Automatic Micromanipulation System using Stereoscopic Microscope
In this paper, we developed a visual feedback system that controls a micromanipulator so that a needle head may reach a target. The system consists of a stereoscopic microscope, a micromanipulator, two CCD cameras and a personal computer. The position of the target and the needle head under stereoscopic microscope are measured three dimensionally by using two CCD cameras which are set to eyepieces of the microscope. It is necessary that the image processing employed be fast so that the micromanipulation can be carried out at a realistic rate. The image processing time for detecting the target and the needle head is greatly reduced by using image compression </p
Optimal Transmission Scheduling for a Hybrid of Full- and Half-Duplex Relaying
Full-duplex relaying (FDR), i.e., simultaneous transmission and reception using the same frequency channel at a radio relay, can be used to achieve a spectral efficiency higher than that in the case of half-duplex relaying (HDR) if loop-back interference is well-managed. To achieve spectral efficiency that is higher than that achieved when using FDR and HDR separately, an optimal transmission-scheduling scheme for an FDR-HDR hybrid is proposed. The scheme is formulated as an optimization problem. The conditions required to achieve the maximum spectral efficiency are determined analytically. Numerical results confirm that the proposed scheme is superior to FDR and HDR
Modulation of Th1- and Th2-type immune response in infant mouse after prenatal exposure to volatile organic compound

Field-orientation dependence of quantum phase transitions in the S=1/2 triangular-lattice antiferromagnet BaCoSbO
BaCoSbO approximates the two-dimensional spin-1/2
triangular-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet. This compound displays
magnetic-field-induced quantum phase transitions, including the
1/3-magnetization-plateau, but its magnetization processes for the magnetic
field parallel and perpendicular to the axis are different due to the
weak easy-plane anisotropy and the weak interlayer antiferromagnetic exchange
interaction. To elucidate how the quantum phase transitions change between
these two field directions, we measured the field-angle dependence of the
magnetization process in BaCoSbO using pulsed high magnetic fields.
We compared obtained magnetic field-field angle phase diagram with those
obtained by the large-size cluster mean-field method combined with a scaling
scheme and the semiclassical theory. We also found a narrow 1/3-magnetization
plateau and a high-field transition with a small magnetization jump for
, not observed in the previous studies.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev.
Design Support System for Japanese Kimono
The Japanese kimono has the same shape and the basic size, regardless of the wearer's form. This simplicity of form makes its textile pattern most important to represent the wearer's personality and beauty. As it is difficult for beginners to imagine the look of wearing the kimono, it makes designs hard. So, we developed a design support system for the Japanese kimono. The authors describe the CAD system, design of the striped kimono, and detecting the edge of the stripe </p

Detection of a particular object from motion images under bad condition
This paper deals with the detection of the rescue target as a particular object from motion images under bad conditions. When shipwrecks occur, the search activities of rescue are done using an airplane. The detection of the rescue target such as a life raft depends on visual search of human eyes. To detect a small rescue target in the wide sea, the searcher man must monitor motion sights in nasty weather. In order to carry out the prompt rescue of human life, development of searching support system using image processing techniques in place of the human eye is required It is very difficult to process the motion images taken by the airplane, because these images are inferior due to shaking of the airplane, sunshine reflections and crest waves under bad conditions. We make a simulation experiment for detection of the rescue target from images. To get basic design data for development of the searching system in the case of a marine casualty, we propose motion image processing techniques using improved S/N ratio and dynamic range of the image data of the rescue target in the motion images under bad conditions </p
