Curate and storyspace: an ontology and web-based environment for describing curatorial narratives
Existing metadata schemes and content management systems used by museums focus on describing the heritage objects that the museum holds in its collection. These are used to manage and describe individual heritage objects according to properties such as artist, date and preservation requirements. Curatorial narratives, such as physical or online exhibitions tell a story that spans across heritage objects and have a meaning that does not necessarily reside in the individual heritage objects themselves. Here we present curate, an ontology for describing curatorial narratives. This draws on structuralist accounts that distinguish the narrative from the story and plot, and also a detailed analysis of two museum exhibitions and the curatorial processes that contributed to them. Storyspace, our web based interface and API to the ontology, is being used by curatorial staff in two museums to model curatorial narratives and the processes through which they are constructed
Entrepreneurial Inclination Among Business Students: a Malaysian Study
Entrepreneurship has been the fundamental topics of discussion among the politicians, economists, and academics. Business creation is especially critical in developing countries to stimulate economic growth. The present study attempts to examine entrepreneurial inclination among students who are a potential source of entrepreneurs. The fi ndings of the present research study indicate that majority of our business students are not entrepreneurial-inclined. They do not seem to possess strong entrepreneurial characteristics and entrepreneurial skills, and they are not keen in starting a new business. The roles of higher institutes of education and the government in promoting entrepreneurship are discussed
Ultrafast Photoinduced Formation of Metallic State in a Perovskite-type Manganite with Short Range Charge and Orbital Order
Femtosecond reflection spectroscopy was performed on a perovskite-type
manganite, Gd0.55Sr0.45MnO3, with the short-range charge and orbital order
(CO/OO). Immediately after the photoirradiation, a large increase of the
reflectivity was detected in the mid-infrared region. The optical conductivity
spectrum under photoirradiation obtained from the Kramers-Kronig analyses of
the reflectivity changes demonstrates a formation of a metallic state. This
suggests that ferromagnetic spin arrangements occur within the time resolution
(ca. 200 fs) through the double exchange interaction, resulting in an ultrafast
CO/OO to FM switching.Comment: 4 figure
FRM-Based FIR filters with minimum coefficient sensitivities
A method for optimizing FRM-based FIR filters with optimum coefficient sensitivity is presented. This technique can be used in conjunction with nonlinear optimization techniques to design very sharp filters that do not only have very sparse coefficient values but also very low coefficient sensitivity
Submillimeter Array multiline observations of the massive star-forming region IRAS 18089-1732
Submillimeter Array (SMA) observations of the high-mass star-forming region
IRAS 18089-1732 in the 1 mm and 850 m band with 1 GHz bandwidth reveal a
wealth of information. We present the observations of 34 lines from 16
different molecular species. Most molecular line maps show significant
contributions from the outflow, and only few molecules are confined to the
inner core. We present and discuss the molecular line observations and outline
the unique capabilities of the SMA for future imaging line surveys at high
spatial resolution.Comment: Accepted for ApJ Letters, SMA special volum
SMA outflow/disk studies in the massive star-forming region IRAS18089-1732
SMA observations of the massive star-forming region IRAS 18089-1732 in the
1mm and 850mu band reveal outflow and disk signatures in different molecular
lines. The SiO(5--4) data show a collimated outflow in the northern direction.
In contrast, the HCOOCH3(20--19) line, which traces high-density gas, is
confined to the very center of the region and shows a velocity gradient across
the core. The HCOOCH3 velocity gradient is not exactly perpendicular to the
outflow axis but between an assumed disk plane and the outflow axis. We
interpret these HCOOCH3 features as originating from a rotating disk that is
influenced by the outflow and infall. Based on the (sub-)mm continuum emission,
the mass of the central core is estimated to be around 38M_sun. The dynamical
mass derived from the HCOOCH3 data is 22Msun, of about the same order as the
core mass. Thus, the mass of the protostar/disk/envelope system is dominated by
its disk and envelope. The two frequency continuum data of the core indicate a
low dust opacity index beta ~ 1.2 in the outer part, decreasing to beta ~ 0.5
on shorter spatial scales.Comment: 7 pages of text, 1 table, 3 figures, accepted for ApJ Letter
Neutron elastic scattering on calcium isotopes from chiral nuclear optical potentials
We formulate microscopic neutron-nucleus optical potentials from many-body
perturbation theory based on chiral two- and three-body forces. The neutron
self energy is first calculated in homogeneous matter to second order in
perturbation theory, which gives the central real and imaginary terms of the
optical potential. The real spin-orbit term is calculated separately from the
density matrix expansion using the same chiral interaction as in the self
energy. Finally, the full neutron-nucleus optical potential is derived within
the improved local density approximation utilizing mean field models consistent
with the chiral nuclear force employed. We compare the results of the
microscopic calculations to phenomenological models and experimental data up to
projectile energies of MeV. Experimental elastic differential
scattering cross sections and vector analyzing powers are generally well
reproduced by the chiral optical potential, but we find that total cross
sections are overestimated at high energies
