Fiber Based Multiple-Access Optical Frequency Dissemination

We demonstrate a fiber based multiple-access optical frequency dissemination scheme. Without using any additional laser sources, we reproduce the stable disseminated frequency at an arbitrary point of fiber link. Relative frequency stability of 3E10^{-16}/s and 4E10^{-18}/10^4s is obtained. A branching fiber network for highly-precision synchronization of optical frequency is made possible by this method and its applications are discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

On a Localized Riemannian Penrose Inequality

Consider a compact, orientable, three dimensional Riemannian manifold with boundary with nonnegative scalar curvature. Suppose its boundary is the disjoint union of two pieces: the horizon boundary and the outer boundary, where the horizon boundary consists of the unique closed minimal surfaces in the manifold and the outer boundary is metrically a round sphere. We obtain an inequality relating the area of the horizon boundary to the area and the total mean curvature of the outer boundary. Such a manifold may be thought as a region, surrounding the outermost apparent horizons of black holes, in a time-symmetric slice of a space-time in the context of general relativity. The inequality we establish has close ties with the Riemannian Penrose Inequality, proved by Huisken and Ilmanen, and by Bray.Comment: 16 page

Neural network-based intrinsic structure relationship of TC20 titanium alloy for medical applications

    Get PDF
Isothermal constant strain rate compression experiments were carried out on TC20 titanium alloy using a Gleeble- 1500 thermal simulation tester to investigate its high temperature flow behaviour at deformation temperatures of 750 - 900 °C and strain rates of 0,001 - 1 s-1. The results show that the flow stress basically decreases with increasing deformation temperature and increases with increasing strain rate. The correlation coefficients and mean relative errors were 0,998 and 5,06 % respectively, proving that the BP neural network-based intrinsic structure model is effective in predicting the flow stress of the alloy

Critical points of Wang-Yau quasi-local energy

In this paper, we prove the following theorem regarding the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy of a spacelike two-surface in a spacetime: Let Σ\Sigma be a boundary component of some compact, time-symmetric, spacelike hypersurface Ω\Omega in a time-oriented spacetime NN satisfying the dominant energy condition. Suppose the induced metric on Σ\Sigma has positive Gaussian curvature and all boundary components of Ω\Omega have positive mean curvature. Suppose HH0H \le H_0 where HH is the mean curvature of Σ\Sigma in Ω\Omega and H0H_0 is the mean curvature of Σ\Sigma when isometrically embedded in R3R^3. If Ω\Omega is not isometric to a domain in R3R^3, then 1. the Brown-York mass of Σ\Sigma in Ω\Omega is a strict local minimum of the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy of Σ\Sigma, 2. on a small perturbation Σ~\tilde{\Sigma} of Σ\Sigma in NN, there exists a critical point of the Wang-Yau quasi-local energy of Σ~\tilde{\Sigma}.Comment: substantially revised, main theorem replaced, Section 3 adde

Viral video style: A closer look at viral videos on YouTube

Viral videos that gain popularity through the process of Internet sharing are having a profound impact on society. Existing studies on viral videos have only been on small or confidential datasets. We collect by far the largest open benchmark for viral video study called CMU Viral Video Dataset, and share it with researchers from both academia and industry. Having verified existing observations on the dataset, we discover some interesting characteristics of viral videos. Based on our analysis, in the second half of the paper, we propose a model to forecast the future peak day of viral videos. The application of our work is not only important for advertising agencies to plan advertising campaigns and estimate costs, but also for companies to be able to quickly respond to rivals in viral marketing campaigns. The proposed method is unique in that it is the first attempt to incorporate video metadata into the peak day prediction. The empirical results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, with statistically significant differences. Copyright 2014 ACM
