Accelerating the calibration of stochastic volatility models

This paper compares the performance of three methods for pricing vanilla options in models with known characteristic function: (1) Direct integration, (2) Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), (3) Fractional FFT. The most important application of this comparison is the choice of the fastest method for the calibration of stochastic volatility models, e.g. Heston, Bates, Barndor®-Nielsen-Shephard models or Levy models with stochastic time. Configuraciones epistémicas de la ecuación de segundo grado, en la antigua civilización China

Este artículo tiene como propósito fundamental mostrar el análisis realizado, en torno a las configuraciones epistémicas y el desarrollo histórico de la ecuación de segundo grado dada por la civilización china durante los siglos II a.C. al XIII d.C. El Enfoque Ontosemiótico del Conocimiento e Instrucción Matemática destaca la importancia de analizar la faceta epistemológica, porque permite vislumbrar bajo marcos institucionales específicos las configuraciones epistémicas, que en otras palabras constituyen el uso y relación de situaciones-problema, técnicas, lenguajes, conceptos, proposiciones, procedimientos y argumentos, que dieron origen a dicha ecuación. Metodológicamente se realizó un estudio documental, teniendo en cuenta distintos períodos de China, para llegar a conclusiones de tipo didáctico; entre ellas, el uso de diversos métodos como: fan fa o elemento celeste, bajo argumentos aritméticos y geométricos, que pueden constituir una alternativa educativa al momento de resolver ecuaciones de segundo grado

Primer canto argentino de Raúl González Tuñón: volver a la Patria para "meterse"

El presente trabajo analiza el libro de Raúl González Tuñón publicado en el año 1945, a su regreso al país después de cinco años de residencia en Chile, Primer canto argentino. Este poemario debe ser pensado en el contexto que lo sitúa a caballo de dos acontecimientos centrales que signan la vida política y social del país: el 17 de octubre y las elecciones del año 46, puesto que es este contexto el que reviste de importancia y significación a los poemas. El propósito de este trabajo será desentrañar varios interrogantes que se fundan en las contradicciones, las paradojas y los recortes que presenta la versión de la historia narrada por González Tuñón puesto que, en ese contexto signado por la emergencia del peronismo, los poemas de Tuñón narran una versión triunfante de la historia nacional, recuperando el relato histórico construido por el PCA, que supone la victoria final sobre las fuerzas “nazifascistas”. Al mismo tiempo, el trabajo indaga la imagen de escritor que construye Raúl González Tuñón en este poemario en el cruce de dos linajes –el de los opositores y el de los poetas civiles– y que es posible llamar voz convocante.Fil: Alle, María Fernanda. Radial Growth of Qilian Juniper on the Northeast Tibetan Plateau and Potential Climate Associations

There is controversy regarding the limiting climatic factor for tree radial growth at the alpine treeline on the northeastern Tibetan Plateau. In this study, we collected 594 increment cores from 331 trees, grouped within four altitude belts spanning the range 3550 to 4020 m.a.s.l. on a single hillside. We have developed four equivalent ring-width chronologies and shown that there are no significant differences in their growth-climate responses during 1956 to 2011 or in their longer-term growth patterns during the period AD 1110–2011. The main climate influence on radial growth is shown to be precipitation variability. Missing ring analysis shows that tree radial growth at the uppermost treeline location is more sensitive to climate variation than that at other elevations, and poor tree radial growth is particularly linked to the occurrence of serious drought events. Hence water limitation, rather than temperature stress, plays the pivotal role in controlling the radial growth of Sabina przewalskii Kom. at the treeline in this region. This finding contradicts any generalisation that tree-ring chronologies from high-elevation treeline environments are mostly indicators of temperature changes
