Results of time evolution analyses of B-decays at Belle
We report results of proper-time evolution analyses of B decays at Belle,
based on a 29.1/fb data sample recorded at the Upsilon (4S) resonance. These
results include measurements of sin2phi_1, the lifetime of B-mesons, and the
mass-difference between two mass eigenstates of the B^0-B^0-bar system
(Delta-m_d). Delta-m_d is measured using three different methods: fully
reconstructed hadronic modes, a fully reconstructed semi-leptonic mode, and a
partially reconstructed D*+ pi- mode.Comment: 13 pages, contributed to the proceedings of the Fifth KEK Topical

Macroscopic thermodynamics of equilibrium characterized by power-law canonical distributions
Macroscopic thermodynamics of equilibrium is constructed for systems obeying
power-law canonical distributions. With this, the connection between
macroscopic thermodynamics and microscopic statistical thermodynamics is
generalized. This is complementary to the Gibbs theorem for the celebrated
exponential canonical distributions of systems in contact with a heat bath.
Thereby, a thermodynamic basis is provided for power-law phenomena ubiquitous
in nature.Comment: 12 page

The CPTPP and Digital Trade: Embracing E-Commerce Opportunities for SMEs in Japan and Canada
One of the most innovative features of the CPTPP is its material on digital trade, especially its chapter on e-commerce which contains a number of provisions aimed at enhancing this vital sector of the economy by eliminating distortive trade barriers such as restrictions on data transfer and data localization requirements. Such provisions should be important to the CPTPP’s two largest parties: Canada and Japan, both of which are highly advanced economies seeking to enhance their digital trade capacity across the Pacific Rim. This paper explores the main features of the CPTPP concerning digital trade from the perspective of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Canada and Japan. Such businesses have a poor track record of e-commerce uptake and may be disadvantaged relative to their larger competitors which enjoy dominance in the online marketplace. Whether or not the CPTPP will assist these businesses while striking the right balance between an open internet and safeguarding of issues such as privacy is a matter of some debate
Macroscopic proof of the Jarzynski-Wojcik fluctuation theorem for heat exchange
In a recent work, Jarzynski and Wojcik (2004 Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 230602)
have shown by using the properties of Hamiltonian dynamics and a statistical
mechanical consideration that, through contact, heat exchange between two
systems initially prepared at different temperatures obeys a fluctuation
theorem. Here, another proof is presented, in which only macroscopic
thermodynamic quantities are employed. The detailed balance condition is found
to play an essential role. As a result, the theorem is found to hold under very
general conditions.Comment: 9 pages, 0 figure
Quantum Statistical Effects on Fusion Dynamics of Heavy-Ions
In order to describe the fusion of two very heavy nuclei at near barrier
energies, a generalized Langevin approach is proposed, which incorporates the
quantum statistical fluctuations in accordance with the fluctuation and
dissipation theorem. It is illustrated that the quantum statistical effects
introduce an enhancement of the formation of compound nucleus, though the
quantum enhancement is somewhat less pronounced as indicated in the previous
calculations.Comment: 17 pages, 6 figure
T Violation in Baryonic B Decays
We study violation in the three-body charmless baryonic decay of \bar
B^0 \ra \Lambda \bar p \pi^+ through the -odd triple product correlation in
the standard model. We find that the violating asymmetry is 10%, which is
accessible to the current B factories at KEK and SLAC, while the CP violating
one 1.1%. We emphasize that this triple product correlation would be the first
measurable direct violating effect predicted in the standard model.Comment: 4 pages, 1 table, parallel talk given at International Conference on
