Since the Minimalist Program(Chomsky 1995)introduced the notion “functional features” as points of deviation amongnatural languages, researchers of language acquisition have been trying to figure out what forms developing grammars possiblytake within the Minimalist framework. This research note provides brief summary of the new linguistic theory in comparison with pre-Minimalist theories, together with somelatest studies of adult second language acquisition. The summaries of the studies show that predictions of possible interlanguage grammars have become much more fine-tuned in the new theory, though some problems are yet to be solved

This research note summarizes findings in adult second language learners’ interlanguage grammar in the fields of generative linguistics and psycholinguistics. The linguistic approach captures some components of the grammar, though it does not clarify the role of the input to grammar formation. The psycholinguistic approach, especially research of sentence processing, reveals learners’ preference among processing-related factors, though it does not explore fully the content of the grammar. Referring to the findings in the two fields, the Autonomous Induction Theory (AIT, Carroll 1999), which is constructed to clarify the role of input to interlanguage grammar, is reviewed. The Theory states that learning (i.e., change/development of grammar) is possible only when language processing fails in analyzing incoming input. The AIT connects processing and grammar mechanisms, and provides some promising accounts for issue in second language acquisition research.研究ノー

Evaluation of Longitudinal Conversion Loss (LCL) for Indoor AC Mains Line

    Get PDF
Influence to electromagnetic environment has been studied for power line communication (PLC). Longitudinal conversion loss (LCL) and input impedance are important parameters to evaluate the influence. Indoor AC mains line is modeled considering with typical conditions of Japanese house. The modeled line and electric equipment are presented with 4-port F-matrixes. The parameters of 4-port F-matrix are determined from calculation and measurement. Using this model, the input impedance and the LCL are calculated. The analysis model is examined by a simple network, and the results show that the calculation values almost agree with the measured values. The input impedance and the LCL are investigated for actual AC mains line, and the measured results almost agree with the calculated value.2003 IEEE Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, August 18-22, 2003, Boston, MA, US
