis. A manual search was conducted to identify the missing trials. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk of bias tool. Efficacy of emricasan treatment was defined as a positive change in apoptosis-related parameters from baseline to the last follow-up visit.
Overall, emricasan treatment is more effective in patients with liver cirrhosis or fibrosis than placebo (standardized mean difference [SMD] [95% confidence intervals (CI)]=0.28 [0.14; 0.41]). No significant change in model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score between the emricasan and placebo groups was noted (SMD [95% CI]=0.18 [-0.01; 0.36]; p=0.058). A 50 mg dose of emricasan had the highest efficacy rate compared to placebo (SMD [95% CI]=0.28 [0.06; 0.50]; p=0.012), followed by the 5 mg dosing regimen (SMD [95% CI]=0.28 [0.06; 0.50]; p=0.012). Treatment with emricasan resulted in significant reductions in ALT (mean difference (MD) [95% CI]=-5.89 [-10.59; -1.20]; p=0.014) and caspase3/7 levels (MD [95%CI]=-1215.93 [-1238.53; -1193.33]; p<0.001), respectively. No significant increase in the rate of overall adverse events was noted (OR [95% CI]=1.52 [0.97; 2.37]; p=0.069).
Treatment with emricasan is more effective in improving liver function and apoptosis parameters compared to placebo, with a well-tolerated safety profile. However, due to the poor quality of the analyzed studies, the small number of trials and patients, and the short follow-up periods, more robust trials are still warranted
