Mesoscopic fluctuations of Coulomb drag between quasi-ballistic 1D-wires

    Get PDF
Quasiballistic 1D quantum wires are known to have a conductance of the order of 2e^2/h, with small sample-to-sample fluctuations. We present a study of the transconductance G_12 of two Coulomb-coupled quasiballistic wires, i.e., we consider the Coulomb drag geometry. We show that the fluctuations in G_12 differ dramatically from those of the diagonal conductance G_ii: the fluctuations are large, and can even exceed the mean value, thus implying a possible reversal of the induced drag current. We report extensive numerical simulations elucidating the fluctuations, both for correlated and uncorrelated disorder. We also present analytic arguments, which fully account for the trends observed numerically.Comment: 10 pages including 7 figures. Minor changes according to referee report. Accepted for PR

Studying the temperature dependences of the parameters of laser-generated lamb waves

The process of laser generation of pulses of symmetrical and antisymmetrical Lamb waves in a ferromagnetic plate due to the thermoelastic effect was experimentally studied. The temperature dependences of the shape, amplitude, duration, and vibration frequency of acoustic pulses and the velocities of their propagation in the plate were investigated. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

A method for the manufacture of electrodes

A method of reducing the distance between electrodes, comprising the growth of electrodes by means of electrodeposition in a solution, wherein during the process of growth the conductance over the electrodes is measured and the method is terminated when the conductance has reached a predetermined value. The method according to the invention is characterised in that measuring arrangement for measuring the conductance is suitable for measuring an electric current between the electrodes when the electrode gap is > 1 nanometer, preferably in the range of 1-50 nanometers.; A method of reducing the distance between electrodes, comprising the growth of electrodes by means of electrodeposition in a solution, wherein during the process of growth the conductance over the electrodes is measured and the method is terminated when the conductance has reached a predetermined value. 0-1 Laws for Fragments of Existential Second-order Logic: A Survey

The probability of a property on the collection of all finite relational structures is the limit as n! 1 of the fraction of structures with n elements satisfying the property, provided the limit exists. It is known that the 0-1 law holds for every property expressible in first-order logic, i.e., the probability of every such property exists and is either 0 or 1. Moreover, the associated decision problem for the probabilities is solvable. In this survey, we consider fragments of existential second-order logic in which we restrict the patterns of first-order quantifiers. We focus on fragments in which the first-order part belongs to a prefix class. We show that the classifications of prefix classes of first-order logic with equality according to the solvability of the finite satisfiability problem and according to the 0-1 law for the correspondin
