Integrable dispersionless KdV hierarchy with sources

An integrable dispersionless KdV hierarchy with sources (dKdVHWS) is derived. Lax pair equations and bi-Hamiltonian formulation for dKdVHWS are formulated. Hodograph solution for the dispersionless KdV equation with sources (dKdVWS) is obtained via hodograph transformation. Furthermore, the dispersionless Gelfand-Dickey hierarchy with sources (dGDHWS) is presented.Comment: 15 pages, to be published in J. Phys. A: Math. Ge

On determination of the geometric cosmological constant from the OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos

The recent OPERA experiment of superluminal neutrinos has deep consequences in cosmology. In cosmology a fundamental constant is the cosmological constant. From observations one can estimate the effective cosmological constant Λeff\Lambda_{eff} which is the sum of the quantum zero point energy Λdarkenergy\Lambda_{dark energy} and the geometric cosmological constant Λ\Lambda. The OPERA experiment can be applied to determine the geometric cosmological constant Λ\Lambda. It is the first time to distinguish the contributions of Λ\Lambda and Λdarkenergy\Lambda_{dark energy} from each other by experiment. The determination is based on an explanation of the OPERA experiment in the framework of Special Relativity with de Sitter space-time symmetry.Comment: 7 pages, no figure

Performance of Photosensors in the PandaX-I Experiment

We report the long term performance of the photosensors, 143 one-inch R8520-406 and 37 three-inch R11410-MOD photomultipliers from Hamamatsu, in the first phase of the PandaX dual-phase xenon dark matter experiment. This is the first time that a significant number of R11410 photomultiplier tubes were operated in liquid xenon for an extended period, providing important guidance to the future large xenon-based dark matter experiments.Comment: v3 as accepted by JINST with modifications based on reviewers' comment

Technique of quantum state transfer for a double Lambda atomic beam

The transfer technique of quantum states from light to collective atomic excitations in a double Λ\Lambda type system is extended to matter waves in this paper, as a novel scheme towards making a continuous atom laser. The intensity of the output matter waves is found to be determined by the initial relative phase of the two independent coherent probe lights, which may indicate an interesting method for the measurement of initial relative phase of two independent light sources.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure

Landau levels in the case of two degenerate coupled bands: kagome lattice tight-binding spectrum

The spectrum of charged particles hopping on a kagome lattice in a uniform transverse magnetic field shows an unusual set of Landau levels at low field. They are unusual in two respects: the lowest Landau levels are paramagnetic so their energies decrease linearly with increasing field magnitude, and the spacings between the levels are not equal. These features are shown to follow from the degeneracy of the energy bands in zero magnetic field. We give a general discussion of Landau levels in the case of two degenerate bands, and show how the kagome lattice tight-binding model includes one special case of this more general problem. We also discuss the consequences of this for the behavior of the critical temperature of a kagome grid superconducting wire network, which is the experimental system that originally motivated this work.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figure
