Numerical simulation of solid tumor blood perfusion and drug delivery during the “vascular normalization window” with antiangiogenic therapy
This Article is provided by the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund - Copyright @ 2011 Hindawi PublishingTo investigate the influence of vascular normalization on solid tumor blood perfusion and drug delivery, we used the generated blood vessel network for simulations. Considering the hemodynamic parameters changing after antiangiogenic therapies, the results show that the interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) in tumor tissue domain decreases while the pressure gradient increases during the normalization window. The decreased IFP results in more efficient delivery of conventional drugs to the targeted cancer cells. The outcome of therapies will improve if the antiangiogenic therapies and conventional therapies are carefully scheduled
Systematic study of the symmetry energy coefficient in finite nuclei
The symmetry energy coefficients in finite nuclei have been studied
systematically with a covariant density functional theory (DFT) and compared
with the values calculated using several available mass tables. Due to the
contamination of shell effect, the nuclear symmetry energy coefficients
extracted from the binding energies have large fluctuations around the nuclei
with double magic numbers. The size of this contamination is shown to be
smaller for the nuclei with larger isospin value. After subtracting the shell
effect with the Strutinsky method, the obtained nuclear symmetry energy
coefficients with different isospin values are shown to decrease smoothly with
the mass number and are subsequently fitted to the relation . The resultant volume and
surface coefficients from axially deformed covariant DFT calculations are
and MeV respectively. The ratio is in good
agreement with the value derived from the previous calculations with the
non-relativistic Skyrme energy functionals. The coefficients and
corresponding to several available mass tables are also extracted. It is shown
that there is a strong linear correlation between the volume and surface
coefficients and the ratios are in between for all
the cases.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure
Nonlinear Aggregation-Diffusion Equations: Radial Symmetry and Long Time Asymptotics
We analyze under which conditions equilibration between two competing
effects, repulsion modeled by nonlinear diffusion and attraction modeled by
nonlocal interaction, occurs. This balance leads to continuous compactly
supported radially decreasing equilibrium configurations for all masses. All
stationary states with suitable regularity are shown to be radially symmetric
by means of continuous Steiner symmetrization techniques. Calculus of
variations tools allow us to show the existence of global minimizers among
these equilibria. Finally, in the particular case of Newtonian interaction in
two dimensions they lead to uniqueness of equilibria for any given mass up to
translation and to the convergence of solutions of the associated nonlinear
aggregation-diffusion equations towards this unique equilibrium profile up to
translations as
Enhanced collectivity in neutron-deficient Sn isotopes in energy functional based collective Hamiltonian
The low-lying collective states in Sn isotopes are studied by a
five-dimensional collective Hamiltonian with parameters determined from the
triaxial relativistic mean-field calculations using the PC-PK1 energy density
functional. The systematics for both the excitation energies of states
and values are reproduced rather well, in particular,
the enhanced E2 transitions in the neutron-deficient Sn isotopes with N<66. We
show that the gradual degeneracy of neutron levels 1g7/2 and 2d5/2 around the
Fermi surface leads to the increase of level density and consequently the
enhanced paring correlations from N=66 to 58. It provokes a large quadrupole
shape fluctuation around the spherical shape, and leads to an enhanced
collectivity in the isotopes around N=58.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in Physics Letters
