Observation of Terahertz Radiation via the Two-Color Laser Scheme with Uncommon Frequency Ratios

In the widely-studied two-color laser scheme for terahertz (THz) radiation from a gas, the frequency ratio of the two lasers is usually fixed at ω2/ω1=\omega_2/\omega_1=1:2. We investigate THz generation with uncommon frequency ratios. Our experiments show, for the first time, efficient THz generation with new ratios of ω2/ω1=\omega_2/\omega_1=1:4 and 2:3. We observe that the THz polarization can be adjusted by rotating the longer-wavelength laser polarization and the polarization adjustment becomes inefficient by rotating the other laser polarization; the THz energy shows similar scaling laws with different frequency ratios. These observations are inconsistent with multi-wave mixing theory, but support the gas-ionization model. This study pushes the development of the two-color scheme and provides a new dimension to explore the long-standing problem of the THz generation mechanism.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

A Monte Carlo Study on the Dynamical Fluctuations Inside Quark and Antiquark Jets

    Get PDF
The dynamical fluctuations inside the quark and antiquark jets are studied using Monte Carlo method. Quark and antiquark jets are identified from the 2-jet events in e+e- collisions at 91.2 GeV by checking them at parton level. It is found that transition point exists inside both of these two kinds of jets. At this point the jets are circular in the transverse plane with respect to the property of dynamical fluctuations. The results are consistent with the fact that the third jet (gluon jet) was historically first discovered in e+e- collisions in the energy region 17-30 GeV.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figure

High-Pressure Induced Structural Phase Transition in CaCrO4: Evidence from Raman Scattering Studies

Raman spectroscopic studies have been carried out on CaCrO4 under pressure up to 26GPa at ambient temperature. The Raman spectra showed CaCrO4 experienced a continuous structural phase transition started at near 6GPa, and finished at about 10GPa. It is found that the high-pressure phase could be quenched to ambient conditions. Pressure dependence of the Raman peaks suggested there existed four pressure regions related to different structural characters. We discussed these characters and inferred that the nonreversible structural transition in CaCrO4, most likely was from a zircon-type (I41/amd) ambient phase to a scheelite-type high pressure structure (I41/a).Comment: submitte
