    Alliance thérapeutique et engagement : une réflexion sur l’éthique de la prise en charge des patients suicidants en psychothérapie psychanalytique

    International audienceLes questions éthiques liées à la prise en charge des patients suicidants seront ici abordées à partir de deux foyers de contradictions qui apparaissent dans les codes de déontologie : d'une part, liberté individuelle et protection de la personne, et, d'autre part, secret professionnel et secret partagé. La réflexion développée à partir des repères théoriques psychanalytiques s'enrichit des apports de la gestion de crise. Elle est illustrée par l'évocation de situations cliniques tirées d'une pratique dans le domaine de la prévention du suicide. Elle met en évidence que le suicide ne correspond pas chez nos patients à l'exercice d'une liberté et qu'il requiert par conséquent l'exercice d'un devoir d'ingérence de la part du soignant. Les tentatives de suicide sont assez souvent associées à des pathologies dans lesquelles on retrouve une histoire de vie marquée par des ruptures, des abandons, des traumatismes, correspondant à une faillite de l'environnement que la prise en charge ne devra pas reproduire ; cela suppose, entre les termes contradictoires évoqués plus haut, le choix de la protection de la personne et du secret partagé. En ce qui concerne le cadre psychothérapeutique de référence analytique, les contours de la neutralité traditionnelle de l'analyste, dont la valeur reste entière, doivent être redéfinis au profit d'une position contre-transférentielle plus engagée

    On the decay of turbulence in plane Couette flow

    The decay of turbulent and laminar oblique bands in the lower transitional range of plane Couette flow is studied by means of direct numerical simulations of the Navier--Stokes equations. We consider systems that are extended enough for several bands to exist, thanks to mild wall-normal under-resolution considered as a consistent and well-validated modelling strategy. We point out a two-stage process involving the rupture of a band followed by a slow regression of the fragments left. Previous approaches to turbulence decay in wall-bounded flows making use of the chaotic transient paradigm are reinterpreted within a spatiotemporal perspective in terms of large deviations of an underlying stochastic process.Comment: ETC13 Conference Proceedings, 6 pages, 5 figure

    Suppression of the thermal hysteresis in magnetocaloric MnAs thin film by highly charged ion bombardment

    We present the investigation on the modifications of structural and magnetic properties of MnAs thin film epitaxially grown on GaAs induced by slow highly charged ions bombardment under well-controlled conditions. The ion-induced defects facilitate the nucleation of one phase with respect to the other in the first-order magneto-structural MnAs transition with a consequent suppression of thermal hysteresis without any significant perturbation on the other structural and magnetic properties. In particular, the irradiated film keeps the giant magnetocaloric effect at room temperature opening new perspective on magnetic refrigeration technology for everyday use

    Pattern fluctuations in transitional plane Couette flow

    In wide enough systems, plane Couette flow, the flow established between two parallel plates translating in opposite directions, displays alternatively turbulent and laminar oblique bands in a given range of Reynolds numbers R. We show that in periodic domains that contain a few bands, for given values of R and size, the orientation and the wavelength of this pattern can fluctuate in time. A procedure is defined to detect well-oriented episodes and to determine the statistics of their lifetimes. The latter turn out to be distributed according to exponentially decreasing laws. This statistics is interpreted in terms of an activated process described by a Langevin equation whose deterministic part is a standard Landau model for two interacting complex amplitudes whereas the noise arises from the turbulent background.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures.     Nanoscale structuring of tungsten tip yields most coherent electron point-source

    This report demonstrates the most spatially-coherent electron source ever reported. A coherence angle of 14.3 +/- 0.5 degrees was measured, indicating a virtual source size of 1.7 +/-0.6 Angstrom using an extraction voltage of 89.5 V. The nanotips under study were crafted using a spatially-confined, field-assisted nitrogen etch which removes material from the periphery of the tip apex resulting in a sharp, tungsten-nitride stabilized, high-aspect ratio source. The coherence properties are deduced from holographic measurements in a low-energy electron point source microscope with a carbon nanotube bundle as sample. Using the virtual source size and emission current the brightness normalized to 100 kV is found to be 7.9x10^8 A/sr cm^2

    Surface freshwater storage variations in the Orinoco floodplains using multi-satellite observations

    Variations in surface water extent and storage are poorly characterized from regional to global scales. In this study, a multi-satellite approach is proposed to estimate the water stored in the floodplains of the Orinoco Basin at a monthly time-scale using remotely-sensed observations of surface water from the Global Inundation Extent Multi-Satellite (GIEMS) and stages from Envisat radar altimetry. Surface water storage variations over 2003-2007 exhibit large interannual variability and a strong seasonal signal, peaking during summer, and associated with the flood pulse. The volume of surface water storage in the Orinoco Basin was highly correlated with the river discharge at Ciudad Bolivar (R = 0.95), the closest station to the mouth where discharge was estimated, although discharge lagged one month behind storage. The correlation remained high (R = 0.73) after removing seasonal effects. Mean annual variations in surface water volume represented similar to 170 km(3), contributing to similar to 45% of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE)-derived total water storage variations and representing similar to 13% of the total volume of water that flowed out of the Orinoco Basin to the Atlantic Ocean

    Low Energy Electron Point Projection Microscopy of Suspended Graphene, the Ultimate "Microscope Slide"

    Point Projection Microscopy (PPM) is used to image suspended graphene using low-energy electrons (100-200eV). Because of the low energies used, the graphene is neither damaged or contaminated by the electron beam. The transparency of graphene is measured to be 74%, equivalent to electron transmission through a sheet as thick as twice the covalent radius of sp^2-bonded carbon. Also observed is rippling in the structure of the suspended graphene, with a wavelength of approximately 26 nm. The interference of the electron beam due to the diffraction off the edge of a graphene knife edge is observed and used to calculate a virtual source size of 4.7 +/- 0.6 Angstroms for the electron emitter. It is demonstrated that graphene can be used as both anode and substrate in PPM in order to avoid distortions due to strong field gradients around nano-scale objects. Graphene can be used to image objects suspended on the sheet using PPM, and in the future, electron holography

    Stability and turbulent transport in Taylor–Couette flow from analysis of experimental data

    International audienceThis paper provides a prescription for the turbulent viscosity in rotating shear flows for use e.g. in geophysical and astrophysical contexts. This prescription is the result of the detailed analysis of the experimental data obtained in several studies of the transition to turbulence and turbulent transport in Taylor-Couette flow. We first introduce a new set of control parameters, based on dynamical rather than geometrical considerations, so that the analysis applies more naturally to rotating shear flows in general and not only to Taylor-Couette flow. We then investigate the transition thresholds in the supercritical and the subcritical regime in order to extract their general dependencies on the control parameters. The inspection of the mean profiles provides us with some general hints on the mean to laminar shear ratio. Then the examination of the torque data allows us to propose a decomposition of the torque dependence on the control parameters in two terms, one completely given by measurements in the case where the outer cylinder is at rest, the other one being a universal function provided here from experimental fits. As a result, we obtain a general expression for the turbulent viscosity and compare it to existing prescription in the literature. Finally, throughout all the paper we discuss the influence of additional effects such as stratification or magnetic fields
